Breast milk jewellery- cute or wierd?!

Okay.... so I can't decide if this is cute or WIERD.

But..... I am currently bf and drawing to the end of the journey- maybe another month or 2. I feel really sad about giving up but I know it's time.

I saw some breast milk jewellery where they use resin to make a pearl looking stone out of breast milk.

I thought maybe this would be a cute keepsake... if not to wear then maybe just a little heart shaped one to keep in a special box.

Thoughts on this? Cute? wierd?

Also- do you know of any other ideas for breastfeeding keepsakes/ souvenirs?

Weird. I really don’t get it.

It’s like putting toenail clippings or discharge in a necklace. 🤢

Really?

Have you ever nourished another human being with your toenail clippings or discharge?

Breastmilk isn't human waste.

My first breastfeeding journey was really difficult. My husband bought me a beautiful breastmilk necklace as a way of saying well done for getting through it. It means a lot to me.

My friend has a breastmilk ring from her experience pumping for her premature baby who spent a traumatic time in icu and couldn't feed properly. I imagine that ring means the world to her too.

Everyone saying it's weird can go swivel on it quite frankly. Who the hell are you to judge what's meaningful to others? Shame on you all and OP too for shitting on others, you have no idea what people have been through.

People are sharing their opinions, just as you shared yours. All valid.

DRS1970 · 10/01/2023 09:29

I think it is weird. But if it makes you happy, and gives you good memories, then who cares.

Posters that have been asked to share their opinions?

Anyway I don’t want to see a hardened lump of breastmilk dangling from somebody’s neck, if that makes me the weirdo then 🤷🏼‍♀️

yorkshirepudsx · 10/01/2023 09:33

I think it's cute, a lot of random stuff we buy is made from mega weird stuff 🤷‍♀️

It would be personal to you, and have sentimental value, other people may thing it's disgusting but I can understand why people like it. X

Bagsundermyeyestoday · 10/01/2023 09:35

Oh so weird, and gross. But also kinda cool. I'd almost consider it myself.

yorkshirepudsx · 10/01/2023 09:35

Some people keep their child's umbilical cord in a box for years, some people keep the first pregnancy test they took, and so on

I'd of 100% had jewellery made from my breast milk if I didn't have issues making my own milk 🙈

Suziesz · 10/01/2023 09:37

belimoo · 10/01/2023 09:15

I find it so strange that people think breast milk is gross. How can the thing that their baby drinks be so gross? I bet most of them drink cows milk too. If you've ever been in a milking parlour you'd think that was a lot more gross.

It’s not that breast milk is gross itself, it’s gross to put it in jewellery imo.
The comparison to dairy milk is stupid and irrelevant- when was the last time you seen someone put cows milk or oat milk in a ring?

yorkshirepudsx · 10/01/2023 09:37

Bosk · 10/01/2023 05:41

Absolutely revolting.

As for 'breastfeeding souvenirs', surely a well nourished infant is sufficient?

Like with keeping umbilical cords - surely seeing your child's bellybutton is enough?? 🤷‍♀️ but people still keep them lol

Each to their own I say, all I kept was my little ones first babygrow 🥰

WhenDovesFly · 10/01/2023 09:38

I wouldn't use any other bodily secretion to make jewellery, so why would I use breast milk? Very weird IMO. Just as odd as those who make jewellery from the teeth of deceased loved ones.

BlueDiamondGlow · 10/01/2023 09:38

It's not something I would choose myself but I wouldn't judge someone for it. Shame on the judgemental comments. Breastfeeding means a lot to some mothers - I can understand why they want to celebrate it.

Breastmilk isn't human waste.

It felt just the same as discharge to me when it was free leaking without my control through feeds. Guess what, people don’t have to feel the same as you.
Not everyone feels breast milk is super magical even if they have breastfed.

Whattowearintheoffice · 10/01/2023 09:39

Gosh, people’s reactions are so strong to this suggestion. It’s not for me (I’ve breastfeed two children for extended time), but I can’t see the issue with someone wanting to mark something important to them. And breast milk isn’t gross - I cannot understand the negative visceral reactions to something that nourishes and comforts a baby.

Floomobal · 10/01/2023 09:40

I think it’s a lovely idea. I wasn’t sure at first, but I follow a page on Instagram that does beautiful breast milk jewellery. Will definitely get something made

yorkshirepudsx · 10/01/2023 09:40

Some of you would have heart attacks if you saw some of the jewellery at some art exhibitions,
I've seen some made from real human teeth, hair, semen, period blood, and so on - now that freaks me out, I find it intriguing, but weird haha.

I like the breast milk ones though I think it's sentimental. X

sawthewholeofthemoon · 10/01/2023 09:43

Loved feeding and so glad I was able to.

But jewellery IMO - very weird.

No, that’s art though, not something somebody is wearing - I remember going to see a semen exhibition as a teen and not fainting 😉

But come on, this is odd and a bit narcissistic no matter how everyone tries to spin it.

Sometimes I wonder if they’re actually using the breastmilk or just saying they are and using cows milk or white plastic because let’s face it who would know!

I was thinking the same, I mean how would anyone know it was their breast milk and not Molly’s from across the road, or a bit of Gold Top.

yorkshirepudsx · 10/01/2023 09:50

I don't think it's narcissistic though. At all.

Mamaneedsadrink · 10/01/2023 09:52

I thought weird when I read this but I just googled, and it's actually quite lovely. Albeit in a weird way! I wonder if I have any left as I'm quite tempted!! The jewellery with the hair I find a bit creepy though.

WandaWonder · 10/01/2023 09:57

I have no comment on others doing it but I didn't keep my placenta or pregnancy stick I weed on so no I didn't keep any other bodily fluid

ButItHasCheese · 10/01/2023 10:02

Each to their own, I think it's a bid odd being attached to bodily fluids (I can see where you're coming from though, I'm in the same place now).

I had a friend gift me some breast milk soap a while ago, which I can't get my head around

WhereTheFuckIsMyFuckingCoat · 10/01/2023 10:03

@Suziesz

If breastmilk felt the same for you as discharge, then I hope you sought the help of a medical professional. There’s a world of difference between bodily waste, and a substance that is specifically made to nourish another human being.

Obviously everyone feels differently, which is why people, like myself, who lost their ability to breastfeed due to cancer, might view it as a bit ‘magical’, and shouldn’t be made to feel disgusting for wanting to preserve it. If it’s not something that interests you, then fair enough. But maybe have an iota of understanding for the people who do want to commemorate it how they see fit, and don’t degrade it by comparing it to human waste like toenails or discharge. (Along with the 🤢 emoji).

Oh and btw, per my previous post, I didn't.

Whatsfordinnerglutenfree · 10/01/2023 10:08

Think about the child when they grow up. No teenager wants to be reminded that they were breastfed. If you do get any photos or memorabilia please keep them to yourself.
