@DressingGown87 pull up nappies!!!! Oh my god why haven't I thought of that before!

Glooorb · 27/06/2021 14:19

Oh my goddddd the sleeping is driving me insane. Oscar doesn't sleep during the day anymore.

I put him down into his cot drowsy and he spends his time rolling over and crawling about. When he gets bored he will just scream and cry in the cot.

I try rocking him to sleep and he spends literally every moment arching his back trying to squirm out of my arms.

Then of course he inevitably gets overtired and everyone is super grumpy.

At my wits end, help.

Glooorb · 27/06/2021 14:21

And echoing everyone's thoughts on nappy changing. It's a battle EVERY SINGLE TIME. I feel really bad sort of forcing him to lie down (and I have to do this quite forcefully...) and he gets SO UPSET that he can't roll over.

Feels like I'm sort of torturing him or something by restraining him...

Not been on here for a while. Sending everyone hugs for the sleepless nights, it's draining🙈 I don't think the heat helps either.
We've opted with pull up nappies, just because it's like wresting a crocodile right now and we've given her everything to hold and distract her while changing but it's impossible 🙈
We can now say mum and dad now and we're trying to crawl. It's going too fast 😭

DressingGown87 · 27/06/2021 17:11

I’m at breaking point… recovered from norovirus. Then ended up in hospital with DD and severe tonsiltius, so she can’t eat or drink anything 😭 If sleep wasn’t broken enough before it is now.

@Glooorb we was having the same problem, just wants to explore and not sleep. I don’t know what to suggest, as if your anything like me you’ve tried it all. Breath… It’s a phase it will pass… and repeat.

Fletcher567 · 27/06/2021 18:08

Q@Glooorb getting mine to sleep atm is making me lose it. He screams and throws tantrums but is clearly so tired so we have to persist in trying to get him to sleep as he can’t handle being awake either. For the first time since he’s been born, I’m having to just put him in the cot and have a breather because I’m really losing my patience and getting so worked up with it all and the behaviour and crappy sleep right now.

@DressingGown87 so sorry to hear how rough you’ve had it recently…how are you feeling now?

Glooorb · 27/06/2021 19:23

@DressingGown87 oh no so sorry to hear about Paige! How is she now? Must be so worrying and I guess not sleeping suddenly seems a walk in the park and least of your worries, when you are dealing with being in hospital...

Somewhat reassuring to hear that other babies are showing the same behaviours around changing nappies and sleeping. Nice to have solidarity 💪🏻 We can get through this!

DressingGown87 · 27/06/2021 21:20

@Glooorb @fletcher567 thank you. hopefully can be discharged tomorrow, now she has some fluids in her, and antibiotics are working. She was already on a waiting list for ENT due to her tonsils being large. She will only sleep on me sat up. 😴

I agree it’s reassuring that it seems to be a common theme (and DD isn’t the only baby driving their mother to despair ). We just need to remember it’s a phase, and deep breath. So much going on in their tiny minds at the moment, and so many things to explore and do.

Just sharing this magic song in case it will help babies smile 🙂 Apparently specifically written to make babies happy! Mine loves it.

Hey everyone, nice to hear how everyone is getting on (aka the same as me!)

@DressingGown87 So sorry Paige is going through the wars, hoping she pulls through soon 🙏🏾

My DS is just over 9 months old now, and I can wholeheartedly say that month 8 was the biggest pile of doo-doo ever!! Teething, sleep regression, a virus, food refusal, constant (and I mean CONSTANT) whingeing, crying when I leave the room - we have had it all. I have felt at my wits end more times than I can count.

With regards to feeding, he's still breastfed and seems to be feeding all the bloody time still, day and night. That plus the constant making of food, watching it be flung, doing the clearup (and repeating 3 times a day) - my body is feeling battered!

Sending you all solidarity...month 8 was a shitter...!

Sls668 · 28/06/2021 02:39

You’re all scaring me now, my LO is only 7.5 months and is an absolute pleasure at the moment, is she going to turn into Satan at 8 months?! Surely nothing can be as bad as 4 months??!

@DressingGown87 sorry to hear you and Paige have both been unwell, I hope you feel better soon!

@KitKatKit God, how draining is it having to think of and prepare 3 meals a day? And the meals seem to close together! She finishes eating one meal, has a snooze then it’s nearly time to start thinking about the next! She eats really well too so I can imagine it’s twice as bad when they don’t!

Fletcher567 · 28/06/2021 10:27

@DressingGown87 hoping things get back to normal for you as soon as possible!
@KitKatKit can you confirm it was just a phase then haha? Have things improved?? This has been the worst by far!!
@Sls668 omg I feel exactly the same re meals, I feel like it’s just a continuous cycle of milk and feeding and napping

KitKatKit · 28/06/2021 19:50

@Sls668 Yep, the daily "what should I feed you today" is mind bending, and it feels like it's a food/boob/sleep merry go round most of the time Grin

@Fletcher567 We've definitely had a better few days (touch wood!) I am hoping to take DS to a baby sensory class soon so things must be slightly better, as I wouldn't have even entertained the idea a few weeks ago 😉

DS is at the cusp of crawling (he can go backwards and sit up/down himself, just not forwards!), and I think it's the frustration of not being able to do that yet which has exacerbated a lot of his moodiness. Hoping that once he can actually crawl forwards he'll feel a bit more liberated, and hopefully be a happier baby!

juanita88 · 05/07/2021 10:31

Hi ladies I have an October born baby and just wondered, do your babies nap for longer than half an hour in the crib and if so when did they start doing that? Mine will only do half an hour and then I have to do the rest in my arms. I don’t know if it is a developmental thing or there is something wrong with his routine?

Fletcher567 · 05/07/2021 11:18

@juanita88 varies tbh…some days mines done 30 minutes and others two hours… if he wakes up I don’t really bother trying to get him back to sleep anymore, I’ll just let him have a little short nap later if he needs it depending on the time.

Sls668 · 05/07/2021 11:19

@juanita88 it’s such a fight to get my LO to sleep in her own cot so usually I get her to sleep in me and then once she’s settled I just pop her down on the bed/sofa/her bed then get on with what I’m doing. She often stirs at the 30 or 45 minute mark and if I’m quick to respond I can often get her back off. The morning nap is much easier to do this with, often the afternoon nap ends up only being 45 minutes

BlueLilyLilyBlue · 05/07/2021 13:46

@juanita88 mine was a terror for 30 minute exactly naps until about 6.5 months. Same as you he would only sleep longer if it was on me. I started leaving him in his cot for an hour whether he was awake or not and he rolled around in there a bit. Obviously I took him out if he was crying. He then started to sleep longer - no idea whether leaving him there helped or whether he was just developmentally "ready" for it. Now he normally sleeps about 1.5 hours twice a day and I often see him wake and go back to sleep around 30/40 minutes in. Worth a shot though?

DressingGown87 · 05/07/2021 14:20

@juanita88 my DD was/is the same. Some naps have increased so could be an hour, 30mins, 45mins, 2hours, or yesterday it was 3! It really is a game of nap roulette. I have tried leaving her in the cot etc, if she wakes before the hour mark, and sometimes she will go back down, other times she won’t. I just work the next nap or bedtime around that.

Finally think DD is getting better. She went unresponsive on Wednesday, and it was one of the most scariest experiences of my life. Her temperature was sky high and she was so dehydrated. She’s fighting off 6 infections, and her little body was struggling.

Does anyone have a tummy sleeper?

Fletcher567 · 05/07/2021 14:48

@DressingGown87 oh dear how scary…there is nothing worse than seeing your little one suffering, especially so badly…I hope she gets better soon! I have a tummy sleeper and he sleeps much better when he is in that position as well!

Sls668 · 05/07/2021 16:27

@DressingGown87 poor Paige, there seems to be so much going around at the moment!

Is anybody else starting to dread the thought of going back to work? I’m lucky in that I work in a nursery and she will be in the building with me, I trust the girls so am not worried about her care or anything but I just really don’t want to have to share her with others and hate thought of our time together coming to an end. It’s making me so sad (I think I’m a little hormonal today which isn’t helping!)

DressingGown87 · 05/07/2021 16:45

@Fletcher567 thank you. She seems a lot better this week. But still not my loud and active little baby. Yes she seems to sleep better on her front at the minute. I was rolling her back as she was getting upset, and waking when she rolled. But it’s making me on edge. I suppose we all have our comfy spots.

@Sls668 thank you. I know, there are so many coughs and colds doing the rounds. The hospital said bronchitis is also going around at the minute in under 2s locally. Our local hospital is so full. Think GPS not seeing patients isn’t helping either.

I’m WFH now, but nervous about going back more days In September, office based. Like you it’s not the childcare issue as she loves her childminder, but I will miss having loads of time with her, and doing things. It makes me sad too. Just feel like weekends alone won’t be much time, especially when you have all life admin and housework to do then too. Will you be back FT?

GhostWorld · 05/07/2021 18:31

Aw poor Paige, hope she feels better soon @DressingGown87

I know it changes depending on your area but have any of you seen a health visitor recently or had any contact with them?

@sls668 I'm excited to go back to work but I'm also worried about how much I'll miss him! Also if his bed time is 6.30/7 then ill pick him up, feed him and then its bath and bed, I'm already sad about how little time we'll have together. I'm lucky that for the first few months I'm able to take annual leave 1 day a week so I'll be able to sort some of the house work and chores so that we've got a bit of weekend free but yes in general I think its all going to be challenging!

Strawberries4days · 05/07/2021 21:02

@DressingGown87 sending hugs, hope Paige gets better! That must have been such a scary time for you, I couldn't imagine it. Nothing worse than seeing your LO being ill 💐

@GhostWorld we had our 8 month check up with the HV. Mostly for her measurements and being weighed plus questions about development like sitting up and rolling etc. The last time I seen my HV was when DD was 5 months old but I asked her to come up because I was worried about her weight after two weeks of being ill. But if she didn't turn up then it would have been Xmas eve the last time I seen HV🙈 her next visit won't be until DD is 13 months

How is everybody with the weaning? I'm about to start lunches this week but I still feel a bit lost with timing and what to feed her. I'm not the best cook so when people say "they let their babies have spag bol" I automatically think the jar sauces and think how can a baby have that😂🙈 what would you do for lunches? She's just started finger food and can eat like cream cheese on toast but struggles with picking up fruit so we just use the nuby net 🤷🏼‍♀️ hate doing teas cause I have no idea and I'm so limited with shops beside me if I don't have what I need!

Fletcher567 · 05/07/2021 21:28

@Sls668 is it bad I’m looking forward to going back to work? I’m only back three days a week but I feel like a bit of my own routine and some adult conversation will do me good! I think I will definitely miss my days with my little man though!!

@Strawberries4days I’ve found myself to be quite relaxed with weaning and thankfully DS has taken to food well…it’s hit and miss whether he has the same as us because I don’t understand how I can feed my baby a curry or chilli con carne for example and don’t really want to compromise on things being spicy etc for us so I always just have a few pouches in the fridge to save cooking two meals or have a few things in the freezer from batch cooking. With lunches, we’ve found quesadillas a massive hit (basically a tortilla wrap folded over with whatever filling under the panini machine for a few minutes and cut into fingers), cucumber sticks, melty puffs and humus, omelette cut into lengths, pasta in a quick sauce…whatever really and usually a yoghurt after lunch. I find lunch time to be like a little buffet for him usually lol

Sls668 · 05/07/2021 22:47

@DressingGown87 officially I’ll be 4 long days but we’ve agreed to one of my days being a Friday so that I can finish early if it’s quiet so hopefully that means some weeks I’ll be 3.5 days.

@Strawberries4days my LO eats like a horse 🙈 I don’t actually know where she puts it all. Generally we just give her what we have, she’s has had some spicy stuff and lived them too! Usually we get hello fresh 3 days a week and they’re usually fine for her to eat so she often has that for tea with us if I make it early enough or we save her some for lunch the next day. Sometimes we do ‘picky’ lunches too like a half a crumpet, some veg sticks, a bit of fruit and cheese, just random stuff! It can be really hard to think of 3 meals a day though (well I should say 2 as breakfast is usually the same). I seem to end up giving too much pasta, tuna, bread or beans so try to limit them all to twice a week for tuna and beans, a bit more for pasta and bread. We also do tortilla pizzas which are very similar to @Fletcher567’s quesadillas - they’re so nice!
