Agreed the heat is a nightmare! Monitor says 32 degrees in our room! Mine is in a vest, we've got a fan on with a frozen water bottle in front of it but it doesn't feel like it's doing much. I've got a wet muslin that I occasionally dab him with and an ice pack that I cool the bed with before he goes down. He fell asleep in his high chair today which has never happened, it's the first time he's fallen asleep somewhere other than someone's arms!! I should be excited but instead I'm just worried he's dehydrated

Glooorb · 23/07/2021 14:14

@GhostWorld haha I wish my Oscar will be so chilled and relaxed in the high chair. He is a monster at the moment. all he wants is to stand up on the foot rest and now he is also getting his foot on the seat 🤯

Meal time is so frustrating- for lunch, we just had a whole lentil croquette squashed in hand, slammed repeatedly on the high chair tray and then wiped completely onto the floor. It's really difficult not to feel frustrated. I don't know whether my stern "no" is doing anything as he just smiles when I say no. And then I want to smile back so I don't know what to do to express the fact that throwing food and wiping it onto the floor is not a good thing to do!

GhostWorld · 25/07/2021 08:10

@Gloorb having the same dilemma with the word no, my LO has started biting, he bits my shoulders and I've got loads of little bruises all over. I think he's just discovered his teeth and how they feel when he bites as no other signs of teething. I've tried telling him no and also doing a high pitched little yelp but either way he just laughs ha.. I'm a bit worried it's going to carry on

How’s everyone getting on with food? We were doing really well, had started on purées but soon ditched them in favour of finger foods for ease and because DS enjoyed feeding himself… but it feels like we’ve hit a wall now the novelty of food has worn off and he is stronger minded…he loves certain things (toast, watermelon, strawberries and cucumber mainly) and it’s becoming a struggle to get much else down him. I obviously want to keep offering him a variety but feel like he’s not feeding enough now, wondering whether to feed him some mashed foods again??

SamK93 · 27/07/2021 14:21

@Fletcher567 we have days like this too. Noah will be 10 months old next Sunday but he hates finger foods, down right refuses it, he mashes it up in his hand and throws it on the floor. All babies are different as my 6 year old at this age loved finger food and we did BLW. Noah is the total opposite, the only way we can get food in him is if I spoon feed him. He has been eating foods that we eat, at the beginning it was puréed now it's just a slightly mashed up version. As long as they're fed that's the main thing. I hate the pressure that mums are put under to BLW. Fed is best!

Fletcher567 · 27/07/2021 14:26

@SamK93 completely agree! Everything nowadays seems to be about creating these independent non-fussy eaters if you do BLW but I feel like it’s giving him the choice to be more fussy even at this age and wasting my time in making baby safe finger foods! I think I might resort back to some mush along side a couple of finger foods!!

DressingGown87 · 27/07/2021 14:31

@Fletcher567 we are still not there. We have moments where I think yes we are getting somewhere and then take 10steps back. Favorite finger foods are same as your little one. We are still on finger nail sizes, as she can’t manage larger chucks (over active gag reflex’s and reflux). Awaiting second consultation for her tonsils to be removed too 😩 she hates the spoon too. I would give a mixture of BLW and spoon if you want. Agree with @SamK93 fed is best, and if that’s a mixture, so be it.

Currently watching DD trash the lounge… there doesn’t seem to be any stopping her now. Unless she is distracted by doing a jigsaw or she’s building / stacking.

BlueLilyLilyBlue · 27/07/2021 15:16

@Fletcher567 Mixed! Direct opposite to @SamK93 my DS will not entertain spoon feeding at all. He will put everything in his mouth though, food or not. But I'm not convinced much actually goes in his stomach and a lot of it goes on the floor or in his lap Hmm He tends to have more of an issue with dry textures - anything bready, muffiny etc. he is just not that keen on. I end up giving him a range of stuff and he eats bits of everything. The one thing he will always eat is pasta. So I've been making him a loooot of creamy cheesy pasta to get some calories in him as he's only having about 20oz of milk and only 25th centile. He's never been a big eater though.

GhostWorld · 28/07/2021 12:18

So mine definitely prefers holding stuff to purees but I do give him pouches, it's not allowed (according to the pqcket) but I gently squeeze it into his mouth which he likes, he will suck all the food out if its fruit based.

Anyone got any games you like to play? I want to do some messy play stuff but the edible sand is a no go because he will just eat it all and I did paint under plastic for him to squidge but he just tore the plastic straight away haha. He's getting so bored of his toys and therefore becoming quite naughty

Fletcher567 · 28/07/2021 12:47

@GhostWorld all mine wants to do atm is stand, he crawls round to different pieces of furniture or anything he can reach and stands up so I just have to follow him round making sure he doesn’t bang his head where there’s any corners! He got up three stairs this morning as well so gonna have to look at a stair gate! Does yours prefer normal objects to toys? Mine loves anything but his toys so I tend to just give him a spatula or my purse or something like that if I need to do something haha keeps him quiet for ages

DressingGown87 · 28/07/2021 20:58

@GhostWorld we also squeeze and don’t spoon. Only way. Paige loves stacking at the minute, cups, blocks, rings. And doing the wooden jigsaws. With messy play, we do water in the tuff tray, bottles filled with rice, angel delight, spaghetti, ball pit balls, depending on how messy. We also go soft play once a week (but a toddler one) so she can climb and explore safely. The Aqua Mats are great too. Or we empty the pans out the cupboard and make noise 😂 but they do get board so quickly, and then want to terrorize something else. Was it you that had started water babies a few months ago?

Ladies the thread is nearly at maximum posts 😬

Glooorb · 19/08/2021 19:21

Hi ladies! It's been a while, how is everyone and their LO doing? Oscar is now crawling at speed, and pulling himself up. Not walking yet. He has taken to pointing as well as shaking his head (he doesn't understand it means no though!)

He goes off to nursery next Monday and I am feeling it... I have also starting ramping up for work. It feels like the end of the chapter of early motherhood - even though there were so many challenges, but I'm feeling a bit sad about it 😢

Anyone else feel the same?

krissy12 · 19/08/2021 20:33

@Glooorb we are the same speedy crawling and standing but no walking. we also have some head shaking.

back at work October and also dreading it

Fletcher567 · 19/08/2021 20:52

Lots of crawling and cruising and standing for a few seconds unaided but no walking! How long do we think it takes usually, I’m forever having to hold his hands and walk round otherwise he has real tantrums!! Back at work in two weeks and he will start nursery two days and MIL another day. Scared to let my little lockdown baby out on his own haha

GhostWorld · 01/09/2021 09:08

Hi ladies how are you all? My LO seems to learn a skill and then never do it again, including standing unaided, sticking his tongue out, clapping and a few others. Once he's mastered them he doesn't need to bother again! He got 6 teeth basically all at once really early and has been teething for what feels like months now, especially in the night when he clamps his mouth shut and moans, its really difficult because he's half asleep so I don't want to wake him up to give calpol. He's doing really well with eating now, in fact I'm a bit worried about overfeeding as he seems to be a bottomless pit haha, he's already 91-98th %ile. Can you believe we're getting close to 1year!! I think we're going to get him either a busy board or a montessori helping step thing for the kitchen, what presents are you doing? A

Laur89 · 01/09/2021 11:49

@GhostWorld love the idea of a busy board, which ones are you looking at? Or are you making it? X

GhostWorld · 06/09/2021 20:35

@laur89 sorry I thought I replied earlier, no unfortunately not talented enough to make one, I've seen some on Etsy that I would probably go for. I like the personalised ones and the reviews often say the child plays with it regularly/until they're quite a bit older which is reassuring!

Glooorb · 06/09/2021 21:13

@GhostWorld my LO is loving clapping! He did a few claps maybe a month ago and we thought woohoo! But then he didn't do it again until last week and now he is doing it when we say "clap" so he understands what that means, which is amazing! He is also pointing at everything - though whether he understands what he is pointing at is another matter.

With babbling I also find that sometimes he goes through phases where he is very chatty and then goes silent for a few weeks.

In terms of toys I splurged on a lovevery subscription and am waiting on my first play kit - quite excited! I hope he plays with it haha. They have a busy board type play items in one of the older play kits.

GhostWorld · 10/09/2021 08:57

@Glooorb wow the lovevery subscription looks so lovely! I think its hit and miss whether they play with stuff straight away but might go back to it, some of the toys he was brought a couple of months ago are now his favourites.
Over the last couple of days mine has learnt to point to his nose or his head when asked, which in turns means he's started sticking his fingers up his own nose and up anyone else's nose haha

DressingGown87 · 10/09/2021 09:24

Hey! Can’t believe are near the one year marker! Also this thread is nearly full?

Paige is going well, can say a few words with associations now. Ball, car, dog and babbles a lot of yes, no, mama etc. Starting to confidently take a few steps, but is in to everything and anything. She loves childcare apart from meal times. One thing which really irritates me is teeth grinding? Anyone else’s little one do this?

The one thing we are struggling with is food. Still on absolutely nothing! We are under feeding consultants now, as test have shown she is unable to fully digest the food. This is either caused by the valve in the stomach not working correctly or due to imbalance in the enzymes. So if she does eat, it causes pain, and the older she gets the more she is understand the association, and therefore won’t refuses the food. Unless she thinks it’s a game (ie nursery) she feels the structured meal times is play, so gets upset when everyone is given food except her.

@GhostWorld aww we sometimes get masters at a skill then it’s gone. It’s like she will just move her focus. Hope the teething gets better soon. I’m getting Paige a lock box and a busy board too. Then a dolls pram, jigsaws, books, balls, for Christmas. Love the finger up the nose, they love exploring. Paiges favourite place is too put them in her ears!

@Glooorb aww I looked at that subscription it’s looked really good! And lots which they can use for years and years. Love that everything gets a round of applause, with clapping! Haha I know the finger pointing is so funny.

SamK93 · 22/09/2021 08:51

@DressingGown87 Paige sounds like she's doing brilliantly! The not eating must be so upsetting for you, has there been any change? Does she like her milk?

I can't believe Noah will be one in 16 days! Up until the other week, he wasn't crawling, pulling up, or had any teeth. He just used to happily sit and play and shuffle on his bum a little. Last week, he started pulling up on on the furniture, the next day he started crawling, and the day after that I saw two little teeth poke through! I waited soo long for any of those and he did everything together at 11 months, he's now trying to stand up from sitting. It's all happened so quickly! Just goes to show how different each baby is and we shouldn't ever compare. Honestly the comments I've had made over the last 6/7 months that he wasn't doing any of those things.

He also hates feeding himself, the only way he eats is if I spoon feed him which I'm fine about as long as he's eating. He feeds himself a few snacks here and there but if I put food on his tray in the high chair he is not interested at all. I will keep trying and maybe one day he will just start eating.

@DressingGown87 do you think we should set up a thread? As soon enough the babies won't be babies any more and will be starting toddlerhood and some of us may need each others support?
