@GhostWorld thank you. Regarding HV we’ve seen ours quite a bit as she need weighing for her reflux medication once a month. But I was shocked to receive the 12month development questionnaire the other week.

@Strawberries4days thank you, it took about 24hours for the realisation of what had happened to kick in. But luckily she is ok, just unlucky to catch everything at once. With weaning, we are still hit and miss, even more so now. Lunches I was doing spreads, omlettes (until egg allergy), cucumber and picky bits like ham cut up, chicken, toasties, jacket potato, fruit, dairy free yoghurt. Due to several issues, most food is cut into finger nail sized portions. I’m like you, not a fan of cooking, and never seem to have what I need!

Strawberries4days · 06/07/2021 00:10

@Fletcher567 the quesadillas sounds really good! Would never thought of trying that. No I'm the same as you, I will miss DD but can't wait to get back to work, maybe it's due to being off for about a year and a half! The boredom hits lol

@Sls668 picky lunches sound like a winner to me. I tried her with a cucumber once and she just poked at it. Might be the wet texture😂

@DressingGown87 thank goodness, just a shame what's happened. Hope you're doing ok too and sleep is getting better💐 awww she's doing well with food! Jacket potato sounds good too, I always think she wouldn't be able to eat but forget how strong her gums are. Cooking is a pain, can't find it or just don't want to do it😂

GhostWorld · 06/07/2021 11:03

For meals I'll usually do the following:

Breakfast: either wetabix or porridge (with oat milk or cows milk) and fruit (usually melon, orange, strawberry or mango as I find they last longest once already sliced)

Lunch: pasta or toast or potato or omelets with cheese and some veg (usually broccoli, avocado, carrot, cucumber or tomatoes (I know that's a fruit ha))

Dinner: if we're having something he can eat then that but if not a pouch and some rusk!

Are anyone's little ones crawling/when did they start?

krissy12 · 09/07/2021 08:43

@Laur89 mine is 8 and a half months and just about crawling he's been trying desperately for weeks poor thing

SamK93 · 09/07/2021 08:45

@Laur89 Noah turned 9 months yesterday, no signs of crawling at all yet, he just likes to sit and play. Hasn't ever fully rolled over either, just rolls on to his sides. I'm not worried at all from experience with my other two crawling isn't a development milestone and some babies skip it all together and go straight to walking. Im actually quite glad and enjoying the fact for as long as I can that I can put him somewhere and he will still be there.

Fletcher567 · 09/07/2021 09:09

@Laur89 mine started last week just as he turned 8 months…he doesn’t do it for long though, just to get from one toy (remote) to another

krissy12 · 12/07/2021 17:50

is anyone else having a battle with food. my lb used to be like a bin would eat anything now unless it's a melty stick banana or a yogurt everything is a battle and most of the time he wins and hardly eats anything. I've had to put his milk back up

mumumum79 · 12/07/2021 17:55

@krissy12 yes! This is us too. I'm so worried. He also gags and won't eat any finger foods. Puts it in his mouth and then pushes it out. How worried should we be? I see in my mum group babies eating everything, transitioning off purées and having the ability to chew or have lumpy food. We are nowhere near that

mumumum79 · 12/07/2021 17:57

@Laur89 just catching up on the thread! Our is 9 months (oct 8) started crawling back in May. Now he pulls himself up and cruises along furniture. Just starting to balance himself with a walker but is too scared to take his own steps with a walker

krissy12 · 12/07/2021 18:01

@mumumum79 we were managing well with foods before. he wouldn't take purees so went straight onto lumpier food and finger foods but now he's just not interested massive meltdown if you attempt to feed him anything.

but I wouldn't worry too much about your LO not transitioning from purees yet I think some babies just take a bit more time to get used to the different textures

Glooorb · 15/07/2021 11:34

Hi ladies I just wanted to say how much I appreciate this thread and group of mums. I always feel so reassured to read that other mums are facing the same challenges - makes me feel less alone. Oscar is going to be 9 months this weekend - where has the time gone?!

@krissy12 yes my Oscar is doing the same with solids. Before he was pretty good with it - ate everything and was quite focussed with it too. Now most of the time he just plays with the food, throws it on the ground, throws the spoon on the ground, trying to stand up in the high chair, looking EVERYWHERE except at the food. Drives me a bit crazy after the 10th spoon pick up 🙃 but I guess that’s just the novelty of food wearing off and he is now interested in other things.

@Laur89 Oscar started doing a shuffle on his front about a month ago. He is not lifting his bottom up like a proper crawl - he is still doing this commando crawl even now. He can’t go from his front to sitting either.

@DressingGown87 how is Paige? I hope she is now all recovered and you are feeling ok too! ❤️

How is everyone’s LO with naps? Oscar is refusing all naps - I am used to rocking him to sleep but now he just pushes me away and cries 😢 the only way I can get him to nap is either on walks in the pram or breastfeeding. Really trying to reassure myself that this is a phase and will pass, and that I’m not a bad mother for not just putting him in the cot. I literally don’t understand how other babies can sleep by themselves in the cot when “drowsy” - Oscar probably did that a grand total of 10 times in his whole lifetime!

Also is anyone thinking about going back to work? I’m feeling a bit apprehensive myself, mainly because I’m not sure how Oscar will be like at nursery / with my mum / with MIL without me. Also I am still wondering how breastfeeding will continue. I know people say supply adjusts but I get so many blocked ducts I’m just feeling really anxious about it.

Sorry for the wall of text! x

BlueLilyLilyBlue · 15/07/2021 15:07

Agree @Glooorb - it always makes me feel better when you're all having similar issues!

I'm going back to work mid August Sad really conflicted about it. I love my job and I'm excited to get back to something just for me but I also am really upset about leaving him at nursery. He'll be there four days a week and I'm so upset someone else will be looking after him that's not me Sad. He's started saying "mumma" recently and it's breaking my heart!

Nap wise DS normally does 1.5 hours in the morning and the same in the afternoon, goes down by himself in the cot. I put him down awake and he sucks his thumb to sleep. Struggles when we're out though and hates the pram so the flip side is that it's quite restrictive for going out and doing things. His night sleep is very disturbed though, he usually wakes 3-4 times a night and it's worse when he hasn't napped well.

Weaning wise DS is similar to everyone else - there is a lot of food and spoon throwing!! He still has really bad reflux though - solids has not even touched it.

How much milk is everyone's LO taking if you're using formula? DS is still on 25oz most days and I wondered if this was too much and I need to reduce? He might eat more that way.

@DressingGown87 hope you and Paige are on the mend and feeling much better!

krissy12 · 15/07/2021 16:04

@Glooorb glad I'm not the only one struggling with the eating and dreading going back to work. nap wise on a good day we do an hour in the morning and an hour in the afternoon either in the pram car or his baby swing that he is so far over the weight limit for that it doesn't rock anymore but it's the only thing he will sleep in inside. he will sleep in the cot at night but not for naps.

@BlueLilyLilyBlue were still on 32oz normally

DressingGown87 · 15/07/2021 22:53

9 months today! Where has the time gone.

Thank you all! Paige seems a lot better, still not fully bounced back, but they’ve said it will take time. She won’t let me (or the childminder) leave her now, so nipping to the loo, or making food is proving tricky. Think being poorly has coincided with separation anxiety. Has anyone found this?

Crawling - we are more on a bum shuffle too. She still hates being on her tummy, but manages to get where / what she wants (within reason), and does do a few stints or commando. @BlueLilyLilyBlue reflux hasn’t improved here either, I thought she would be starting to grow out of it by now. Is your LO medicated?

If we wasn’t “struggling” with weaning already, we are Now. As she was completely off her food. So it’s starting from square one. I keep trying her with lots of food, but she’s just messing around and refusing.

Milk is hit and miss. Some days it’s 30-40oz, other days it can be as little as 8-10oz. But this isn’t compensated with food or made a difference to intake.

Also still playing nap roulette. It can be anything between 30mins-3hours, so hard to get a routine, but generally 2naps per day. But she will sleep better in her cot, when put down awake. @Glooorb it will be just a phase, Sometimes they just get so distracted by other things, especially as this age, and are so strong minded. Your not a bad mum for not putting him the cot, it’s about doing what’s right for you both, and making you both happy.

Is anyone’s little one standing up in the cot and messing around? Paige this last week will pull herself up, shouting mama (we do also get dada 🙄). And she is saying “yes” constantly, unless she doesn’t want it 😂

I’m dreading going back to work in the office in september. At the minute I’m working for myself, so can be flexible with my days, workload, and if we’ve had a bad night, I nap 🤦🏽‍♀️ Paige does love Childminder’s though, I love seeing the videos of her laughing and playing. But I am dreading her doing the additional hours in a larger nursery setting, which will be longer days. Also apprehensive over a “team” of people looking after her, rather than an individual. She’s been with her CM 6months now, so has a lovely bond. @glooorb could you do some practice days? Or mornings? To settle in. You just pop to the shops, or home to get some jobs done. That ways it’s more of a gradual introduction?

Mc3209 · 16/07/2021 09:19

Yes to the recent solids strike. My 8mo used to be a good eater, now he is just not that into solids at all. It's a struggle. I have to say, I find it very difficult to be cheery positive when he flatly refused to eat what I e made for him. Apparently it's a phase coomon at 8 or 11 months. I am ready for this phase of refusing solids to be over.

Mc3209 · 16/07/2021 09:21

And going back to work...ugggh. I don't want to think about that. The thought of it is too stressful, especially now DS has a good going separation anxiety.

GhostWorld · 16/07/2021 11:45

Yes so reassuring hearing everyone else's babies doing the same thing!

Mine has been crawling for a while now and yesterday stood up on his own from sitting Shock so not ready for him to be walking haha.

Naps I'm the same as you @glooorb, I've always rocked him and shhd him off to sleep, no idea how people get their LOs to sleep without it! I've been putting him in the cot but he just stays awake until I pick him up.

I'm so nervous about going back to work, mine will be going 4 days too and I'm already so sad at the concept of picking him up, feeding and bathing him and then putting him in bed, I won't have anytime with him at all really Sad. I'm so scared about missing a load of his firsts too. I'm looking for a childminder rather than nursery and I'm meeting someone next week I think, no idea what to ask them or what I need to know! So awkward!

Confession: I've been using pull up nappies and I didn't realise until today that you can rip the sides to take it off, I've literally been pulling them down like pants and getting poo everywhere everytime Blush, still easier than normal nappies though so I carried on haha. Anyone else been a bit stupid about something that should be super obvious?

GhostWorld · 16/07/2021 11:46

Not sure why all the emojis look sad, it wasn't those ones I picked!

krissy12 · 21/07/2021 22:17

@GhostWorld I also didn't realise this about the pull ups until my friend pointed it out or that the plastic tape at the back is to keep it sealed when you roll the nappy up!

SamK93 · 21/07/2021 22:43

Hey ladies, anyone else struggling with this heat? What are we all doing with babies at night? My bedrooms are sooo hot, I don't open windows during day and keep curtains closed as to not let any heat in but nothing is working! I just put Noah in a vest, and a light blanket with a fan in the room, but it's still so warm. Then all night I'm constantly checking on him wondering if he's too hot or if he's feeling cold.

BlueLilyLilyBlue · 21/07/2021 23:38

@SamK93 I'm desperate for it to go cooler, its unbearable!
We're the same, keeping curtains and windows closed and fan on but it's so hot. We can't keep his door open because of our cats. He's in a very thin sleeping bag and just a nappy as he won't sleep without a bag. I'm constantly worried he's going to overheat but not sure what else we can do to cool down the room Confused

Glooorb · 22/07/2021 02:44

@SamK93 @BlueLilyLilyBlue the heat is awful. We are now into the 3rd hour of trying to get Oscar to sleep. No luck yet!

We have a fan, windows open, trying to draw a draught through the house. Blinds and windows are closed during the day. We have put ice packs and wet muslin in front of the fan to cool down the air. But he still feels so hot and he is so grumpy. :(

1990shopefulftm · 22/07/2021 13:44

He's just been sleeping in nappies for days now with the fan on and window open, his bedroom is south facing.

Gotten lucky and have his 8 month review with the HV as a home visit next month, seems like he's a bit behind as he just doesn't say da or ga or anything like that, his hearing is pretty good though so it's not that.

DressingGown87 · 22/07/2021 16:43

Struggling here with the heat! If you had asked me 2 years ago if I wished for rain, I would have laughed!
Sleeping in a vest (need something to keep the nappy in place as she wriggles so much and would probably take her nappy off). Keep windows closed through the day and blinds shut. Have a dyson fan (which is amazing) with ice packs in front of it. But still feels so hot!
