How long do you give it before you realise they are not as ready as you hoped and put them back in nappies?

Dd2 is 22mths (mil keeps saying she should be trained by now) I don't know if mil is right and i am being lazy or if i'm right and dd2 isn't ready.

She tells me when she's wet and lies on the mat when she wants changing, i did sit her on the toilet at toddler group today because she asked but she didnt do anything, she asks for the potty but never actually does anything on it (well she did twice when we first started casually trying her on it before her bath to get her used to it)

It would be nice if she was trained, my version of trained is that she asks for the potty/ toilet everytime or at least most of the time. Also once they are in pants all day without accidents is that when you do it at night too or do you do the whole lot together? silly questions i know but dd1 was very late starting and was old enough to pick it up very quickly once she was ready but dd2 is half the age dd1 was iyswim but theres a big age gap, hence my cluelessness!

LoveMyGirls · 05/07/2007 12:27

Also I have a mindee (boy) who is 2.1yrs and isn't yet potty trained either, do i wait and do them together or as he's a boy (and they do it later??) should i just get dd2 trained then when he is ready he can copy (sort of) her and do boys do it differently to girls? I have no boys of my own so any tips are handy. Thanks!

Success.

No pissing in bank. Marvellous.

But he still has toilet-a-phobia, depite bribery. Have got sweets now, but they ain't budging him.

DS1 would LOVE a pink loo seat.

I meant to say on my rext about him potty training, but I forgot because I had D{ moaning on the landline

yeahinaminute · 05/07/2007 13:09

Ah the loo seats are under the sea efforts - all fish and seaweed - the potties are lurid in yer face barbie pink - she used both for about 2 seconds !!

yeahinaminute · 05/07/2007 13:09

Are you and DP OKm with fish by the way - for the BBQ that is !!

IntergalacticWalrus · 05/07/2007 13:15

Fish is fine n dandy.

Should we bring anything? (apart form booze, that goes without saying)

TootyFrooty · 05/07/2007 13:17

Can someone link to these sit on loo seat thingies? I've tried sitting ds1 on the loo but he almost fell in (oops) and has been a bit wary ever since.

IntergalacticWalrus · 05/07/2007 13:18

We had one from Kiddicare, but it looks like an instrument of torture

BabiesEverywhere · 05/07/2007 13:22

nailpolish, I read this hint on another forum about not pooing outside a nappy.

They suggested sitting toddler the following steps :-

: Toddler sat on potty wearing a nappy to poo in
: Loosen nappy so it is barely on and again sit toddler on potty to poo
: Undo nappy altogether but still have it on the potty to poo
: Lastly remove nappy to poo straight on potty.

No idea if it works or not but might be worth a try.

IntergalacticWalrus · 05/07/2007 13:50

Ok, DS1 has now actually say on the loo without kicking off, so we are getting somewhere.

Just need him to produce now

yeahinaminute · 05/07/2007 14:15

Sorry - bloody work got in the way - just bring yourselves and whatever you need for the boy's (incl cot bed - can't find mine anywhere !!) - bring cozzies as I'm hoping the weather will be good and I can finally get the big pool filled

We're thinking of BBQ'd fishy things ( apologies Cod but you won't be featuring on my BBQ!!!) and some home made burgers - I'll make mini one's for the children - then they can load them with what they want !!

lulumamasmentee · 05/07/2007 14:17

make that 3 pairs
