He won't stop crying unless he's being held by me, preferably sleeping on one exposed boob, although at a push I can reclothe.

He is declining tuneless songs and cuddles from his siblings, and putting him down got me into a lot of trouble. Who needs words to shout?!

I can't find his warranty, and am not sure I could face returning him, collection was bad enough.

Any suggestions?

Oh no. I've only gone and ordered the bloody 2016 version, delivery due in July. Have I made a huge mistake? I knew I should have read more reviews before agreeing to order with DH Confused the parts for the 15 and 16 model are interchangeable and we didn't need to purchase any of the new upgrades, we even went for the same colour. It's going to be far too late for a refund now isn't it?

MaisieDay · 28/05/2016 18:56

I have a 1980 version and you will be pleased to hear that, after a great deal of tinkering with faulty parts, it does now seem to be working well. Unlike most machines it seems to be improve with age

Willow2016 · 28/05/2016 21:45

Thank goodness its not just my models that malfunctions then!

Got the 2002 blue model - doesnt seem to have half the functions it used to have i.e speech mode, seems stuck in a loop regarding computer games, and you tube videos. Maybe a processing fault? Other attempts to engage in conversation result in grunts and the same words repeatedly "Ok", "I am doing it", when clearly it isnt. 'Gibbs slap' up back of head sometimes works, maybe processing unit is there?
Bending mode is also a problem, plus recognising where to put things i.e softwear doesnt get thrown on floor!
Aversion to cleaning mode is also apparent but this is ofset by sometimes taking extrordinary time in cleaning mode!

Also seems unable to increase speed from 'dither mode' unless outside where it can manage to get 'running speed' on occaision. Consequently mornings are a real trial as combined with dither mode it seems unable to process putting softwear on in time to leave for upgrading modules.

2005 version seems reasonably fine at the moment but some glitches have been noted regarding menial tasks (picking up after itself etc) memory loss regarding regular tasks etc. Am hoping that these will not escalate further although it spends a lot of time looking at you tube vids like the older version. Hopefully will not lose any more functions like 2002 model. Smile

Mine are way out of warranty Sad 01 models, some bugger told me the 2 for 1 offer was a good deal Hmm

Ericaequites · 28/05/2016 22:59

I have a 1936 mother which has lost much of its memory, and now its output is highly irregular. Unfortunately, there are no spare parts available.

headinhands · 28/05/2016 23:06

Gosh this sums up the whole problem with ordering genetically similar and very small humans. When you fill out the order form you get to specify your requirements but the small print, which we rarely read, stipulates that no one is responsible for a delivery that you weren't expecting. In 2003 I ordered and received a small human. My standard manual seemed to work until the model was about 11 years old. It turns out this version has a very different operating system to most versions of human. I think it's Aspergers 1.2. Problem is, the manual I need isn't available/doesn't exist. Still very happy with my purchase just wish I had the troubleshooting guide. 😀

FuckingFattyBitch · 28/05/2016 23:11

adora I'm very glad I didn't get fooled by the two for one offer.

paddypants13 · 28/05/2016 23:19

I have the pink 2013 (01 edition) which has developed a major fault with the listening device and the volume control is stuck at maximum. Luckily, it's sleep mode kicked in after 10 weeks and it has the "I love you mummy" and vegetable eating modes as standard.

I also have the blue 2015 (07 edition) model. I am considering sending this one back before the warrenty expires because there appears to be no sleep mode at all. It also appears to be stuck on self destruct mode with repeated attempts throw itself off furniture and eat strange items. It does work very well on snuggle mode though.

HRHlikeahornyponywould · 28/05/2016 23:27

Have you tried turning it off then on again??

This should work

manicmij · 28/05/2016 23:32

Seems both models I know of have been sent with no On/Off switch and no instruction manual. Can spend ages tilting and twirling trying to get them to change noise level with little success. Only thing that seems to have an affect is holding them up close and patting on the back for ages. Volume seems to reduce but only for short while. Definitely faulty but threw away all the packaging and can't return.

CodyKing · 28/05/2016 23:39

I got the buy one get one free 2006 models - both are costing a lot in upkeep - it may be cheaper to dismantle and buy new models -

My 1974 DH model had very low weekend battery life and often forgets to plug in for a recharge - seems to get stuck on top gear repeats for which there is no manual reset button

My 2002 model has shut down and disengaged - apparently the fault is all mine which is stuck on repeat mode -

dogdrifts · 29/05/2016 00:23

My 02 blue model has just installed the 'Job' feature, which comes with added 'independence' and 'cash' modes. These seemed to be a great deal initially, but are leading to issues with the control systems. The 00 pink has had 'Job' installed for a while and it hasn't led to any problems at all - the 00 model seems to even be able to run 'Job' and 'Study' simultaneously. I can't work out if it's a compatibility issue with 'Job' and the 02, or if the new feature has introduced a virus. The 03 pink seems to require 'Job' installation too, but that's definitely a fault. This model was damaged in initial transit and 'Job' is incompatible. The model requires frequent repair work to run, and had to be practically rebuilt in the shop prior to home delivery. It's glitchy but functional, and we are used to the variable processing speed and (alarmingly literal) software crashes.

SwearySwearyQuiteContrary · 29/05/2016 01:20

I was very surprised by the number and cost of in-app purchases required to keep my 99, 01 and 06 models updated and operating. They are all vulnerable to puberty malware and it can take several years for the operating system to return to something approaching normal functioning.

Maybebabybee · 29/05/2016 02:36

I have a glitch with my 1982 DP model. It gets stuck in sleep mode and won't come out even when the 2016 model is in awake mode. It also snores.

FrancisdeSales · 29/05/2016 02:58

I have a 2003 that suddenly has grown much bigger with no warning. In fact this model is actually bigger than the operator. I have found all previous attachments no longer fit. It is very confusing as 2003 is now bigger that the 2000 model? Has anyone else had this issue?

It seemed to coincide with all my birthday bubble bath and Lush bath bombs mysteriously vanishing. I know this makes no sense. I can't see how it could possibly be returned as it's now bigger than the manufacturing plant?

Also highly attracted to electronic devices. 2000 is often only operating with the use of a small electronic device and now 2003 insists it is essential to basic functioning. Is this true?

KimmySchmidtsSmile · 29/05/2016 04:30

2002 model has been on bloody standby since 2014.
2010 model won't stop talking.
2013 model is in fight mode.
All three models were impulse-buys and have ended up costing £££ to refurbish/maintain/repair. Do not wish to replace but clearly need new controls.

Shamrock Wine everybody!

mailfuckoff · 29/05/2016 05:41

Another one who took advantage of bogof back in 09. Two blues but we went for different outer faces. Now one is stuck in Mr smart pants mode and one is Mr grumpy. I'm hoping two days of exclusive parent time will sort out the kinks

Mercedes519 · 29/05/2016 08:00

Ah yes sweary the in app purchases.

You get sold this with no need to buy further in-app purchases. You then discover that especially in the later models the software works much better with extra credits. Its getting expensive and I wonder if I can get a refund?

BathshebaDarkstone · 29/05/2016 08:19

I have - wait for it - the 1990, 1991, 2007 and 2011 models. The 1990 model still needs a shocking amount of attention or it just grinds to a halt. The 07 and 11 models seem to be programmed to destroy each other. I should just chuck the whole lot in the bin and buy a new model, shouldn't I? Sad

mateysmum · 29/05/2016 08:43

OP Is it too late to cancel the cheque?

sallyhasleftthebuilding · 29/05/2016 10:15

My 2002 model is constantly searching online for updates -

Permanent on lied own standby mode and needs recharging every 2 hours

The talk mode had broken completely other than the lift request or money request mode which is becoming more frequent

theredjellybean · 29/05/2016 10:48

bathsheba...surely this thread has shown that there has been no improvement in the quality or likelihood of glitchs appearing in any model so i would suggest you do not consider a new model of same sort but consider a four legged model. I have a ddog 2006 version 1.0 , i could order exact model, colour and size...it has run with absolutely no glitches whatsoever for the last 10 yrs and now has a minor problem with activity programme which the tech guys say is due an age related wear and tear on the heart valves, but after 10 yrs of consistently excellent use i cannot complain about this. I highly recommend these

Lynnm63 · 29/05/2016 11:04

I have a 2000 model and was then tempted by the bogof 2003 pink/blue combo deal. It seems the 2000 and 2003 models are not comparable as they cause high pitched noise when in close proximity and have to be manually separated.

The in app purchases that were optional in the early years seem to be essential now and are very expensive.

sparkleglitterdaisy · 29/05/2016 12:41

My 2004 model has developed a horrible whining noise , really irritating . Thought it might be dirty so made it clean itself & it's now worse than ever . I always thought guarantees were a waste of money , but now I wish I'd got one ....

BoobeeAndMe · 29/05/2016 15:19

Haha! This is rather funny!
My 1986 model was a GREAT baby, but has already been threatened to go back inside, through the same route, when he was a teenager...the adult version still has attitude, but I LOVE him!
Our babies can be pretty ferocious at times!
