He won't stop crying unless he's being held by me, preferably sleeping on one exposed boob, although at a push I can reclothe.

He is declining tuneless songs and cuddles from his siblings, and putting him down got me into a lot of trouble. Who needs words to shout?!

I can't find his warranty, and am not sure I could face returning him, collection was bad enough.

Any suggestions?

Managed to disable it at the mains with use of swaddle. Look forward to it randomly rebooting itself at short intervals throughout the night it's supposed to be sleeping longer stretches by now.

OrlandaFuriosa · 27/05/2016 19:41

Regrettably not all pre millennium models were reliable. There was a problem in the manufacture and delivery of a 1997 model, and just when we thought we had managed to put it on eBay in vgc, the service shop fucked up, so we now have to do repair, repackage and then find a buyer. So boring.

And it took ages to ensure that the correct outflow pipes were used in the early stages. The fluid level seemed to be out of control and constantly needing topping up, whilst fountains were ejected from the wrong pipe, accompanied by an incessant loud warning noise. Someone in the factory must have been having an off day.

SloppyDailyMailJournalism · 27/05/2016 19:57

I'm worried about our 2001 model. There must have been a bug initially on blue device purchase as it now self-cleans, a programme I had always been searching for. Unfortunately this only seems to happen just before collaboration with a pink unit.

My 2001 issue requires almost an hour of auto-cleaning every evening (sigh).

Jellybean81 · 27/05/2016 20:03

I have a 2015 sport model which arrived on drink, sleep, poop mode but has levelled up over the last 11 months. The current level includes such challenges as escape from the change mat (bonus points for getting poop everywhere), dodge the fruit and vegetable and the 3am power boost. I have not yet achieved sleeping through the night so any cheat codes would be welcome.

lgalla1985 · 27/05/2016 21:20

I have 2010 model auto shut down at 8 pm auto start 8am after charging does have some minor listening issues also has the 'know it all bug'. Also have 2012 model which I think was a faulty model.

BoffinMum · 27/05/2016 21:35

My 1998 and 2001 models did actually come in their packaging and I kept it for a while in the freezer but I have thrown it out now. That was clearly a bad move.

FuckingFattyBitch · 27/05/2016 22:17

My 2015 model is currently in sleep mode. I didn't need the oral plug in either. I think the manufacturer has started issuing bug fixes to them. I've had mine 10 months nearly, so it's about time really.
The 2013 model has downloaded a new app called "hug mummy and say please until you get your own way" it's unbelievably cute. It usually works too, but sometimes the app crashes which puts her into "high pitched scream mode".
And I've discovered a new problem with the 2008 version.
Along with the listening device being glitch, they also seem to have a volume problem, which means every step is like an elephants.

SisyphusDad · 27/05/2016 22:26

I think that they must have introduced an artificial intelligence capability in time for the 2007 models. Mine seems to have learned from the 2003 model that being nice to Daddy and fluttering its eyelashes (that last might be a misbuild erroneously copied from an F version) gets it far more, far more easily than the frequent breakdowns exhibited by the 2003 model. With the older one I can only try and live with it until my initial contract expires in 2021 and then shop around for a better one (a contract, that is).

LRA170 · 27/05/2016 23:08

Mine are 1973 version . ..I popped on headphones and listened to Led Zeplin

LD33 · 27/05/2016 23:58

My version is the new 2016 model, still seems to have the same clitches as older models tho. Have taken it to out of hours a few times for repairs.... Seems that after 12 weeks though it's become more reliable, must have just needed a few runs to bed in the new engine Confused

BreakfastAtSquiffanys · 28/05/2016 00:03

Has anybody worked out where the intermittent leaks come from?

TheDrsDocMartens · 28/05/2016 08:02

I'd agree with the premillenium versions being less buggy. My 1999 version has only had minor faults with clashing with other versions but generally has worked well. The 2001 version came with 5 year batteries and the refuel settings are still broken.

CattyMcCatface · 28/05/2016 10:20

Ha ha! Been there, done that! Mine had a volume control problem, turned up full blast and non-stop! (All day and night! Don't know how we survived looking back!) Mine came on special offer though and no returns!

Funny how you learn to do tasks one-handed, holding a screaming baby!

Mine wanted to feed constantly too, and I was determined to breast feed. Advised to try a dummy in between feeds and it was a big help as some of the feeding demands were really for comforting I suppose. Also advised to try putting a worn nightdress or top (I.e. not clean) in the crib so baby would have my scent. Worth a try!

Mercedes519 · 28/05/2016 10:43

So pleased/not pleased to find that these bugs are endemic to the models and not some glitch in my models. The 2006 is suffering from the loose eye problem - causing them them to roll. It also seems to have a issue with its bending function which means that everything has to be left on the floor.

The 2010 model definitely has the new empathy chip which was missing in the earlier model but it's on high which tips it into emotional manipulation mode. Does anyone know where the setting is?

passportmess · 28/05/2016 11:17

Mercedes I have a 2009 blue model with empathy settings at high. When this tips over to emotional manipulation mode I deploy my arched eyebrow protocol which sometimes works. Worth trying even though you have a slightly later model.

CatWithKittens · 28/05/2016 11:51

Apart from the usual teething problems all my models were quite easy to run when new and. although there are glitches from time to time, they seem to be running well. I have not noticed any marked difference between the 02, 04, 05, 07 and 12 models and certainly would not be without any of them. I have noticed that maintenance and regular servicing is, however, very expensive, they consume a lot of fuel and, as they get older, need both occasional pushing to get them started and regular changes of accessories. I should perhaps add that they all leaked badly, during the day for several years and overnight for rather longer but understand that this has been normal with all models but that older owners tend to forget how theirs behaved in this regard. It is strange because we too have had the four legged furry version which is much better designed for this.

Plentymore · 28/05/2016 12:31

The 2007 model has developed a talk back function. The manual said it was an optional extra, but I don't remember ticking the "yes" box.

QuinionsRainbow · 28/05/2016 14:29

Which version of Windows is he running? Many people swear by 7 as being the most reliable version ever, so if he's on 8 or 10 you might want to downgrade.

Mercedes519 · 28/05/2016 17:22

I reckon the 'talk back' mode was one of those sneaky opt out options given the amount of units that have it enabled.

I'm wondering about the operating software on my 2006 model. It's taken three hours to load the dishwasher whilst making odd moaning and whining sounds. I've tried switching it off and on again but it doesn't seem to be working any quicker.

clareken260 · 28/05/2016 17:38

We have a 2007 pink model with the talk back module on full blast, along with the I am the parent attitude add on. This infuriates the 2011 blue model until it explodes.

jb53 · 28/05/2016 17:48

I had a 1986 model and that one was amazing but my 1989 model was definatly faulty turned out they forgot to install lactase enzyme in her motherboard.....

bigbuttons · 28/05/2016 18:20

The expression app on my pink 2003 model seems to have got stuck and I think there must be some kind of short circuit due to over cleaning as there is a repeated-low growling sound whenever anyone approaches. The bolts on the arms have come loose as they randomly fly out and can cause some considerable damage to other members of the family.

My pink 2005 has developed a fault; it barely moves and when it is required to do something it completely stops. This does not work well with all the other models in the house.

My 2001 pink has completely broken down.

My 2007 blue is now working brilliantly although it has on occasion tried to download the talkback app.

mateysmum · 28/05/2016 18:26

I agree that some batches of the 1997 model do have a design fault. After about 13 years, they develop software glitches affecting their communication, noise and homing functions. Despite every effort on my part to reboot the program, it seems to have developed a life of its own yet still be very dependent on main user input for service and facilities management.
I am hoping that this is because the system is going through an upgrade to the adult version and will in time operate smoothly again.

MimsyBorogroves · 28/05/2016 18:40

My 2008 model keeps getting stuck in strop mode. Hard resetting by pushing his head and belly button simultaneously for 5 seconds does nothing but worsen the situation.

2011 model is glitching in some sort of Google app as he Has An Answer For Everything. We have to install the education feature in September. I fear this may only worsen the situation.
