OP posts:
TheMysticMasseuse · 13/04/2010 17:27

this thread is almost full, btw...

Francagoestohollywood · 13/04/2010 17:32

I'll have a Shardene.
Boy's got to be Omar, of course.

Bodie is a great name for a dawg! I'm almost of your fantasy dog. I'll get a Bubbles then.

Why did you dream of Rawls ?

TheMysticMasseuse · 13/04/2010 17:38

Of course- Bubbles is THE perfect name for a dog.

I have NO idea why i dreamed of Rawls. frankly, i found it a bit disturbing, but my psyche works in mysterious ways...

Francagoestohollywood · 13/04/2010 17:46

It's probably Rob Pattison in disguise!

I dreamt I was flirting with scamarcio during a yoga lesson, recently

Sputnik · 13/04/2010 17:48

I really like Bunny actually. Though I wouldn't inflict it as a real name it's a nice nickname. I had a leather-clad biker friend called Bunny back in the day so maybe I'm biased.

Francagoestohollywood · 13/04/2010 17:55

I like Bunny too. Wasn't Bunny the name of the mother of Charlotte's first husband in sex and the city (yes, I'm a saddo )

Francagoestohollywood · 13/04/2010 17:56

also the name etc etc.

Bunny Colvin is a pretty cool name

Sputnik · 13/04/2010 18:00

Yes you're right.
That was inappropriate naming I think!

TheMysticMasseuse · 13/04/2010 18:13

Also Eminem's name in 8th Mile

Francagoestohollywood · 13/04/2010 18:17

haven't seen 8th mile. is it good?

TheMysticMasseuse · 13/04/2010 18:20

very good, yes. if you liked Rocky, Flashdance, etc, you know, working class underdog becomes the hero kind of thing. with great music. and Kim Basinger as white trash. Very powerful role by the late Brittany Murphy, too

Francagoestohollywood · 13/04/2010 18:22

I do like the genre, though I loathe Flashdance (prefer rocky!)

Poor Brittany Murphy. What was the cause of her death at the end?

TheMysticMasseuse · 13/04/2010 18:26

i didn't keep up with the goss, but i think cocaine or anorexia

btw. i have placed a bet on whcih t-shirt you will pick (check your FB messages!)

Francagoestohollywood · 13/04/2010 18:29

Yes, I'd have thought a mix of being anorexic and snorting coke. Poor thing

busynotbored · 13/04/2010 20:11

Porcamiseria - Hi there !! I saw from an earlier post ur DH is from Pantelleria, we lived in Selinunte near Mazara. Where abouts in the UK are u ? I'm in Liverpool. My due date is 16th August but due to previous complications they have been pushing me for another c section. (last 2 were sections, DD was in Sicily and for no valid medical reason but the surgeon did get paid for it DS was in Liverpool and was emergency at 31 weeks !!). However when I saw the consultant last week he was pleased how well the pregnancy was going and has agreed to leave me till 10th August to see if I can go naturally. I ca still change my mind about section at last minute but just in case I'm booked to have baby on 10th August .
DH loves Rocky, I loved Flashdance when I was a kid xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Francagoestohollywood · 13/04/2010 20:49

Ah Selinunte is beautiful!

Good news from the consultant bnb, would you prefer a vaginal birth, do yo uthink?

busynotbored · 13/04/2010 21:07

I'd like to have a go naturally, this is my last baby and I feel my last chance to do things "right". I also want to try breastfeeding which I never got to do with the other two. My friends in Sicily are gobsmacked the consultant is even letting me consider a natural birth.
I can't wait to go to Selinunte in May, gutted we can't go in the summer but would rather eat my own head than give birth in the hospital in Castelvetrano !!

Francagoestohollywood · 13/04/2010 21:15

Unfortunately c sections rates are very high in Southern Italy.
I hear they are offering more and more vbacs (is this the right acronym?) in northern italy, which is a good sign.

I'd give vaginal birth a try too, your consultant sounds really sympathetic.

busynotbored · 13/04/2010 21:26

The hospital where I had DD was investigated not long after I had her as the c scetion rate was so high. They discovered the surgeons were getting paid for every section as it was classed as an operation.
My consultant is a lovely guy and vey supportive. Its like a whole new world giving birth here !!

Francagoestohollywood · 13/04/2010 21:29

Yep, that is the main problem in southern italy hospitals, they get more refunds for c sections from the govtm.
Also a high % of women choose to give birth in private cliniche in southern Italy, where it's more likely to have a c section. It is a sorry state of affairs.

Bucharest · 14/04/2010 07:56

Morning, Busy I didn't realise dd had also been a c-sec, though with it being dahn here I suppose I should have presumed! (currently 2 of our school comitiva pregnant and having c-secs of course. One mum took dd to music lesson the other week and dd came back and said "Ines was telling me that when babies are born the doctor cuts a hole in your tummy and takes the baby out and I told her that isn't right" Ines herself was the next day that a) I had done it the vaggie way and b) Dd knew about it. Dd's maestra's sister also having c-sec today! (which gets me out of double booking of incontro famiglia and music lesson as maestra herself seemingly won't be at incontro)

porcamiseria · 14/04/2010 14:03

busynotbored, we are London based. My sicilian DP is a stay at home Dad would you beleive!

So a potential CS! I really dont have any desire to go through CB again, but thats another story.... I am actually to scared to even discuss birth on MN any more!!!! I am due 25 August.

Franca and Bucharest, keep seeing you on same AIBU threads, funny! It is very pissy over there today

very quick poll, whats average bedtime for Italian bambini? people over here think we are marytrs/mad as DS (2) goes to bed 9pm

tho in Pantelleria they thinks that early!!!

BananaGio · 14/04/2010 15:44

Hi- congrats Rosa!!!So glad you are sorted finally!
Hi to Busy and Porcamiseria.Re bedtimes-my 3 year old DS has improved from his 10.30pm+ he put us through for ages now has started scuola materna but still between 9 and 9.30. All my UK friends think am mad too but am happy with it, means dp sees him when he gets back from work, we can have dinner together and when the warm weather starts we can go out early evening to eat/walk/play and he is fine. He isnt over tired or irritable so suits us all. If we stay out later then he goes to bed later and never caused us any issues. I am a Brit living in Rome with Roman DS by the way. Another emergency C section one here plus a MASSIVE fan of epidurals as am a wimp
MM meant to say before-how exciting re your plans!! Where are you up to with it all now?
Re names always loved Federica but would be a no go if we have a dd one day as dp is male equivalent so too confusing. You are right re the Brits making Frederica as well of it-DP gets called by every which way bar his real name when in UK. Also like Alessandra.

Yo Gio!

Dd has a halfwayhouse bedtime between UK and Italian style...bedtime prep starts as Who Wants to be a Millionaire finishes (8pm) and she's asleep by 9.

Irrespective of what sleep she needs, I need a free hour or two in the evening.

Ideally, I'd like her to be asleep by 8, but she'd hardly see dp.

They all think I'm a loon here of course but it's tinged with jealousy, I can tell.

Francagoestohollywood · 14/04/2010 16:50

Hello!
Bucharest, how did the school meeting go?

Bedtime: my dc are now 7.5 and 5.5 and we get them ready for bed at 8.30 (this makes the majority of other Italian parents go ). We do pj, teeth brushing and we read 10/15 mins and then we switch off the lights. Dd falls asleep very easily, so she is asleep by 9ish. Ds takes longer, but generally he is asleep by 9.30.
Obviously their bedtime is later over the weekend and during the holidays.

I'd say that the average Milanese bedtime is 9.30 pm, but I know of some children who aren't in bed before 11.

PorcaMiseria, yes, I've seen you one a few aibus . All those threads about smokers only result in making me want to light one, and I usually smoke very rarely (when i go out)

Ah ladies, dh is on his way to the states. He'll be away for 12 days. Heeeeeeelp!
