Ciao tutte!!

OP posts:
TheMysticMasseuse · 07/04/2010 12:03

Hello everyone! and congratulations Rosa, it looks like it's happening! YAY!

I have some exciting news which i want to share- After much toing and froing I have decided to do something really scary and exciting, and I am going to India in a couple of weeks for a training/ volunteer project. It's something that would bring some of my (at the moment much underused) professional skills in a development context and while I won't get paid for it, i hope it'll pave the way for actual paid work in this field in the future. I will be there for a week, and then continue doing some work remotely for them for a few months. My DH has been very encouraging, although it worried me when he said "You can't live your life on mumsnet, you need to challenge yourself more "

I leave in 2 1/2 weeks (although I don't have a plane ticket, or a visa yet )

Francagoestohollywood · 07/04/2010 13:14

Oh wow, well done Masseuse!!! So happy for you and a bit ! Where exactly are you going to be based? (do you think husbands find MN a bit subversive? ).

Hello SG!

TheMysticMasseuse · 07/04/2010 13:18

3 days and 3 days in the south, then bck home and work from home....

i think DH is a bit suspicious of MN because he can't quite figure out what is it that we do on here (although he knows of you as the the ultimate oracle on the Wire )

And i think he is mostly horrified about all the fanfiction crap i am doing on the other thread (which has now spawned a blog, a writing competition, and all sorts of fun nonsense)

Also I think he suspects that I neglect my dds (true that)

Francagoestohollywood · 07/04/2010 13:26

It sounds like a great experience Masseuse, you'll have to tell me in details everything you do/see .

I think that since Adam and Eve, men have always deeply feared women chatting ...
Have you really created a fan fiction blog? I actually think it's great! You'll never lure me to the twilight side, but I think that having a blog and writing fan fiction is another good way to spend time.
As for neglecting your dds... I can't really see that happening! (nor will they let you )

I'm obviously very flattered to be called a wire oracle... I so wish it . Btw, are you satisfied by kima in s5?

TheMysticMasseuse · 07/04/2010 13:32

I LOVE Kima in season 5. She is not only a great pOlice, but she's really matured, and I am glad she doesn't become a female McNulty (that'll be Sydnor )

there are some really crazy great people on the twilight thread, the blog is often hilarious (i didn't create it, it's kind of a collective resource but the heart and mind behind it is someone else). And the writing is so much fun, i can't believe how addictive that is

I even wrote some sex scenes . v liberating

Rosa · 07/04/2010 13:34

Awww I went on FB first .... MM that is great and good for you . Nice that your dh is so supportive and great that it could open up new doors for you. Go for it girl ... Check if you need any vaccinations quick as they need to be done in time ....

Francagoestohollywood · 07/04/2010 13:36

See? I told you you were in for some nice surprises re female characters in season 5!

at writing sex scenes! Have you been inspired by Harmony serie viola??? Or have you been more, ahem, graphic?

Francagoestohollywood · 07/04/2010 13:37

Ah yes, vaccinations!

TheMysticMasseuse · 07/04/2010 13:50

i never read Harmony! I think therein lies the problem. I spent my formative years reading La Cognizione del Dolore and the like, missed out on all the fluff, and am now catching up when i should know better

I don't think i need any vaccinations. I def need a visa though, and for that i need my travel ticket, and for that i need to know exactly where i am going [catch 22 emoticon]

Sputnik · 07/04/2010 14:06

That sounds great about India MM, go for it!
My DH always asks what I'm saying about him on MN

Great about the house too Rosa, I think you really need someone to oversee the work and even then you are going to have to check on them frequently or all the sockets will end up in the wrong places etc.

So does Sydnor have a surprise sex change in the last episode of 5, or have I missed something? I am annoyed with myself for having come away and left my DVDs in Rome, as I only have the last episode to watch left. Guess I will savour it more for having to wait a week. YY re Kima, I loved the "Goodnight moon, goodnight stars, goodnight hoppers, goodnight scammers" scene.

Francagoestohollywood · 07/04/2010 14:21

Oh, I had eclectic tastes as a teenager ... so, alongside Elsa Morante, Flaubert etc etc etc I read some Harmonies and, brace yourself, Virginia Andrews (which I read in English, )

YO Sputnik! Sorry re spoilers, I thought you finished s5! Yes, I loved that scene with Kima. And I loved it when she found that little boy in the wardrobe at Junebug's, how she acted all protective, so instintivamente.

Sputnik · 07/04/2010 14:42

So he does have a surprise sex change then? Well I can cope
But I'm intrigued....

Francagoestohollywood · 07/04/2010 15:52

... just wait and see... I can't believe you are holding so well, for so many days, without having seen the last episode. Respect!

Rosa · 08/04/2010 16:07

Went to to notaio and found there was another carta missing . Then back to the bank and on reading the breakdown of the mortgage it seems that they are giving us more money ....NOt sure if its an error however so back again domani....
Sput will an architect sort of stay behind a project as well or will there be like a capo'imprese?'. Do we need a geometra as well??? We are still unsure on what to do with the architect so getting the young and enthusiastic guy along with the local lady and see who comes up with what - both are coming for initial once over which is free so we need to decide. The young chap also works for the same company that the bank will be sending to check on the restoration as it goes ahead so we might find that he could be cheaper.HAve heard so many nasty things about architects that am a bit scared!

Francagoestohollywood · 08/04/2010 20:33

I think that ideally the architect supervises all the works in the cantiere, and works alongside the contractor. The architect is the project manager, usually. Here in Italy. Unless the owner decides to be the project manager, but I don't think I'd ever be able to do so...

Sputnik · 08/04/2010 21:04

Fuck, the speech therapist I found can't work with DS until August at least, will have to start looking again.

Not sure about the architect Rosa, when MIL re-did her house there was someone who oversaw all the others, but there was no knocking down of walls and stuff so no architect involved. Ditto our house, we oversaw that ourselves.

Francagoestohollywood · 08/04/2010 21:06

Oh no Sputnik, that's a setback . Can she recommend someone else?

I think if you have to have structural works on your property you need an architect to sign a project. The project must be also signed by a contractor and needs to be presented at the comune. I think it's called DIA.

Sputnik · 08/04/2010 21:21

No she is new here, hence the problems. I might try going back to the woman who gave me her details in the first place. She was full but said if I really couldn't find anyone to get back to her.

Francagoestohollywood · 08/04/2010 21:26

Yes, that sounds like a good move. Could you start with someone else and then switch to this speech therapist in August, or is it not the "done thing"?

Sputnik · 08/04/2010 21:39

I will be lucky if I find anyone, I think. She has offered to help via email, just that she can't officially work with anyone atm. I am going to take her at her word and fire off a load of questions!

Francagoestohollywood · 08/04/2010 21:47

Yes, I'd do that too! She sounds really caring.
What is the nursery saying now, have you talked to them again?

Sputnik · 08/04/2010 21:58

The nursery are saying not to worry too much, he hasn't had any more tantrums there which was what made her mention autism in the first place, after he had a really huge one. I think reading between the lines she kind of regrets having said that and is trying to reassure me.

However it got me worried and I see he does have some mild symptoms, mostly the speech delay. The paed seemed to think there was some problem too. Unfortunately we couldn't get hold of the neurologist he referred us to either, think maybe he went on holiday. Feel like nothing is moving here.

Francagoestohollywood · 08/04/2010 22:05

Yes, I understand your frustration. I wonder if getting to see a specialist at a hospital would help, but of course there'd be the problem with the language. Plus, long waiting lists.

spaghettina · 09/04/2010 11:41

Buongiorno Signore, thought I'd share my happy news: DD was born in the early hours of Easter Sunday!
It all went very smoothly, she was on time after all and the birth was a better experience than I expected. Been home since Tuesday; she's adorable, driving us slightly mad at night but I guess that's to be expected... am going to try to grab some sleep now that she's napping at last.

Rosa · 09/04/2010 12:45

See I said an Easter bunny Spag- Many Congratulations and hope that the nights improve .
Sputnik how very frustrating that you found someone can she or the original person not advise/suggest anybody else you can go to? mind you the other day on local Tv they did this huge thing on logopedia and how many childrens dental problems have been corrected by speech therapy.
Thanks for the advice on the architect / project manager Dh went to Ikea yesterday but the delivery charges to this place are just going to be too hard to justify any large items pity as I rather fancied a kitchen......
