Hello, welcome, benvenuti

OP posts:
PippiHasALifeOfRiley · 13/11/2009 21:38

Sputnik bu**er!!! I have also discovered that I broke my back bumper a while ago while reversing onto a pole ! I am too scared to take it to the garage! I suspect we are talking about a similar amount. Will check it out after xmas.

Sputnik · 13/11/2009 21:50

My car is fine, if it was sratched I could live with that (in fact DH already bumped it). It was the other person's car, unfortunatly.

PippiHasALifeOfRiley · 13/11/2009 22:01

He/she must have been an honest italian. Once when at my mums she, all excited about the girls in the cars, reversed out of a parking bay into another car, at 1km an hour. Honestly there was NOTHING. She hardly touched it. The guy saw it and came over all with an attitude and starting talking about sospensioni, asse etc. Guy lives in the same building as my brother. Kid you not he claimed 1800 Euro for a Fiat Bravo. Ladri.

Camomilla · 13/11/2009 22:13

at the cheek of some people, pippi!!

soooooooo windy, the fireplace is sooooooo noisy!! and I fancy a glass of wine, but the wine is in the garage at the bottom of the garden

Rosa · 14/11/2009 08:37

HURRUMPH at cars and cakes I would love to cake make but have to clean so I am on MN !
re cars one summer I was working in Umbria and 3 times a week I went into central Perugia and parked in the central car park its always a squash and you leave the keys with the man as usually you car is blocked in - mine was a tiny lancia so it was moved lots as it fitted into tiny spaces. Mid August I went in and it was empty I was so taken aback I lost the ability to park and hit a post ... For the rest of the summer the park men took the mickey something rotten - It was a hire car and I talked my way out of the excess..... ( we had big contracts with them then !)Right catch up later and I am mega green at teh museums just perfect for a NOvember day Dh and I were thinking about what to do with the dd's ...Don't think they would like the Correr or Accademia here .......

PippiHasALifeOfRiley · 14/11/2009 11:49

Rosa I know exactly which car park you mean and I will not blame you. To say it is a tight squeeze is a real underestimation indeed! LOL.Didn;t know you worked there? I might have been there when you were.

Franca I stole the 'bad mum of the year award' from you today: just back from A&E after pulling minipippi's bone out of her elbow . I was only swinging her gently .
She is superminipippi. She cried a bit, then didn;t move it. When in the pediatric waiting room she saw toys and went to grab them and the bone went back on his own and she was as mad as before. Thank god.

PippiHasALifeOfRiley · 14/11/2009 11:50

dislocating is a much better term.

Rosa · 14/11/2009 13:23

Pippi you terrible mum !!!!! Just glad she is ok and I expect being spoilt for being such a good girl.
I was in Umbria in the 90.s I think the earlier part. Lived in Gubbio and used to go into Pg twice sometimes 3 times a week. DId 2 summers there if my memory serves me right ! I can remember flying down the hill back into Gubbio one hot day windows open singing and was stopped by the caribinieri. Gave them all the docs etc of the car and as it was hot they said why don't you get out and stand in the shade....Next phrase was ' Signorina where are your shoes?'Needless to say I then saw the same carbibieri regularly and they often stopped me just to see I had my shoes on !!!!

Rosa · 14/11/2009 13:24

Have decided Dh is a knob today and so am going to take dd shopping when she wakes up .... ( argument about houses !)

Francasaysrelax · 14/11/2009 13:32

Oh poor minipippi! What a brave little girl she is .

Btw Pippi, I don't think you have stolen the award... you were just playing with her, it could have happened to anyone. The sock's accident is quite difficult to beat, I still feel guilty for that massive rant

Speaking of Italians and their skewed relationship with their cars, I've just overheard a guy speaking on his cell phone, while we were in the queue at the supermarket till:

"What do you mean you can't find a parking space?"
"I've always found a space in that area"
"Park it on the yellow lines" (those are for cars with a resident's parking permit)
"Nah, don't put it in the garage"
"Look, if it gets scratched in the garage it'll be 1000 euros to fix it, if you get a multa on the yellow lines it'll be only 50 euros"

I was . So that's the average person's way of reasoning? Gosh!

We went to the movies yesterday night! We saw the Almodovar's movie, which was good until it got a bit boring at the end. I always enjoy Almodovar, but I thought Volver was 100 times better than this one.

Lol at the carabinieir/shoes tale

Oh yes, I always argue with dh re houses. They don't understand much, do they ?

OP posts:
Rosa · 14/11/2009 13:46

I wouldn't have the guts to even confess if I scraped the car. I caught the tyre ( FGS) on the pavement when you go into Tronchetto - it is a really bad angle - and it had marks - dh huffed so I huffed back !!!
I am doing every paper, site, advert for a house. He says he has no faith and has given up
Me ok where do we go in Mestre?
Him - we go and trial and area for 3-4 mths and see if we like it ...
Me - What about schools / etc for dd we can't move her round we need to think about that first and then take it from there.
Him - They do use cars in Mestre you know !
Me- Yes but seeing as it will be me doing all the driving round then surely is best to find an area that has decent schools and facilities nearby or within a short distance
Him- Well I don't know about that
Me - Well where would you like me to start ? I have no idea plus I don't even know the area?
FGS -The thing is it is always me who does everything first even by errore ( anything from nidi to scuole - in Ve plus holidays , clothing etc )then I can tell him . It is hard enough not knowing what how to do things in this blessed country without him not helping. ALl I get is 'no lo so' Well neither do I and its your bloody country !
Oh and now minirosa has woken up so he will be grumpy as he hasn't napped !

Francasaysrelax · 14/11/2009 13:51

YANBU!
You are totally right. If you really have to move to Mestre, you really need to do your homework well. Find a place nr good schools/activities/good public transport, as having to drive in such a populated area must be a nightmare (or it would be for me!!!!)
He has to explore with you!
However, keep monitoring the venetian situation.

Btw, I've always been the one house hunting as well...

OP posts:
JavierBardem · 14/11/2009 14:46

DaMosto was on the radio this am talking about the mock funeral Venessia is holding today. It is sad you all have to move out of your city....Do I understand Rosa that your dh does not know any families in Mestre? Surely friends of friends can give you some advice? Miserable situation for you....

PippiHasALifeOfRiley · 14/11/2009 16:29

DD is very much all right so no guilt trip whatsoever here. It looks as if nothing happened. Boh. Maybe it was all a dream.

Rosa LOL. I always tell DH not to drive barefoot in italy but he always does. Oh the road to gubbio. I have done it many times singing a squarciagola. The memories. Well yes I was there too. I was very much there till '96. Maybe we met. What did you do there? Oh and same here. DH had his believes re house hunting based on nothing and was doing nothing proactive. At least I knew London as much as him. Who could you ask about Mestre?

Francasaysrelax · 14/11/2009 16:47

Pippi, guess what I'm doing ?............................................ Lesso . It's a dark, gloomy day, so it was very much needed.

I've also bought a Terence Conran book on Kitchens . Gosh I have mani bucate.

OP posts:
PippiHasALifeOfRiley · 14/11/2009 17:50

YUK!! [Vomit emoticon]!

dark gloomy day here too Franca but my mum is making Gnocchi for the girls! Slurp! Shame Dh and I are going out !

Rosa · 14/11/2009 19:51

Pippi I always sung going downhill into Gubbio especially the last straight bit before the houses start ( mind you it has probably changed now !- You could really zoom down there !!!I also only had a radio in the car and you could never get it tuned over the hills! I worked in tourism and used to go into the CIt office on the main square.
I have asked every family I know about places on the mainland and they all say different areas. He asks says he asks but each place has its pitfall !
Anyway I went out and dh came along and I spent Eu140 in Bennetton and a bit more along the way and he diddn't even say boh ! ( all on the dd's ) am not sure if the jacket I bought her willo be warm enough in thick winter it is 50% pumino and 50% synthetic but it doesn't seem that thick !
I bet Da Mosto was in the thick of the funeral as he is a true Venetian with aPalazzo as well !Will read the papers domani to see what happened but Cacciari really doesn't give a sh*t .

Francasaysrelax · 14/11/2009 20:09

mmmmmmmmm I adore homemade gnocchi!!!

Rosa, well done with the shopping (without dh complaining about it)

Uffa, dh has monopolized the tv with the football.

OP posts:
JavierBardem · 14/11/2009 20:14

Why is Cacciari not helping? Surely they need to do something?

DaMosto gets a bit onmy nerves, but at least seems to care, boh, don't know enough...

Had an afternoon in town all to myself, very spoilt, mmmm, freedom!

JavierBardem · 14/11/2009 20:21

Rosa, I did wonder ages ago if you were Mrs Damosto, as I think he is married to an English woman...but I don't think he would be househunting in Mestre.....

When I lived in Venice it shocked me how few people there were, and how easy was to quickly get to know everybody,.... un villaggino really...

Penthesileia · 14/11/2009 21:05

Hi everyone.

Poor minipippi! What a brave girl. Glad she (and you!) are ok.

Just to let you all know I may be "away" for a bit... DH sat on my laptop and now the LCD screen is totally f**d. It's all kind of my fault as he couldn't see it, but I'm still furious... Big black blobs all over the screen. Not sure how long I'll be able to stand being online and having to scroll the screen up and down to actually read the pages; also, once I figure out how to get it fixed, it'll presumably be out of action for a while.

Quite apart from the damage it does to my MNing, it is a serious blow vis-a-vis my work. Sigh.

Boh.

Francasaysrelax · 14/11/2009 22:13

Oh bugger. Hope you get it sorted asap Penthe.
Is he feeling duly guilty?

OP posts:
JavierBardem · 15/11/2009 12:25

Hellooooo! Broken laptop, oh dear.....

I spent the morning looking at T Conran's House Handbook, but now wondering what the one on Kitchens is like....mmmmm.

Rosa · 15/11/2009 18:48

LOl at Mrs Da Mosto - He is about 4ft high and certainly not my type... Plus he has loads of cash .
Penthe can I see you hanging out in an internat cafe in order to keep up ????? Hope it gets repaired soon.
DD gone down with a temp again - Out of the blue at 12.00 had minirosa screaming as I had to stop feeding her and look after dd1 calpol , cuddles etc . Then it went up again at 7 ish this evening and same thing shivers, sore head - Both were having flu ( seasonal one) vaccine domani so I guess hers is off. Dh was out with the boys and he felt sooo guilty - He did come home ( after dolce) but he was in terra ferma so it was about 4 pm anayway !
