Hello, welcome, benvenuti

OP posts:

hey, just checking in quickly from work so you don't think i've fallen off the face of the earth.

partly detoxing (and is doing me good though i do miss you guys), partly i am just too tired in the evenings, partly i have a really good book to read and it's taking up lots of time.

so sorry everyone keeps being/getting sick. it really is a lazzaretto this year. i am ok apart from monster cold sore(s) and chronic sleep deprivation.

JB- yes, get involved in campaigning- it will do you good to feel you're active. my main problem is, while i despise DC and his cronies (and agree with Minerva that Osbourne is a scary prospect esp in the middle of an economic meltdown, and i have personal reasons to resent his manifesto commitments), i have almost no respect for the current government. i admire GB in many ways, on a personal level he's been through so much, but as a politician i think he is not doing the country any favours. and don't get me started on AD...

anyway, theoretical problem as i am leaving the sinking ship country, plus i don't have the right to vote here anyway...

Francasaysrelax · 19/11/2009 14:16

Minerva, that's a great idea about the star costume!!!

Camo, yes, mine are sharing a room, have done so since we moved back to italy. It's always worked out very well (but they were 5 and 3.5 when they started sharing). Dd usually falls asleep in 5 minutes, which didn't happen yesterday night because of monster cough.
Ds takes a bit longer (since last year's anxieties), but is usually asleep in 20 minutes. But yesterday he was kept awake by dd. Boh! Lets hope tonight is a bit better.

I like GB, even as a politician ! Mind you, compared to what we have here in Italy (apart from a very few), anyone shines
Do you know that the govt here wants to privatize the water? If anyone is interested in signing the petition against it, please, go here. Thanks!

Mine have shared a room since they were 3 ½ and 15 months, respectively. It works well because it means one bedtime. It?s very nice and cosy, we read books, cuddle, tell stories etc. yes they do distract each other a bit (and it has meant I am now staying with them till they fall asleep, which I had stopped doing for dd1 about a year ago), but on the whole I think it?s worth doing. I was worried they might wake each other up during their multiple and uncoordinated night wakings but it?s happened only very rarely. It does mean however that I never let dd2 cry longer than 30 seconds, but tbh I doubt I would even if she was in her own room?. And we do bed hop a lot in the mystic household so while they fall asleep in the same room they almost never wake up in the same room!

PippiHasALifeOfRiley · 19/11/2009 17:32

No sharing here, although I think they will like it. Boh. Maybe I'll try.

Rose and Camo how are you feeling?

JavierBardem · 19/11/2009 19:10

They share here, since dd was 6 months, it is great, they keep each other entertained in the morning if up before us, ds chats to her at night..., both they both fall asleep relatively quickly and have only ever fallen asleep in cot/bed alone, when dd sometimes cried when younger, we did leave her to cry for a quite a bit and it still would not wake ds. I love it! It always surprises me when dcs are not in the same room tbh....Camo give it a try for a couple of months, it would surprise me if it does not work. And transform the extra room in your secret den.

Not a fan of the current government but DC's lot are a big no no no....how do you think I could get involved in some very light campaigning? Any of you have any advice?

MM what are you reading? [nosy emoticon]

Francasaysrelax · 19/11/2009 19:46

Mine didn't share when we were in the UK, but it worked out equally well. In fact, dd used to sleep later in the morning, and that way ds didn't wake her up.

I think both ways are fine.

I'm reading this and enjoying it so far.

Can you vote for the general elections javier?

I saw your fiancee last friday, she was pretty ...

OP posts:
PippiHasALifeOfRiley · 19/11/2009 20:25

I've added it to my xmas wish list Franca.

I have never shared a room with anybody and never envied it but I can see how and why the dds would like it. Boh maybe I will try for a while.

JB car park was £12 btw.

Francasaysrelax · 19/11/2009 21:07

12? where were you pippi?

Dc fell asleep with no probs today. Boh!

I've never shared with db either. But, when I was 7sh I used to fall asleep in my mum's bed !

Franca I have been busy getting stuck in traffic driving around London seeing friends and hiding mess tidying up afterwards. Also problems at home with DB.
Trying to detox from laptopas well eventhough I do not spend much time on it. I still wish I could read/write/watch good movies more, the usual dilemma really but here I am.

PippiHasALifeOfRiley · 19/11/2009 21:15

Ah did you mean where was I to spend £12 to park the car for four hours? You'd think Harrods at those prices but no East London to meet JB, which is priceless!

Francasaysrelax · 19/11/2009 21:18

Oh sorry didn't mean to be nosey!!!

I don't know, it is impossible to watch telly here, and there is no dvd rental like lovefilms, so the computer for me is pure escapism.

OP posts:
Francasaysrelax · 19/11/2009 21:20

It's probably as expensive as the tube though!

OP posts:
PippiHasALifeOfRiley · 19/11/2009 21:25

Not nosey. Just me being thick.
Tube not that far off actually. The good thing of driving is that minipippi is strapped and sleeps and I can think my own thought and listen to radio/music in peace - priceless.
Tube is also relaxing but needs more effort with minipippi who does not lke to sit and watch her fellow traveller like big pippi. he likes to walk up and down, swing around the poles and climb on the seats (not allowed). A lot more hard work.

Francasaysrelax · 19/11/2009 21:29

Oh yes, thinking your own thoughts is priceless!!!

I used to walk for miles and miles when ds was a baby. I put him in his pram/stroller and off we went. It was the only way I found time to think my own thoughts!!!

OP posts:
PippiHasALifeOfRiley · 19/11/2009 21:40

Yes every waking hour is full of things to do of thoughts of things to do: shopping, presents for children's party, expenses, dinner, etc that there is no time just to sit and think about things. I miss boredom sometimes. I have not been bored for a long time.
I wish to be on my own for a couple of days. I long for SILENCE. (Dh is snoring so loudly next to me I am going to club him in a minute !).

PippiHasALifeOfRiley · 19/11/2009 21:41

Off to read in bed. Night night.

Francasaysrelax · 19/11/2009 21:48

'night my dear.

Oh expenses. I have to pay takes in 10 days time. Uffa!

Playing catch-up too- most of the week has been taken up by sorting out the aftermath of the purse theft- with which I will not bore you.

V interested by the political discussion: interesting how we all seem to share distaste for DC. I, too, like GB on a personal level, but politically he is not helping. And his lot are not much better than the dreaded blues- most of what they do seems to be pandering to the swing voters, the opinion polls and the tabloid headlines rather than getting on with what needs to be done.

Problem is what to do about it- being non-British I cannot vote here and therefore also feel disenfranchised/unable to do much active politics. However, according to Radio 4 this morning this will be the Mumsnet election, so perhaps my best shot at political activism is through posting in the various fora in here...

PippiHasALifeOfRiley · 20/11/2009 10:25

Yes DC is not on my list of favorites either. I do like GB and I feel sorry for him because he was left with a real mess of a country on so many levels that a superhero was the only thing that could have saved it in the way we wanted/expected. I am not keen on most of his party either but for me it feels a no brainer anyway. I cannot believe we might be a blue country soon. Most of my life in England has been under Labour and I saw so many improvements and great reforms.

Having been Naturalised I can vote and I will vote. Hope mine and Jb's will swing it .

minervaitalica · 20/11/2009 10:49

Argh - I just found myself on a thread kind of defending DC - but he was being berated for his rich background as opposed to anything around policies.

What makes me cross is that I would love to be able to have this kind of debate around Italian politicians, but the average is so low that just thinking about the arguments makes me depressed.

Went to the local new IKEA yesterday. It was hilarious to see Italians gathering in the food section buying Swedish meatballs, rosti, spiced Xmas biscuits etc etc. Is IKEA going to break the locals' natural scepticism of foreign food?

JavierBardem · 20/11/2009 10:53

Oh, yes I can vote. It is the JB and Pippi election!!!!!!

I want to change my name, want to dump JB.

JavierBardem · 20/11/2009 10:54

I guess a background like DC's might make it hard for him to have empathy towards the less privileged.

I need a name...

PippiHasALifeOfRiley · 20/11/2009 11:00

Here you are JB. I have just out minipippi to bed and enjoy my cuppa and crumpets. Only a few minutes then I am off, hopefully!

Yes you do need to dump JB. Need a female name methink.

Have started book Stabat Mater. Very good fr now. Short. Will lend it to you with the other one. It is Ginzburg after.

Shall we meet just with the bigJB and bigpippi next time. I fancy a tube journey with no pram and be able to sit and chat without having to check minipippi giving a black eye to anybody .

AntonioGramsci · 20/11/2009 11:02

Here is my new revolutionary self!!!!!

Pippi, sorry about the expense, a rip off really. But glad to know I am worth 12 quid!!!!

Yes, me too, not bored, too much on and too many interests. Also like I told Pippi trying to spend less time in general on the computer, I don't want escapism, I want to think more and achieve things. [ambitious emoticon]

I watched a great movie last night Una giornata particolare di Ettore Scola, beautiful 1930s details. With Sofia Loren and Mastroianni.
