No work today. Been pretty hungover so haven't done much. Read my Muse book, cooked for the family (pork in a cider sauce) and watched Strictly.
What you been up to today?

The comedy club was very good. I must see more live comedy.
I'm thinking of taking up karate. Am I mad? DS1 already does it and DS2 will be starting in January. DS1's sensei runs an adult class I could join.

Did nothing much yesterday. Today is "The day we tackle dd's bedroom". Wish us luck.

Karate doesn't appeal to me (too much history with Thai Boxing), but I think you should go for it! Especially as ds does it already.

Woohoo! My sister's got tickets to see Biffy Clyro tomorrow night and asked if I want to go (and to the after-show party!)
It'll almost be like being a young 'un again
Did you get DD's room under control?

oggsfrog · 19/10/2009 21:25

Ooh, lucky you!! I love Biffy Clyro. The after-show party too .

No... it was a close run battle, but we were beat into submission once again.

When my sister mentioned the after-show party, my first thought was 'but I have to be up to get the boys ready for school'.
I'm so old

I'll have to have a Biffy Clyro crash course tomorrow. I only really know The Captain and That Golden Rule (XFM staples).

I don't know them that well (only what I hear on the radio when I'm out in the car) but they have a very distinctive sound and are instantly recognisable.
I like Mountains

Groooooooaaaaaaan. Sooooooo tired.
I got home at 3am after a ridiculous two-hour epic journey from central London via many buses.
The gig was great and was preceded by a drinks party thrown by Warner with plenty of free drink and food. My sis and I got through a whole bottle of Prosecco in just over an hour . Then on to the venue where we were on the band's guest list. Sadly we were seated (looked so much more fun in the standing area downstairs).
The band were good but i didn't know that many of their songs, just the three off the new album.
There was an after-show party, which was rubbish and the band weren't even there. But I did meet a DJ I listen to all the time on XFM. I marched over and introduced myself
Left there about 1am for the long trek home. I was soooo glad to finally get into my bed. I went back to bed after getting the boys ready for school. My new iPhone arrived and I didn't even look at it, I was that knackered.
I'm too old for all this. Can't take the pace.

You're past it Lyra . It's hot cups of cocoa and slippers by the fire from now on for you .

I'll have to google iphone but I presume it's a phone with internet access?

I went to buy a laptop today! The sales guy at PCWorld talked me out of it though

Talked you out of it? Not a very good salesman
Yes, the iphone does everything. Surf the net, play music (my entire itunes library is on it), take and store photos. It's even got a thingummy which allows you to pinpoint on a map exactly where you are, and then you can types in Starbucks or petrol station or something and it will give you a walking/driving/bus route to the nearest one. it truly is amazing. I can watch youtube clips, get instant weather forecasts, you name it, it does it. And it's all touch screen. it has to be seen to be believed.

Sounds fantastic!

He talked me out of it because the one I was going to buy was loaded with Vista and with the big launch of Windows 7 tomorrow he said I could get a better deal then .

Trouble is now I'm worried that I won't be able to connect to the internet on it, and that is the whole point of me getting one.. I don't know how on earth I go about it. Our access is via satellite and I don't see anywhere I could connect it to...

If it's a wireless signal your new laptop should be able to connect to it.
Can you take it back if it doesn't work?

Report
oggsfrog · 22/10/2009 10:46

It's not a wireless signal. It's via satellite and a physical cable and transmitter.
Haven't a clue who to even ask.

Getting somewhere.
I will need a wireless router apparently. I need to connect the satellite transmitter to the router, and the router to the pc. Then I should be able to use a laptop wirelessly.
It will affect the speed by about 30% which is quite a bit considering how slow we are.

Now just need to decide whether to go for the more expensive one with new Windows 7 or try and get a cheaper one with XP or Vista on.

LyraSilvertongue · 22/10/2009 17:41

Depends what you want to do with it. if it's just internet surfing and fairly basic stuff, I'd go with the older, cheaper one.

Report
oggsfrog · 22/10/2009 17:51

I'm thinking that way too. I've never had any gripes about XP or Vista so think I will go with older and cheaper. Also looking at a refurbished one.
Don't really want to buy off Ebay incase there's a prob with it.

Am now wearer of varifocals and sheesh, they take a lot of adapting to.
