Welcome, ciao, hello

It's interesting: there are a few posters I feel the same way about - they can really wind me up, but I respect and like their forthrightness, honesty, consistency (ie. they're not chameleonic like some posters, who say one thing in one place, and another in the next, IYSWIM), and - more often than not - their intelligent wit!

I like that about Mumsnet: people who initially you wouldn't think you would get on with, you come to like quite a lot. It's a good thing to learn.

francagoestohollywood · 18/02/2009 10:51

Yes, I see what you mean. I do agree with some of her feminist stances, but she often takes them to the extreme, which I don't agree with.

Rosa, ds has had chicken pox already, when he was 2 and a half (and gave it to me ), but very mildly. Hope he won't get it again. mmm what are you cooking? It's me and dd, I haven't a clue today. Maybe a bistecchina.

OP posts:
francagoestohollywood · 18/02/2009 10:52

Yes, totally agree penthe

OP posts:
Penthesileia · 18/02/2009 10:56

Also, I tend to find that these posters (BonsoirAnna, CoteDAzur, ScottishMummy, I'm thinking of in particular. Xenia too.) never indulge - at least as far as I've seen - in the self-righteous, holier-than-thou bleating and bitchiness which happens, especially on AIBU threads. I respect that.

francagoestohollywood · 18/02/2009 11:06

Yes, I find that too. They also take it on their chin. Anna is very nice, I met her in rl twice !

OP posts:
Penthesileia · 18/02/2009 11:10

Exactly. I think their posts convey an impressively secure and clear sense of self. Interesting.

Have you?! Cool. I like reading her posts.

francagoestohollywood · 18/02/2009 11:14

Yes. The first time in Milan. Me and Brangelina took her to a posh bar and realized we didn't have the money to pay the bill ! And I met her in Paris, she made me spend money on children's clothes.

OP posts:
Rosa · 18/02/2009 11:14

Yes rst beef steak for dh and me ( I forgot I defrosted them yesterday) and dd1 probably pasta with something simple. I was going to do something interesting with veg maybe like a gratin but I only have carrots and potatoes! Oh well never mind.
I avoid AIBU threads and ff/ bf and blw ones simply as I hate the 'attacks' that people get . I also feel I cannot be bothered to do battle I like the relaxed feel of things and some discussions - Yep I have different opinions to others mine might be right or they might be wrong but who am I to shout or attack others as they feel differently to me ?
Unless we are talking about G Fratello or X Factor and then I say you are all totally MAD for watching them

francagoestohollywood · 18/02/2009 11:17

lol. Ah you are lovely rosa (snuggles up to rosa)

Gratin eh? Very interesting. I always forget about gratin, but it is good. I love potatoes, with left over cheeses and bits of bacon strips.... (not healthy, I agree)

OP posts:
Penthesileia · 18/02/2009 11:17

I think that's the right attitude, Rosa! I try to adopt it myself, though some things I just can't let go...

Must be more sanguine...

franca - so she's an enabler!

francagoestohollywood · 18/02/2009 11:20

Yes, me too... as I said, there are some discussions that never fail to attract me... like hoovers...

OP posts:
francagoestohollywood · 18/02/2009 11:21

not discussions re hoovers though. I meant discussion that "hoover" you in... I don't make much sense, do I

OP posts:
Penthesileia · 18/02/2009 11:26

For a moment there I thought I'd discovered your secret, weird fetish!

Ok - off out. Catch you all later.

francagoestohollywood · 18/02/2009 11:30

at going out. Looks like I'll be stuck home all day. Luckily, I'm working tomorrow.

OP posts:
DamonBradleylovesPippi · 18/02/2009 12:27

penthe you evil one . at that article! did not imagine her like that at all! more like a rottenmeier type. I'm quite impressed actually by how young she is and house obviously. good on her!

I'm holding myself to make further comments ... as I am sure that some MNetters like promoting this persona which is flawless, always on top of things, strong and aloof. they get hated by all others because: 1. it feels as if they look down on everyone else and are judgemental 2. it's obvious it is a facade 3. they are too black and white
however once you realise that it is so easy on an internet forum to show just a selection of oneself (whether real or not) you leave them be.
I'm sure in RL they are a lot more 'fragmented', insecure, messy, needy like everyone else, and therefore likable (like franca proved).
so for me is 'each to their own' and I've stopped getting wind up by such simple and one sided views of life.

amen!

shall I feed my kids now?

francagoestohollywood · 18/02/2009 12:49

Have fed mine, but she wasn't that hungry. The number of spots is increasing.

OP posts:
DamonBradleylovesPippi · 18/02/2009 12:52

franca forgot to say, poor dd. however better now than later and certainly during easter when you planned to go away, no? my dd was all right with it, only a pita before the spots.

francagoestohollywood · 18/02/2009 12:58

Thanks Pippi . She is just a bit disappointed as at nursery they were getting everything ready to celebrate carnevale next week (they are making costumes + other things, they are keeping secret about!)

OP posts:
Rosa · 18/02/2009 13:33

Isn't now the worst time with the spots until they burst- Can highly suggest Aloe vera ( pure) when they do go dry and scabby ! Calamine lotion is superb as well but no idea if you can get it here!
Poor dd I think my dd has also been doing masks I know only as it said so on the schedule !!! They will be having a party but genitori are not invited to this one !!
Is there varicella in the nido as well or is your dd the first ?
I have to do un sacco di things for the commune as am off to ask for my maternity cheque I think the only thing they don't want a copy of is my M&S card blimey its sooooo Italian !!!

Brangelina · 18/02/2009 13:43

Porr Franca's DD, chickenpox isn't much fun. I can recommend the stuff they gave me at the pharmacy when DD had it - some kind of tannin solution (a white lotion in a bottle), as well as a bath with a teabag (ideally green tea) the day after the "peak" day. At least your DD is no longer in nappies, so there is a positive side.

Did you really meet Anna in Paris? Damn, you should have offered her an aperitivo from me, I'd have given you the money later. I'm still embarrassed from when she came over.

Rosa, I've finally posted those things off, sorry for the delay.

Where's the Xenia thread? Is there a picture of her house?

Got to pop out in a minute to find a grembiule for DD's costume for tomorrow. So, it seems that Monza doesn't do carnevale ambrosiano...

francagoestohollywood · 18/02/2009 14:20

Have fell asleep on the sofa while watching Charlie and Lola with dd ! I'm knackered, thanks to ds night time shenanigans (is this the right word?). See? Parenting is evil. You think you are finished with night waking and then something goes wrong again

Thanks for the suggestions . She is not scratching as yet, and doesn't have too many spots. She is an a fairy good mood. I asked the teacher yesterday (when I a single spot on her belly appeared) and there is an epidemia in her scuola materna...

Brange, has monza done the same as Milan? The comune here approved the bloody decreto gelmini, cutting the hrs of compresenze at scuola materna ... so from next sept it'll be adieu to most of the activities they do there. Shame...

See? She is here now, and she's itchy. arggggggggggggggggggggggggg

OP posts:
javierbardem · 18/02/2009 14:48

ciao ragazze, franca run to get calamine or equivalent, in case she goes mad with hte itching.

i seem to be ill too, headache and achy, unfotunately still have an appetite, was hoping to lose weight....

francagoestohollywood · 18/02/2009 15:00

I lost a bit of weight with the flu over christmas, but it crept back.
Mum's here, so I'll go get ds and raid the farmacia. Dd's now asleep

OP posts:
Rosa · 18/02/2009 15:04

oh no the itching - warm bath with baby oil . Jumping dry rather than rubbing ( or patting). Let her wear loose clotes like a big t shirt of yours or dh !
I have spent 1 hr trying to get a stampa of our estratto conto online I need it up to 31/12/08 I get all the movimenti but not the saldo on the 31st - DH who hates carta rips up the bank statements as he says they are all online so I am getting so angry as I have been saying for weeks I need all this info. He is out with a mate and my apt is 9am domani so I can't pop into the bank x strada. He says its tutto la xche non lo vede? ( with tone that I am donna stupida).
Pazienza oh and dd1 has decided no more naps so there goes my free time ...
