Penthe, dont' you worry that house prices will go down even more? True about rates though....

Thomas Bernard is a German writer, Kundera, used to love him when i was younger, now i could not read him, will see if i can think of someone else..

hothell · 04/02/2009 19:42

Oh tantink you are so close to giving birth, very jealous...

hothell · 04/02/2009 20:00

Bruno Schultz, the street of cocodriles, a classic, though i have not read it, on my list though.

SunflowerNeedsSunshine · 04/02/2009 20:29

just bookmarning, will be back later...

beforesunrise · 04/02/2009 20:50

hello everyone buonasera! i feel i can tackle a new thread, had totally lost track of the old one plus i saw you started to talk about sports, i am soooo unbelievably useless at all sports, as a child i developed psychosomatic migraines to avoid going to tennis, gymnastics etc. i am not going to push my dds to do anyhting, although dd1 at least shows signs of being rather physical so i may have to rethink that a bit! but she's only 3 (in 10 days!!!) so nothing yet, just slides and swings at the local park and whizzing around on her scooter.

well i went back to work yesterday- a bit of a really! i feel so tired i can barely keep my eyes open, let alone string an intelligent sentence together. it's really tough. i miss my girls, and even the lure of wearing nice clean clothes is not enough. i desperately want to get a full night's sleep and then i feel i might tackle work...

sorry i am a bit incoherent, actually time to grab a shower and then to bed, but i just wanted to say hi before you all forget me!

Rosa · 04/02/2009 20:56

BS good luck and have fun at work - I bet it is hard and I am sure that you miss your dc.
I know hot -Tantik at 32 weeks I was rough the last few weeks so I don't miss that but I miss not going through it all again ...
DO you realise with this thread we reach 10,000 messages not bad really and we haven't had any arguments ...YET !
We have full day out tom and then friday it is all go and I must clean the house in the am - then fest atime in the pm.
Off to fold the washing and stuff in already full ironing basket - I never did manage it I got waylaid by something !

francagoestohollywood · 04/02/2009 20:56

, beforesunrise, I totally forgot you were going back to work, sorry. It must be really hard to change your "lifestyle" from one day to another, just like that! But I really hope you'll find the strength to come and say hello to us (and talk rev road!)

Ragazze, we have a sleep problem. Out of the blue ds struggles at falling asleep. He's been calling me for nearly 1 hr and a half today. He says that he can't fall asleep and gets in quite a state. He says that he has no patience to wait to fall asleep. This is been going on for nearly 2 weeks, and today is the worst.
He is six, and up until now he'd sleep from 8.30sh to 7.30.

Thanks for starting the thread, franca!

hot - well, a little... But we sort of got a good deal, I think, even if prices fall. I will tell you all more about it when/if it all goes ahead (don't want to jinx it or be gazumped!); it's actually something of a Grand Designs sort of thing... Scary...

Hey beforesunrise - back to work! Gosh... Are you ok?

Penthesileia · 04/02/2009 20:58

Oh, poor DS and poor franca!

Hmm - is he in his own room, or does he share with DD?

francagoestohollywood · 04/02/2009 21:02

He is sharing with dd (who is asleep despite the situation). We have a routine that's been set in stone for ages, and he's been falling asleep on his own since he was 4 (it was a long road to get there).
We asked him repeatedly if there's anything wrong at school and he says no. I wonder.

Penthesileia · 04/02/2009 21:05

Do you have any story tapes? I used to listen to some in the dark when I was little and couldn't sleep (I still did until about 4 years ago , though by then I'd graduated to Blackadder... ). I had terrible sleeping problems for years - on and off. I used to read into the night with a torch...

Is he going through a big intellectual 'jump' at the moment? I find it hardest to sleep when I've done a lot and have a lot of things/ideas on my mind.

francagoestohollywood · 04/02/2009 21:13

Story tapes are a great idea. The big problem is that he is sharing with his sister, and while he might need less hours sleep, she still needs more.
Not sure if he's going through a big intellectual jump. Quit the contrary I'd say . He was doing very well (to Italian standards) until Christmas, and now he seems to be "regressing" a bit (in his writing. Reading is getting better, but tbh I was expecting it'd have clicked by now)

OP posts:
hothell · 04/02/2009 21:13

Grand design? sigh.....

francagoestohollywood · 04/02/2009 21:14

At his age I had terrible "fears" and went to sleep with my mum. Later, I got used to fall asleep in my bed, but it took me ages to fall asleep. I've always been a night creature, always loved to sleep in the morning.

OP posts:
francagoestohollywood · 04/02/2009 21:15

Rosa . Do you want an argument? I think we are too used to each other now to get into a proper argument . Or not????

OP posts:
hothell · 04/02/2009 21:16

are you getting on well with him? maybe he is feeling the pressure, getting down about not getting the writing/reading like his mates and has unconsciously decided to regress to when he was little and he had his mummy helping him to sleep and there was no school pressure?

hothell · 04/02/2009 21:18

grand design is on now!!! they seem to be putting together a prefab house...

francagoestohollywood · 04/02/2009 21:18

well, tbh, I'm not sure I'm the best mother for ds's personality . Yes, maybe he is regressing a bit. What shall I do?

OP posts:
Penthesileia · 04/02/2009 21:19

Could you get him an ipod shuffle (about £40 here so not too expensive) and download stories, etc., onto it each night? That way he could wear headphones and not disturb DD.

My DH also was terribly afraid at night; PILs ended up getting him a dog. Probably not a solution for you...

Penthesileia · 04/02/2009 21:20

I'm sure you're an amazing mum, franca. All people have sleeping problems at some point or other. Don't beat yourself up about it.

francagoestohollywood · 04/02/2009 21:21

lol, he'd love a dog . I think dh must have a portable cd player hidden somewhere.
I think I'm a crap mother for ds.

OP posts:
francagoestohollywood · 04/02/2009 21:22

That's true Penthe, that's true. Maybe I should be more "unconditional" (what a crap word, btw )

OP posts:
francagoestohollywood · 04/02/2009 21:22

that's true that people have sleep problems at some point

OP posts:
Penthesileia · 04/02/2009 21:23

Is he a touchy-feely type of little boy? Could you go in and sit with him in the dark and stroke his hair until he falls asleep? Maybe that - after a few days - will make him confident about sleeping again when he remembers that he can relax and sleep.

My cousin and I used to take turns brushing each other's hair to sleep when we were little and sharing a bed when we stayed over at each other's houses. I still find it very soothing.

Rosa · 04/02/2009 21:27

Rosa digs out the boxing gloves.....

Franca could it be the swimming or something he doesn't like ( I am guessing here)I remember you said in the past he was very competetive and wanted to be the best in everything is he impatient at times ? Hence he is being impatient about wanting to fall asleep therefore not relaxing and letting his body let him fall asleep. Can you not get him on of those book lights so he could read - music is another great idea. Remember what it was like when he was 4 and what you did then . I hope it is nothing deeper as you sound worried.
I must go to bed as I know I will need all my wits about me in the morning and we all have to be out of the house by 8.15 - easy I hear you all say ....Not in my household as minirosa will poo at the last minute dd1 will empty the bags I have packed when I put the last things in and turn my back and dh will loose his driving licence and car keys - I have already put them together by his cellulare !
