Welcome, ciao, hello

LOL Bucharest. Thanks - that makes me feel a little better.

Truth be told, it's all rather scary: my entire working life, I've done everything at the last moment. If I do say so myself, I am exceptional at doing things at the last moment. And 99% of the time, I pull it off: I can even give a lecture basically from memory, with only a few notes, if I've read the material just beforehand. I can cram days of work into a few hours (if I had been more organised, I would be running the world, obviously). Now, all this sounds like I'm blowing my own trumpet. But I'm not, because it's a crap way to do your job, as I have to do everything over again the next time. And now I have a baby - well - that kind of working style is never going to work again.

I am screwed.

Penthesileia · 17/02/2009 17:08

Wow! Just read that Tessa Jowell's husband's been sentenced to 4 years in prison! A tiny crack in Berlusconi's armour?

francagoestohollywood · 17/02/2009 17:09

. What Bucharest said .

Penthe, like you, I've always been a last minute person. I used to function very well on it, and I amazingly did very well in exams etc as well. But I noticed, in time, that my "last minute" habit has become more and more radical (it is really last minute!) and it is becoming very stressing.

Looks like I'm going to be alone the whole pomeriggio. Ds went to swimming lessons and will be home late (7.30), and dd is staying at friend's for dinner. I'm feeling alone!

No, I didn't buy anything for myself, but I did spend an awful amount of time stroking a Marni coat !

DamonBradleylovesPippi · 17/02/2009 17:10

penthe no, no one manages to do anything while on mat leave. esp with first baby. somehow with two is easier I find as they enetertain eachother and one has got the hang of it (it took me 3 years to get it!).

javier yes my dd1 talked all the way too - a classic! journey was perfect. more people helping that on the way in (bloody grumpy white collar city workers).

forgot to say javier the return ticket from subirbiatown to the childhood museum was 10pounds. unbelievable!!!

francagoestohollywood · 17/02/2009 17:11

Penthe, nothing seems to crack B's armour. They have just one the regional elections in Sardinia , I don't understand

francagoestohollywood · 17/02/2009 17:12

10 pounds! cazzarola!

OP posts:
francagoestohollywood · 17/02/2009 17:13

DamonBradleylovesPippi · 17/02/2009 17:13

I am a last minute person as well by nature. however like I said I had to learn to organise things in advance otherwise it's a mess and it ain't happening!! like I said it took 3 years. it doesn;t aleways work though.

A M (dd1 writing)

Penthesileia · 17/02/2009 17:13

It is so depressing. How can the Italian electorate support someone who awards themselves immunity from the law?

Penthesileia · 17/02/2009 17:14
DamonBradleylovesPippi · 17/02/2009 17:15

yes franca. it's official I am not a real londoner !! why why why didn;t I win the lottery and bought that place in bloomsbury... ahhh sad life .

will check the link in a min penthe. I am so glad though. is 4 byears enough though?

francagoestohollywood · 17/02/2009 17:17

I don't know! And tbh, it is not just that! I mean this is a government implementing racist measures, insulting the Presidente della Repubblica, licking the Vatican's arse, cutting money from the state school system and adopting paternalistic pedagogic measures, not caring a bit about the environment, and I could go on and on and on. And they still win.

OP posts:
DamonBradleylovesPippi · 17/02/2009 17:21

unfortunately (and please do not judge me for it, just shows why I left) I know a lot of people who have voted for him. and to me it seems that these people care only about themselves and their little world and B promised (whether he delivered to them or not I am not sure - he must as they voted for him over and over again) to make things better for them.
I could compare them with the DM's readers.

Penthesileia · 17/02/2009 17:22

Two suggestions for why he wins:

  • (some/many) Italians respect/admire/aspire to be a person who flaunts the law, who has balls, and who makes it big
  • amongst some/many Italians there is underlying hysteria and misunderstanding about 'the left' in Italy: e.g. my PIL thinks anything left of Berlusconi is basically communism, and gets all worked up with it.

DamonBradleylovesPippi · 17/02/2009 17:26

perfect penthe.

Penthesileia · 17/02/2009 17:29

DD1 has an acute political mind; her analysis of the B government's success is admirable.

francagoestohollywood · 17/02/2009 17:30

oh well done minipippi

And another reason: the opposition (and it hurts saying it as a left winger) is pathetic

OP posts:
francagoestohollywood · 17/02/2009 17:31

Pippi, yes, I think you should post on the gifted and talented threads

Brangelina · 17/02/2009 18:43

What?! Are all you lot on holiday? Chatting at preparing dinner time!

Just popping in briefly before having to tidy up madly because DP's invited people over for later and buggered off to the gym. I'm totally knackered, due to being out the last 2 nights and DD having a major pukefest yesterday, meaning great changing of sheets at 3am, 4am, 5am.... then I had to leave at 6am for a meeting in bloody Brescia. My flat looks like a tendopoli with all the bedlinen drying, there is dried food encrusted in the kitchen from DP doing the cooking yesterday and and and.... aaargh!

Brangelina · 17/02/2009 18:45

Oh, and happy birthday Rosa!

Must go, DD is trying to do unspeakable things to the cat food.

Will read thread later when have more time.
