Welcome back ladies.

Anyone up for a spot of competitive baking?

Thought we might kick off with the classic Lemon Drizzle Cake but with a twist. Not only will this test out baking skills, but a fair wodge of points will be awarded for selection and photography of said cake somewhere nice.

I will be inviting the MN Patron of the LDC, MarsLady to be this weeks judge.

So rules are.

Make a LDC. Recipe here

Take cake to somewhere outdoorsy and pleasant on the eye, or historical.

Photograph cake.

Eat cake (optional).

Photograph cake being eaten (optional).

Upload photos here.
Username: MNLDC
Password:mumsnet

Entries are anonymous (as per usual).

Deadline for entries is next sunday (16th) by 10pm.**All rules are subject to change by the judge and whoever puts up a good argument for having them changed.

Think that's it. Anyone fancy it?

Newcomers always welcome.

Thanks for the link merdien, I did have a look but didn't spot it before I posted

Got to it just in time I see, ds is at nursery all day tomorrow so I can have a peaceful go at it

Slubberdegullion · 12/09/2007 14:58

Hi MrsFish, nice to see you back. Are you on the home straight yet...or have I missed a birth announcement?

MrsFish · 12/09/2007 15:47

Hi there. I'm on the home straight, due on the 30th

Slubberdegullion · 13/09/2007 11:13

My effort is just out of oven. Looks OK smells . Hopefully the sun will come out this arvo when I take it on its sightseeing trip.

Last night's RL WI was fab. Absolutely hilarious, we think MN is a nest of gossipy vipers sometimes...these ladies are phD level in snippity comments made with a smile . Not that anyone was mean to me, blimey have never had so many ladies well into their 70's ask me if I wanted a cup of tea.

And the pudding demonstrator made a joke about penis's whilst cutting up a banana.

And we sang Jerusalem to start (I misted up a bit).

Didn't win the jar of nescafe in the raffle though .

I am SO going to join (so long as my mate joins with me)...not brave enough yet to join the 'Stute alone.

decided to make LDC this morning as going ona picnic at chatsworth farmyard today... then noticed DH had used the last of the eggs to make his breakfast yesterday morning. no time to nip to the shops i can take a cupcake on tour but thats not the same will see if i can sort something out for sunday morning as supposed to get to go somewhere as dh has no weddings sunday (he is a photographer) so can have a nice family day out for once.

Slubberdegullion · 13/09/2007 11:25

Bloody men eating the eggs. Will they never learn to check if we need them for baking efforts.

A sunday morning trip out with your family and LDC sounds nice though.

My effort is just out of the oven too. Made a cake and some individual cupcakes... just to taste of course so I don;t have to wait to cut the bigger one up

Now, where am I going to take it for a photo or two... I need the sun to come out too

Slubberdegullion · 13/09/2007 13:31

Damn, I drizzled in haste and now my ldc has a case of the pox. Curses upon curses.

ChippyMinton · 13/09/2007 13:32

haha poor you

Slubberdegullion · 13/09/2007 14:20

oooh Chippy, fancy crossing out, how'dya do that then?

I will have to hope that the magnificent natural vista I have chosen will draw the judges eye away from the icing sugar vescicles.

OP posts:
ChippyMinton · 13/09/2007 14:22

Look in the box at the bottom for the crossing out info.
WTF is a vescicle - a variant of icicle?

Peachy · 13/09/2007 14:23

Ooh will try this

have ideal sites near me (could sue bloody garden but that needs a mow LOL)

Slubberdegullion · 13/09/2007 14:23

I just saw it, what fun, new MN toys.

A vescicle is the correct term for a pox spot.

Oooh LDC assistant (photographic) has just arrived, better be off.

(in case thats ounds like i am bigging up my garden, I am not- its awful- I live within an old Roman barracks )

ChippyMinton · 13/09/2007 14:36

peachy that sounds interesting - have you ruins in the garden?

Peachy · 13/09/2007 14:39

No, its almost 4 minutes walk to the amphitheatre, museum, baths, barracks though..... . We even have touring gladiators come over in the early summer!

ChippyMinton · 13/09/2007 14:49

I have googled your town - looks like a lovely town. We have plans to visit a relative in Newport sometime, and DS1 is getting into the Romans, so might be a good place to visit?

I must go and buy some lemons now

Peachy · 13/09/2007 14:51

A great palce to visit- let me know if you come over, I shall burn bake a cake

MrsFish · 13/09/2007 15:16

Not sure where I am going to photograph mine yet... especially where there will be no people to look at me as if I am mad At least I have a few days to think about it

Meridian · 13/09/2007 17:58

my dh says he will bring me some eggs home, but its a little late now. It can wait till sunday though maybe and then i can make him take pictures of it (food porn) before he is allowed to decimate it.

Meridian · 14/09/2007 13:24

ok I have eggs I have lemons all set to bake today and now I have poorly ds with a poorly throat so he hasn't gone to pre-school today. which means i have an exceptionally messy house and no time to bake.. though strangely I have time to be mucking about on here.

Slubberdegullion · 14/09/2007 16:25

All done, but have LDC no 2 in the freezer in case I get the urge to do a re-shoot over the w/e.

Had to shift a woman who was sitting on 'the rock' upon which I needed to place LDC for the required money shot.

"Excuse me please, I wonder if you would mind moving, I, er, need to put a Lemon Drizzle Cake on that rock, to photograph it, er for a competition, an online cake fantasy WI competition that is".

She pulled an almost identical look to this and edged away slowly.

Just checking in on you all.

It's correct..... I will and can judge the lemony zestiness of a cake!

Looking forward to your entries!

MrsFish · 14/09/2007 17:38

I took a few pictures today, but hoping to get some better ones tomorrow, and its supposed to be sunny tomorrow too
