Swagger Inn 158 - Weather Turning Chilly - It’s Important To Layer Up - HBFs To The Rescue

Layering up is indeed the best way to stay warm as the weather turns chilly. Fortunately HBFs also come with cloaks and coats which makes them doubly effective Grin

Sounds like an excellent day Wicked. Less so for your downpour Fancy and soggy cats.

Have done the opticians thing with DS2. Am very glad I don’t have to pay for his glasses. Also he’s still not done any homework and he’s got tons. So we’ve got home and DH said “yes of course you can play football”.

Fuck it. Pass the bottle opener.

Nice chill-out day there Wicked

at super-absorbant FancyCat Grin

I have been digging up potatoes with a torch, because I forgot to earlier.

Oh - and we watched the Ghosterbusters reboot this afternoon - perfectly acceptable fun (DS was literally ROFL at times), and I loved the cameos from the original cast Grin

ApricotCrush · 10/11/2018 17:48

Evening wenches. Went to town with DD this afternoon, forgot about the painful hip when I agreed to go, but the exercise was probably good for it.

Yay for new car Helen. I still find things on mine that I didn't know about. Confused

I saw Jonnie Peacock too and thought of Fancy.

Grin at HBI.

We're going out with friends tonight so won't be able to watch Strictly.

LetUsPrey · 10/11/2018 18:48

I do like the Ghostbusters reboot Helen. Also loving the thought of you digging potatoes by torchlight!

Very important to keep those hips flexed Apricot . Have a lovely time tonight. I’ll keep your judge’s seat warm next to me.

Oh dear, I seem to have spilled something. I need a towel. Where or where could I find one? Oh look Grin

OP posts:
SisterHelenoftheEternalCatchUp · 10/11/2018 20:49

“A towel, [The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy] says, is about the most massively useful thing an interstellar hitchhiker can have. Partly it has great practical value. You can wrap it around you for warmth as you bound across the cold moons of Jaglan Beta; you can lie on it on the brilliant marble-sanded beaches of Santraginus V, inhaling the heady sea vapors; you can sleep under it beneath the stars which shine so redly on the desert world of Kakrafoon; use it to sail a miniraft down the slow heavy River Moth; wet it for use in hand-to-hand-combat; wrap it round your head to ward off noxious fumes or avoid the gaze of the Ravenous Bugblatter Beast of Traal (such a mind-boggingly stupid animal, it assumes that if you can't see it, it can't see you); you can wave your towel in emergencies as a distress signal, and of course dry yourself off with it if it still seems to be clean enough.”

LetUsPrey · 10/11/2018 21:01

I love the towel bit from HHGTTG! I mentioned always having your towel with you at work this last week (wench hive mind in action again). I just got blank looks unsurprisingly.

Philistines letus Shock
My personal favourite is the babel fish

LetUsPrey · 10/11/2018 21:29

Also this week on Thursday (when it was all going a bit crap) “This must be Thursday. I never could get the hang of Thursdays”.

Watching the Festival of Remembrance on BBC1. Having a bit of a sniffle.

OP posts:
SisterHelenoftheEternalCatchUp · 10/11/2018 21:46

My old car had a babel fish warning light. Apparently it was actually an engine management thing indicating an unspecified fault that needed to be diagnosed, but it looked like a babel fish to me. Grin

DH has just put cat biscuits into their bowls. Stupid Cat practically fell off my lap in her haste to get there. Hmm Grin

Hope that apricot is having a good time...

We're about to start watching the Silliness of Witches. Last one apparently. Either that or our Skybox has lost the series link.

LetUsPrey · 10/11/2018 22:01

at babel fish in car

Witches thing finished last week Helen so sounds like you’re okay

We’re on SEAL Team now, then DH wants to watch the boxing at which point I shall head to the hayloft for some physical activity with the HBFs

OP posts:
SisterHelenoftheEternalCatchUp · 10/11/2018 22:36

Silliness of Witches dragged a bit and was silly.

Hayloft now.

FancyFancy · 10/11/2018 22:40

And I'm off out........Wink

LetUsPrey · 11/11/2018 08:54

Morning wenches

Everything is a bit whevs today. I shall shake myself out of it.

Having some more struggles with DS2 re his homework. Sigh.

Anyway, place to go, —things— HBFs to do

OP posts:
SisterHelenoftheEternalCatchUp · 11/11/2018 09:52

re. homework LetUs Sad DS has spent 3 hours playing fortnite while I've been cooking up apples, so at least you've attempted the responsible parenting thing this morning.

Is peeing down here and thoroughly uninspiring. DS still needs to do his homework, DH is pinned to the bed by cats, and my hip had a massive spasm while I was bending over to sort out the apple crates. FML. I had visions of having to stand on one leg like a flamingo until someone came to rescue me which given the state of the manshapes (fortnite/in bed) might take a while. Fortunately it eased off so I hobbled off unaided.

Now I suspect that I need to get breakfast for DS. Or persuade him to get his own...

LetUsPrey · 11/11/2018 13:41

The homework he managed to do (writing approximately 20 words which took forfuckingever) was yesterday. He’s still got a shit ton to do. I fucking hate homework.

The hip thing sounds extremely painful Helen Sad. Hope it’s feeling better than it was.

No HBI at sportingactivity.

OP posts:
SisterHelenoftheEternalCatchUp · 11/11/2018 14:44

at inconsiderate HBI.

Hip is fine again that - I have no idea what's wrong with it. I thought it was getting better until today's efforts. FFS, etc. More painfully, I absentmindedly scratched at an itch on my back. Hhhhhhhhhhhnnnnnnng Sad Ooops. Is lovely and sunny here now after the rather sodden start to the day. I feel I should be making use of the sunshine, not sitting round on the laptop doing route planner stuff for next weekend.
for mini-meet!

FancyFancy · 11/11/2018 15:08

Afternoon.

Ouch helen!

Commisserations letus, homework is such a drag. I am relieved to be largely past all that, but DD's school are pissing me off - so many bloody emails. Mostly about the homework app which does not appear to be fully functional. I wouldn't know as I take the traditional method of talking to my child Hmm I mean, I appreciate technology , but for the love of god, it's supposed to make life easier

LetUsPrey · 11/11/2018 18:01

Thankfully DS2’s school homework app works well which is just as well because he doesn’t write any of it in his planner and doesn’t remember any of it. He’s done the stuff due for tomorrow at last. No idea if it’s right. He’s been a fucking nightmare this afternoon and I’ve sort of given up. He’s got four lots due on Tuesday and it’s parents’ evening tomorrow. That should be fun.

That Friends quote is right. If it’s not a headboard, it’s just not worth it.

OP posts:
ApricotCrush · 11/11/2018 18:03

Evening. Nice day here but couldn't be arsed to do any washing. Hmm

Oh Helen that sounds painful.

It's really hard work being a parent these days, I do sympathise. DGD has got to build a castle with moat and everything, but I think we've escaped that one as she's now gone home to her mother. In other news, I've just had to perform an emergency operation on a teddy with an arm hanging off. Confused

Off to find food and catch up with Strictly.

SisterHelenoftheEternalCatchUp · 11/11/2018 19:07

DS has been glued to the TV most of the afternoon.
Happily, we're on Season 1, and have gone through eps 7-8 Grin Currently on episode 9 (shooting rabbits and Protestants)

Homework is a bloody nightmare, but DS does seem to be a lot better at doing his these days.
Wine Gin Brew for everyone, as needed. Plus Chocolate

LetUsPrey · 11/11/2018 20:05

I will totally lose the plot if DS2 has homework that involves building stuff.

Just picturing Apricot in her posh frock with her scoring paddles, glaring at the other judges with a WTF face Grin

DS2 takes his stuff to my mum’s for her to carry out surgical repairs

Excellent parenting skills Helen.

LetUsPrey · 11/11/2018 20:53

And I’d be rolling my eyes. We’d make a great pair of judges.

Now watching Dynasties - new David Attenborough thing. Fucksake chimps are scary. I already knew this but it still shocks me when I see it.

OP posts:
SisterHelenoftheEternalCatchUp · 11/11/2018 22:27

Right. Hayloft.

I shall watch the scary chimps with DS tomorrow.

Night all.

LetUsPrey · 11/11/2018 23:04

Hayloft for me also. We’ve watched ep2 of Informer —at last—. Very good.

Hope the HBFs are ready. I’ve a lot of tension needs working out.
