Help needed .... to find a girl's name I like!!!!!

Hello everyone ......
I need help .... with 10 weeks to go in this pregnancy I am beginning to think of names for our baby ... and am stuck!!!!
DH and I are pretty much at one with a boy's name that we both like (managed to dissuade DH from Bert and Frank ) so there is no problem there but when it comes to a girl's name we are in serious trouble and if we have a girl I can just see that she won't have a name for months ... bit like Edward and Sophie!!!

What I am after is some suggestions .... I hate baby naming books ... I get to C and fall asleep ... I never get past F!

We are looking for a name that goes with DS's name ... but I really don't want to post DS's name here so that is not really helpful ... sorry
Suffice it to say that his name is a very traditional English name (can think of a few kings that were named this ... not Henry, James or William) .... so I am after a traditional English girl's name ... that isn't too poncy or posh ... something pretty. My favourite girl's name is Rose/Rosie but a very close friend of mine had a baby last month and called her that so DH doesn't think we can have that ....
So ... sorry for the rambling post .... let's have it girls .... I need loads of suggestions!!!
Any ideas for me to start working on .... ????????

Keep going ladies ... you are all doing a grand job! It is just what we need rather than trawling through name books which have names like Hepzibah in them ....
Thanks a million ...

My favourites so far are (still) Rosie, Alice, Grace ... but I am still open to anything!

Mind you ... having just read Pie's thread on names in America I might just go for Lillette ....

My next one is a boy - no name yet! If it was a girl I had planned to call her Scarlett

LIZS · 18/11/2003 09:58

In addition to dd's which has already been listed I liked :- Emily, Emilia, Eloise, Helena , Elinor, Kathryn, Sophie, Charlotte, Laura. Also it depends what sounds right with your surname. i know what you mean about not wanting to have same name as your friend but you could still have it as a second name.

Basically I would be tempted to post 'top 50 baby names' in your search engine which should take you to a list of the top 50 names for both girls and boys - and then avoid anything in the top 50 (sadly the list contains some rather nice names though).

I quite like Charlotte - but haven't checked whether or not its a top 50 one!

handlemecarefully · 18/11/2003 10:21

Just checked - Charlotte is number 7 - damn!
