Help needed .... to find a girl's name I like!!!!!

Hello everyone ......
I need help .... with 10 weeks to go in this pregnancy I am beginning to think of names for our baby ... and am stuck!!!!
DH and I are pretty much at one with a boy's name that we both like (managed to dissuade DH from Bert and Frank ) so there is no problem there but when it comes to a girl's name we are in serious trouble and if we have a girl I can just see that she won't have a name for months ... bit like Edward and Sophie!!!

What I am after is some suggestions .... I hate baby naming books ... I get to C and fall asleep ... I never get past F!

We are looking for a name that goes with DS's name ... but I really don't want to post DS's name here so that is not really helpful ... sorry
Suffice it to say that his name is a very traditional English name (can think of a few kings that were named this ... not Henry, James or William) .... so I am after a traditional English girl's name ... that isn't too poncy or posh ... something pretty. My favourite girl's name is Rose/Rosie but a very close friend of mine had a baby last month and called her that so DH doesn't think we can have that ....
So ... sorry for the rambling post .... let's have it girls .... I need loads of suggestions!!!
Any ideas for me to start working on .... ????????

Jaybee ... your post has freaked me out completely .... of your SIL's 3 son's names there is my DS, my DH and my brother ..... how freaky is that???????????

I just wanted to say thank you to everyone ... I know this thread is on its way out but I will be printing it off to stick on my wall by my bed so that I can do some thinking ...

I will speak to my friend ... we are 12000 miles apart after all ... and see what she says ...

I like Abigail too now ... Abby ...

Ghosty, some more for the pot:

Old English: Richeldis, Ellen, Maud, Constance, Beatrice, Rosamund, Loveday (snap, janh, I really wanted this for dd but it wouldn't pass the Tesco test and dh went bananas when I suggested it) and another vetoed favourite, Julian or Juliana;
Personally I feel it was a shocking omission by Slug not to have MARINA on the Shakespearean list
But hey, Isabelle will always be my ultimate fave, even though my mother makes the bicycle joke EVERY time she rings...
Copper, how could you forget Wilgefortis from your list of Saxon grotesques? She's the sweetie who grew a huge beard overnight when threatened with a forced marriage...

OldieMum · 19/11/2003 20:35

DD is called Mary. We chose it because it's been a family name for several generations, but we also like it because it's so simple - dd has a complicated surname. We haven't yet come across any other Marys, which has surprised me, but lots of people have said what a nice, old-fashioned name it is.

janh · 19/11/2003 20:53

There was a girl called Julina (sic) in my class at primary school. Never heard of another one!

Dinny · 19/11/2003 20:53

I love Bibi - dh doesn't like it though. My Nana is called Loveday Violet - beautiful name, I think.

RockingRosebud · 19/11/2003 21:48

I know its not englishbut does anyone like the name Erin?If we have a dd this it what we want to call her, just curious.

Enchanted · 19/11/2003 22:42

Just seen the Skakespear message, how about Cressida, Cressie for short. I knew a Cressida mind you and she want a little horror

chatee · 19/11/2003 22:45

Erin or Beth were our choices for a girl Leander but apparently it's not a girl so we are still struggling at the moment, his nickname is Ronaldo and dh seriously thinks he stands a chance of using it as a middle name, DD thinks we should call the baby Alfie darling....guess what she's been watching
how are you keeping?

leander · 19/11/2003 22:46

not great I will start a chat thread if you dont mind talking for a while.

if you have time that is.

Katherine · 20/11/2003 00:06

Hi Ghosty - wow not long to go. I seem to have missed most of your pg being bogged down in my own DD

Well of course my fav's are Harriet Grace Beatrice and Alice. If (very unlikley if ) I were to have any more I would like an Eliza or Mathilda.

Don't worry the right name will come. We only decided about 2 nights before this time....

CountessDracula · 20/11/2003 20:33

Perdita was the name of the mummy dog in 101 dalmations...

fio2 · 20/11/2003 20:35

Teletubby · 20/11/2003 20:38

Tortington · 21/11/2003 00:20

remember you may have an ugly kid - i mean yes i am custardo the pessimist 'tis true. but its a reality there are people walking around with faces really only a mother could love.

that being said i think simple names are better. i was goin to call my daghter Bethany o Ruth - then thought whilst i was in labout OMG! supposing i have a dog ugly kid? so i called her Emma! pretty & simple

she is of course very very beautiful
