Help needed .... to find a girl's name I like!!!!!

Hello everyone ......
I need help .... with 10 weeks to go in this pregnancy I am beginning to think of names for our baby ... and am stuck!!!!
DH and I are pretty much at one with a boy's name that we both like (managed to dissuade DH from Bert and Frank ) so there is no problem there but when it comes to a girl's name we are in serious trouble and if we have a girl I can just see that she won't have a name for months ... bit like Edward and Sophie!!!

What I am after is some suggestions .... I hate baby naming books ... I get to C and fall asleep ... I never get past F!

We are looking for a name that goes with DS's name ... but I really don't want to post DS's name here so that is not really helpful ... sorry
Suffice it to say that his name is a very traditional English name (can think of a few kings that were named this ... not Henry, James or William) .... so I am after a traditional English girl's name ... that isn't too poncy or posh ... something pretty. My favourite girl's name is Rose/Rosie but a very close friend of mine had a baby last month and called her that so DH doesn't think we can have that ....
So ... sorry for the rambling post .... let's have it girls .... I need loads of suggestions!!!
Any ideas for me to start working on .... ????????

dd's middle name is Ivy (after her grandmother). She currently thinks it's 'gravy'.

Eowyn · 18/11/2003 22:13

My dd is called Eleanor Rose which has kind of grown on me, at the time only thing we agreed on. Haven't shortened it so far, tho she has only recently managed to pronounce it. Was Eowee for ages then Ennanna. oh well.

Norma · 18/11/2003 22:21

charliecat · 18/11/2003 22:25

tomboy · 18/11/2003 22:35

ninja · 18/11/2003 22:39

Grace, Abigail, May, Emilia, Lily,

Linnet · 18/11/2003 22:41

I love the name Poppy for a girl but it doesn't go with our surname. I also like Lily but our dd has an unusual name, so we don't want to give the next one a popular name, IYKWIM.

anyway..

Poppy
Lily,
Amelia,
Grace
clarissa
Freya

New babies that I know are called Beth, Iona and Florence, the latter is becomming quite popular again as I've heard of two others as well.

Demented · 18/11/2003 22:41

Oh, I love Isla too or what about Maisie.

sickbucket · 18/11/2003 22:43

Isla kennedy is my favourite - that's what my dd is called

Davros · 18/11/2003 23:00

Can't we get Tech to do a "chart" of MNers kids' names? That would be good, we could enter just the names we've used and the tech magic could sort it all .....
Louisa sounds nice, especially it has some meaning for your family and I like Grace too (although its Orlando the Marmalade Cat's wife's name)

Angeliz · 18/11/2003 23:00

The Alice song was Smokie and my dd loves it and dances round to it! I do sometimes get the urge to shout "who the f* is Alice!" (as in my hayday!)..God help me if i did!

Angeliz · 18/11/2003 23:01

i meant there that i get the urge whilst dancing round like an eejit with dd, not at any time!

Angeliz · 18/11/2003 23:02

janh, don't mean to be picky but he lived next door to Alice for 24 years!...sorry, couldn't resist!

Ghosty · 18/11/2003 23:03

Oooh ...
I like Ivy ... that's different ... mmmmmmmmm ...
and Lauren too
And also Abigail ... would probably call her Abby
... mmmmm
Lots to think about ...

This is soooo much better than a baby name book ... I find trawling through the weird ones trying to find the nice ones so hard ....

I like Maggie too but it is too similar to my name ....

tomboy · 18/11/2003 23:15

Bliss.

Ghosty · 18/11/2003 23:18

Anais ... there is weird and there is weird ...
My midwife told me that she delivered twins that were called Montana and Villa Maria (two well known NZ wineries) and the nurse who did my blood tests last week said she met a little boy who was called "NW" ... which was short for New World ... a supermarket chain in New Zealand ...

OP posts:
