My child was served sausages

Not sure how to deal with this one, so my little one started nursery and gets given lunch there, we are Muslim and they know he’s not allowed pork, they usually give him veggie sausages because and they let me know on the app, but today I read that he had normal sausages and I’m assuming it’s pork? I know you can get beef but I’m not sure if they use beef? I’ll have a talk with them tomorrow but if it was pork I just don’t know how I’ll ever trust them again! This is usually a very good nursery and it’ll be silly of them to make a mistake like this knowing he doesn’t eat it for religious reasons.
Has anybody else dealt with something like this??

@RacketeerRalph why don’t you RTROTFT before telling me I need help

Benjispruce5 · 09/11/2021 21:25

Hopefully an error on the app or maybe chicken sausages?

@Crunchymum don't get me started Grin

AliceMcK · 09/11/2021 21:26

@KaycePollard

I don’t want my children eating because they make me retch and I have a bit of a phobia about them

Good Lord! Way to manipulate your DC, much?

Most likely a typo but do check.

Our nursery used an app with the menus preloaded so they just had to tick a box to say what the child had. My son has a food allergy so they'd often put a note to say he'd had an alternative. Once or twice they forgot to add the note but would tell me that he had the allergy safe version.

Some very ignorant people on this thread. Embarrassing.

I've worked on schools that serve chicken sausages, this is fairly normal I think. Most (perhaps all) schools serve halal food too so this may be the case in this situation also (ie it may have been halaal chicken). Check the facts as always before going in guns blazing but you're absolutely right to complain if your child was given pork.

So what,? You think childcare settings should disregard all dietary requirements that are for religious reasons in order to make a point? Or do you think the should abide by the parents wishes?
Comedycook · 09/11/2021 21:30

*they

AliceMcK · 09/11/2021 21:30

Don’t want to say, what happened to me as a child was horrible and people who know me know my phobia and the background so would be very outing.

TowandaForever · 09/11/2021 21:31
@TurnUpTurnip
Once kids are school age, unless there's allergies and they have a special meal the kids get to choose their option, it's not the schools job to insist vegetarian kids take the veggie option to please parents! This whole scenario came up at my kids school and at 8 the judgement was that parents can't force kids to be vegetarian neither can parents force them to have the meat option, children choose
I disagree with this.

If as a parent you are a vegetarian / vegan household those wishes should be respected. Especially if it's a service you're paying for. Why would you undermine a parent?

My vegetarian children were given meat/ fish by nursery staff who didn't agree with my children being vegetarian. This was many years ago and I hope things have changed now.

That does sound like an error OP. You'll probably find the next or previous child on the list is wrongly noted as having vegetarian sausages. Staff do tend to be careful about food.

2pinkginsplease · 09/11/2021 21:33

I would think it was an error on updating the app.

At our nursery each child has a place mat that says what they can or cannot eat, such as Eva can eat all foods or Eva is not allowed dairy so that all staff either regular or supply know exactly what each child is allowed to eat.

@FrasierCraneDay your rudeness and ignorance are astonishing. Whatever your personal beliefs your lack of respect is horrendous. I’m embarrassed for you.

EmJay19 · 09/11/2021 21:34

When my sons app said he’d been given meat the lady said sorry she’d made a mistake copying m and pasting, usually she copies and pastes then edits but forgot o to edit. Hopefully it’ll be similar for you

You do need help. I'm sure that whatever happened to you was absolutely awful and I'd recommend anyone who has such traumatic experiences get help. I wasn't being horrible.

allofthecheese · 09/11/2021 21:35

This happened to me recently actually. DC is veggie and they wrote he had meat for lunch. I queried it and it was an error. I did notice the person who uploaded it I wasn't familiar with and I think they just did it on autopilot for all the kids. I would really not be happy if it had been the case. I hope it's an error for you too.

Why has this moved on to Halal meat? The OP was just asking about dietary requirements.
