The Jeff Buckley version is so beautiful, maybe everyone should download that instead?

They should all die.

LadyMuck · 13/12/2008 18:16

I thought that it was by Leonard Cohen? I know that Jeff Buckley did the version for West Wing?

You are right Lady, still don't think that blardy xfactor version will be a patch on the amazing mr Buckley

Listen Jeff Buckleys 'hallalujah' is an incredible song which deserves to be listened to and appreciated NOT massacared by some popstar wannabes who are not going to be heard of again after next year (if the lord is feeling merciful). Problem is their version of Hallalujah will be all over the radio stations meaning it will in future produce a foaming mouth reaction from me instead of stopping whatever I am doing just to listen to it.

WalkingInAWonderStuffingLand · 13/12/2008 18:25

Dh thinks that its a energy solution. Jeff Buckley will be spinning so fast in his grave that they could hook him up to the mains and power michigan

AHEM...

LadyMuck · 13/12/2008 18:30

Apparently Leonard Cohen will get at least $1m from it, so he isn't that unhappy. And according to the times there are already over 100 cover versions.

TotalChaos · 13/12/2008 18:31

um brave choice of song.

DasherDancerPrancerFMVixen · 13/12/2008 18:33

sorry, musical pedant here but it is NOT jeff Buckley's Hallelujah, it is Leonard Cohen's song. Buckley's version is sublime, but is is a cover.
Leonard Cohen's voice may not be everyone's cup of tea but by gods, the guy can write a song!

Libraloveschristmas1975 · 13/12/2008 18:35

It is possible to be a cover and still be the definitive version.

I can't believe how wanky that sounds. I will shut up now.

WalkingInAWonderStuffingLand · 13/12/2008 18:35

Sorry Wilf, missed that one, it's just been on Radio one

DasherDancerPrancerFMVixen · 13/12/2008 18:37

yes but it is NOT Jeff Buckley's song

OHolyNight · 13/12/2008 18:47

KD Langs version is stunning

I was mortified when I heard about x factor. No one can touch Jeff Buckley version.

For anyone interested Jeff Buckley sings it here, listen to it before its been tainted!

WalkingInAWonderStuffingLand · 13/12/2008 19:28

Thanks for the link Ros3. Soo pretty

WalkingInAWonderStuffingLand · 13/12/2008 19:32

Yes I know that now, sorry, didn't realise that it was Leonard Cohen when I started the thread!

Not actually too sure who Leonard Cohen is tbh

How depressing. A Christmas travesty.

nancy75 · 13/12/2008 19:34

leonard cohen was ripped off by his manager afaik, and is pretty hard up at the moment, which is probably why he is quite happy they have chosen the song. i do wish they hadnt though, it will ruin it. agree the jeff buckley version is the best.

snigger · 13/12/2008 19:35

Leonard Cohen's original is the best, imo, Buckley included.

I don't like the lyric change in Buckley's version, I think it subtracts from the overall heat of the song.

I'm certainly ready to tsk intolerantly at any X Factor pretenders....

MissClavel · 13/12/2008 19:36

I love Jeff Buckley's version and I love Leonard Cohen's too, and it is Leonard's song and completely sublime.

Yes they will massacre it. At least they will have to sing the line 'but you don't care for music, do you?'
