The Jeff Buckley version is so beautiful, maybe everyone should download that instead?

bran, I have a Cohen version somewhere where he sings you rather than ya.

PenelopePitstops · 14/12/2008 18:36

alex's versionis a travesty!

im downloading buckleys, but not until tomorrow! i would download leonards, but think jeff has a better chance of beating her

Joolyjoolyjoo · 14/12/2008 18:40

I agree- Buckley's version is far better. Aparently even radio 1 are calling for people to download Buckley's version and make IT Christmas no 1 instead of the X-factor version.

Alexandra has a great voice, but I think her version really detracts from the simplicity of the song. Surely they could find talented songwriters to write songs for the singers, rather than just taking a song that already "belongs" to someone else/

CuddlyUnderTheMistletoe · 14/12/2008 18:55

A second to all those who cast a vote for Leonard Cohen, a classic and talented writer and musician.

Must admit though that I am glad Alexandra won, I considered her most deserving and consistant throughout.

Please may I have my Saturday afternoons back now?

Thanks awfully

sparklyxmasfairy · 14/12/2008 18:58

what a travesty

refuse to watch silly shows with people who just want to be famous and don't care about the music

EffiePerine · 14/12/2008 19:04

Prefer Len's version meself. God knows what the X-factor will make of it (having thankfully missed the series) but it can;t be worse than Ronan Keating's Fairytale of New York.

sparklyxmasfairy · 14/12/2008 19:05

bland blond boy did what?
am so glad am out of the loop on that one

very fond of J. Cale version too

ChristmasCakeYerbouti · 14/12/2008 19:06

All X factor contestants and anyone under the age of 16 who votes for them/buys their records should all be buried in a big pit of Quicklime IMHO.

The only X Factor winner is the production company

ChristmasCakeYerbouti · 14/12/2008 19:07

anyone OVER the age of 16

(long day....)

TheMuppetsChristmasMuggle · 14/12/2008 19:11

Twiglett · 14/12/2008 19:12

TheMuppetsChristmasMuggle · 14/12/2008 19:13

I'm over 16

EffiePerine · 14/12/2008 19:13

and wasn't the West Wing version k d lang?

Twiglett · 14/12/2008 19:13

am I the only one who thinks of Shrek when they hear Hallelujah now

Blandmum · 14/12/2008 19:14

Cohen writes beautifully , but like dear old Bob, I can't stand his voice!

Sorry about the heresy

My db saw him not so long ago and said he was outstanding, but not my cuppa tea

The Jeff buckley version is so so so beautiful and haunting.
That ex factor girl is going to destroy that song from start to finish. It should not be allowed.

Twiglett · 14/12/2008 19:18

and there should be an apostrophe in Jeff Buckley's too

actually it's a nice version .. hardly Eva Cassidy's style of haunting redoing of classic songs (like 'Somewhere over the rainbow")

I have to say having been forced to watch x-factor by my 7 year old I think Alexandra is an amzazing talent

I don't think that Jeff is up to being up anywhere, anymore.

Blandmum · 14/12/2008 19:24

Twig LOL at the woman who admits to watching the X factor critiquing my musical taste!!!

Barking · 14/12/2008 19:28

Dittany, Jeff Buckley died 11 years ago.
Not that has anything to do with the song. I just think his version is so gentle and wise and he sings with his heart, Alexandria just shouts.
I shall be downloading it (again) tomorrow.
