The Jeff Buckley version is so beautiful, maybe everyone should download that instead?

Oh no. Am gutted. One of the few songs I care about!. Even as an old git I prefer Jeff Buckley's version .

Merrylegs · 13/12/2008 19:58

Leonard Cohen's accountant ripped him off to the tune of 5 million dollars so Leonard had to come out of retirement at age 70 to do gigs this summer to earn some back. He's going to get a million from royalties off back of X factor single but - oh Leonard, think, What's a million when they are murdering your song?

This however is the definitive version.....

see what I mean?

MincePirateCat · 14/12/2008 09:51

i love Jeff Buckley. His version means alot to me, i didn't really want constant rehashing of it personally. Yet she did an amazing job of it and had the soul and depth to do her version of it.

TeenyTinyTorya · 14/12/2008 10:07

If anyone feels strongly enough about this, there is a Facebook group called Jeff Buckley's Hallelujah for Xmas No. 1 or something like that. There are several thousand members all planning to download his version of the song and upset the X-Factor

daftpunk · 14/12/2008 10:12

nick cave did a lovely (version not cover) of hallelujah

lol dasherdancer...forgot how great he was!

I do think ALexandra has an amazing voice and I did get goosebumps when she sang but I just love the Jeff Buckley version - so much raw emotion.

unknownrebelbang · 14/12/2008 10:45

Could be worse - it could be Diana Vickers' version being blasted out all over the place...

daftpunk · 14/12/2008 10:50

that's very true...we should all be singing hallelujah we were spared.

Jux · 14/12/2008 11:56

I prefer Rufus Wainwright's rendition, it's less polished iyswim. Buckley's is very good and is definitely better than Alex's. I would love to hear Diana doing it though.

Claire236 · 14/12/2008 12:03

Diana did it on X-Factor & it was painful. Much prefer Alexandras version. I love the song & think Alexandra did it justice. Very different to the Jeff Buckley version but it still gave me shivers. Beautiful.

Jux · 14/12/2008 12:22

I'm listening to Diana on YouTube now. I like it, wish it was the whole thing, not just a snippet. I'd buy this version if I had the chance.

beanieb · 14/12/2008 12:23

it's a version of Leonard Cohen's Hallelihah BTW. Jeff Buckley covered it. I expect some pedant has already pointed this out.

littlelamb · 14/12/2008 12:27

O I love Jeff Buckley's version. I remember the first time I heard it and being just blown away. I have joined the facebook group and will be downloading it (despite the fact I already have about ten thousand copies)

beanieb · 14/12/2008 12:34

in Welsh

bronze · 14/12/2008 12:35

At least its not someone massacreing something by Simon and Garfunkle yet again.

There are certain songs that should just not be touched unless of course its by someone who can really do it justice such as JeffB

bran · 14/12/2008 12:37

K D Lang's version makes me tearful, but I love Buckley's version too. I get slightly irritated by Wainwright's version because he sings 'you' rather than 'ya' so that it doesn't rhyme properly. [shallow emoticon]

I've just listened to Alexandra's version on You Tube and it is very good, but a little diva-ish IMO, but she can be excused because she is young and inexperienced.

Vixen - would you believe that's the first time I've been RR'd.

beanieb · 14/12/2008 12:38

in Spanish!

beanieb · 14/12/2008 12:40
