I’m off to see Paramore tomorrow - super excited!
what’s the best and worst gigs you’ve been to and why?

Steriophonics never disappoint, sound better live than recorded somehow. Other way round for Oasis although maybe better in an indoor venue.

Early days guns and roses were raw, exiting and unpredictable but amazing.

Foo fighters Wembley 2008, Foo Fighters Milton Keynes Bowl 2011, FooFighters IOW Festival 2011 where Dave stood right in front of us so I could touch him, can’t top that ever. Worst was Boomtown Rats in about 79, so far away from the front I had a little snooze!

I was at the first 2 of these and they were really incredible shows.

Bullet for my Valentine at the Alexander Palace in I think 2009 had such amazing energy. I've seen them a few times since but this particular show really smashed it.

Worst was probably Andrew WK in Manchester, was boooring.

Annoyingwurringnoise · 14/04/2023 22:12

OMD were brilliant, a really cracking night.

Red Hot Chili Peppers were absolute crap. I was so disappointed.

I had tickets to see Stevie Wonder perform Songs in the Key of Life at Hyde Park in 2016, but I couldn’t go because I was in hospital. It’s one of the biggest regrets of my life.

Mightyouandiconfabulate · 14/04/2023 22:12

Best:
Foo Fighters
Pearl Jam
Black Crows
Elbow
Stereophonics
AC/DC

So do many, I could go on.
Worse, never been to a bad concert yet.

Snoopystick · 14/04/2023 22:12

So lovely to read these as I was at some of them , great memories 🙂

SconesJamthenCream · 14/04/2023 21:36

Depeche Mode my best too, although I've seen them a few times.

Worst, Deep Purple. Not my thing at all.

Most unexpectedly good, Alice Cooper.

I've seen them a few times too but their gig in London in 2017 was out of this world. We had Golden circle tickets and the atmosphere was just amazing.

Ilovepugs2017 · 14/04/2023 22:10

I bet guns and roses were amazing back then. I seen a recent vid of them on YouTube and axel roses voice isn’t up to par anymore imo

I was a huge fan of the early stuff, I don’t bother now. But Slash with Myles Kennedy on vocals is amazing, haven’t had chance yet to see them live though.

Bluesclues1 · 14/04/2023 22:17

Best - Foo fighters

Worst - Fleetwood Mac when they toured a few years ago. They did seating only at Wembley and it completely killed the atmosphere. The lighting/sound was off too so was a big expensive disappointment!

Guilty pleasure - Shania Twain. Incredible.

WarningToTheCurious · 14/04/2023 22:20

Blancmange and The Undertones are still touring and are a great night out.

aibutohavethisusername · 14/04/2023 22:21

Best - Prince absolutely amazing.

don’t have enough to have a worst one.

lancastercourt · 14/04/2023 22:21

Slipknot think it would have been early 2020 before the world went to shit.

Was dds first BIG concert and I'll always love it for that. Watching her fall in love with live music and the atmosphere not just 'music'. She's since been up and down the country watching her fave bands. Counting down until she's allowed in standing and can join the mosh pits ...7 months and counting for most venues

I'm devasted at the people saying biffy clyro - we had tickets but DH was rushed in for emergency spinal surgery so we couldn't do the journey to London.

Worst? As a 12ish year old being dragged to a Ronan Keaton concert. Not my cup of tea but gave her and her friend a reason to go apparently. From what I remember and haven't blocked out he just sort of sat there 🤷🏼‍♀️

MissAtomicBomb1 · 14/04/2023 22:23

Best - The killers last year at The Emirates stadium were epic. First big concert I'd been to since covid & wow!!!

Worst - saw the manic street preachers about 20 years ago and they withheld Australia despite it being one of their biggest songs at the time and the audience chanting it. Haven't forgiven them!
The Red hot chilli peppers at Hyde park were bad. Supported by an awful group called chicks on speed who were booed by the audience. The RHCP then came on in a strop and it was all downhill from there!

Doseagullstasteoffish · 14/04/2023 22:26

A few of my favourites- Manic Street Preachers. Shed Seven every time I’ve seen them. Sleeper doing the whole of ‘The It Girl’ last year, supported by the Lottery Winners - who I’m going to see next week because they were absolutely amazing! And Andrew WK has been brilliant both times I’ve seen him.

Worst - Oasis and Eminem, in part due to the crowd though - not a friendly atmosphere either time.

Lovelyring · 14/04/2023 22:28

Worst Meatloaf. Unfortunately he'd just come out of hospital and probably shouldn't have been performing. The singing was painfully out of tune and loads of people left half way through.

Ilovepugs2017 · 14/04/2023 22:31

Anyone seen Imagine Dragons live? They’re one of my fave bands but not managed to see them live yet 😔

CMOTDibbler · 14/04/2023 22:31

For stage show, Rammstein absolutely hands down. I'm not a big fan, but it was absolutely incredible start to finish.

Worst, Suzanne Vega many years ago. They might as well have put on a CD.

Museya15 · 14/04/2023 22:32

Nirvana the best.

Big fun, the worst.

bguthb90 · 14/04/2023 21:48

Best - The Levellers, Brixton Academy, 1995 - sweat dripping off the ceiling due to the amount of moshing.

Worst - Springsteen at the RDS in Dublin. Windy night and sound was out of sync

Your description of the levellers one sounds like my experience of seeing slipknot live - one crazy gig for sure!

The best was the Pixies at the top of their game in 1992; I was trembling after.
Prodigy at Glastonbury in 1995 was also up there.
The worst was the Lovely Eggs last year with them whining on stage about the audience not "giving the energy back", ie, they were shit. We left.

Prodigy are amazing - so gutted I never got to see them live!

Best: Rammstein. Mind blowing.
Worst: Nicky Minaj. Crap

I watched a couple of rammsteins vids on you tube from their recent gig at Cardiff and was blown away! Du hast has such a vibe!

Best - Hard to choose between any of the old stagers: Dolly Parton, Barry Manilow, Burt Bacharach, Tom Jones - all absolute showmen/women.

Worst - Bob Dylan, I was so looking forward to it and he murdered his own songs. Just awful.

Your experience of Bob Dylan reminded me of my experience of Evanescence live - some of the songs sounded like a cat being strangled. Awful

Wouldlovetobeinthesun · 14/04/2023 22:35

Worst - Depeche Mode in Cardiff. Towards the end it was so self indulgent and u was gutted. Was a massive fan in the 80's but this put me off them. We watched a lot of people walking out.

Chrissy Hind too when she was supporting Rod Stewart I think. She was so intoxicated she couldn't get the words out.

Best - too many to mention but amongst them, Prince, Rolling Stones and Kaiser Chiefs.

Worst - Bob Dylan, I was so looking forward to it and he murdered his own songs. Just awful.

Also - I agree about Tom Jones seen him live for the first time last year when he was touring with the phonics and was blown away by his voice live. He’s still got it considering he’s in his 80s

Arghh, I have total Rammstein envy, they’re on my must see list.

Ditto ☺️
