I’m off to see Paramore tomorrow - super excited!
what’s the best and worst gigs you’ve been to and why?

Best was Green Day supported by Frank Turner at Brixton Academy around 10 years ago. My two favourites on the same night, it was a Reading/Leeds warm up gig so only announced a few days before.

Worst was probably Daniel Bedingfield, a friend asked me to go along with her. It was probably 20 years ago so I don’t remember much of it now but I do remember that he just rushed through the set.

Omg Greenday - very jealous! Wish they were still touring now as I never got to see them!

Did he even have enough songs for a tour 😂 I only remember two of his 🫣

Best was Guns n’ Roses’ first UK tour, I think it was 1987/88 in smallish clubs. The energy was unbelievable.

I am struggling to think of a worst tbh.

Before I read any replies I had my answers in my mind and they've both been mentioned already!
Best Biffy Clyro
Worst Badly drawn boy

My worst was Venetian Snares. Actually had a fit of laughter and nearly fell over because it was so appalling. Every new song was hysterically awful. I could have died.

Oh gosh 😅 not money well spent then 🫣

Best - Faith no more at Brixton academy in 2009. I have the gig poster framed in my hallway.

Worst - probably Marilyn Manson (before all the allegations came out, had no idea at the time). The sound was appalling. He must have really pissed people off cos it had to be deliberate. Rob Zombie on the same bill was amazing.

bguthb90 · 14/04/2023 21:48

Best - The Levellers, Brixton Academy, 1995 - sweat dripping off the ceiling due to the amount of moshing.

Worst - Springsteen at the RDS in Dublin. Windy night and sound was out of sync

I have not been to many concerts, so I can't really mention one that was the worst.
But the best was Robyn, outdoor concert, 17 years ago.

Ooh I bet that was good - amazing voice!

Worst performance : Paul Young but he was a support act
Best : too hard to say been to loads of great concerts inc Queen ( Wembley 86 ) , Springsteen ( a few times ) , Cher ( 2019) , George Michael ( a few times ) .

handsoffate · 14/04/2023 21:49

Also honourable mentions to Tool, Nine Inch Nails and INXS

Love Paramore!

Me too I’ve loved them since they first come out and was so excited they had a new album and tour coming out! Managed to get tickets by some miracle - they sold out sooo quick!

The best was the Pixies at the top of their game in 1992; I was trembling after.
Prodigy at Glastonbury in 1995 was also up there.
The worst was the Lovely Eggs last year with them whining on stage about the audience not "giving the energy back", ie, they were shit. We left.

My3cents1 · 14/04/2023 21:50

Prince. Hands down. GOAT💜

Sorry to answer your question...

Best - can never beat Foo Fighters

Worst - probably Blondie (rubbish seats really far away)

From the videos I’ve seen on YouTube the foo fighters look epic live to be fair 😍

Best: Rammstein. Mind blowing.
Worst: Nicky Minaj. Crap

Deus.
Olivia Tremor Control.
Prince.
Manchester Orchestra.

Orchestras are beautiful live!

Best - Hard to choose between any of the old stagers: Dolly Parton, Barry Manilow, Burt Bacharach, Tom Jones - all absolute showmen/women.

Worst - Bob Dylan, I was so looking forward to it and he murdered his own songs. Just awful.

BCBird · 14/04/2023 21:36

Seen many bands but tbink Depeche Mode were brilliant as was Tom.Odell and Faithless. Fortunately never been to.any awful ones. Would be peed off. Seen Blur twice, 2nd time one of band members kept turning with his back to audience- asshole🙄

Yeah nothing worse than a bad gig especially if it’s cost loads and/or you have high expectations of it.

I seen Placebo recently and whilst their music was good live the singer didn’t interact with the crowd at all 🫣

Arghh, I have total Rammstein envy, they’re on my must see list.

Best - Foo Fighters or the Killers
Worst - I saw the Zutons at a festival years ago. They mimed and the lead singer got aggressive when he was booed.

Eek 😬 that’s not good

Best - Charles Bradley, in a small gig that meant he practically gazed into each person's eyes at least once, so thankful I saw him live before he passed.
Random good: Won tickets to see Underworld, who I vaguely recalled (was a bit young then) from the 90s... took my sister and it was incredible, we danced non stop.

Jealous of the Foo Fighters and Depeche Mode experiences! Was meant to see DM in Athens yonks ago but they cancelled quite last minute.

Arghh, I have total Rammstein envy, they’re on my must see list.

I’ve seen them 3 times, and I’m going twice again this summer 🤓 Something surreal about watching them in Berlin, it was the best night of my life.

Ilovepugs2017 · 14/04/2023 21:57

MrsJamin · 14/04/2023 21:37

Best - Taylor Hawkins tribute last year. Just unbelievable lineup and incredible music. Full of emotion celebrating a fabulous musician's life.
Worst - Incubus.

Aww sounds lush!

@Riverlee that surprises me. Passenger are in my want to see list.

Best has to be Lionel Richie. He gave such a good show and I wasn’t even a fan. The killers were fantastic when they supported U2 in Cardiff in 2005.

Feel bad saying this after the sad news that’s just been announced but worst was the Script a couple of summers ago. Danny was struggling with his voice and the sound was off. They were supporting pink this summer so I was hoping a good support would help me get over that bad concert. I’m not sure that’ll happen now though.

Ah Charles Bradley what a voice. So lucky you got to see him live

OMD always give a great concert - and Depeche Mode, Human League
But the best have to be Madness - great fun

The worst was The Cure in Leeds last December - no atmosphere at all, had expected so much more

Oh I’m surprised by the cure I thought they’d be really good live & that there would be an amazing atmosphere!
