NOW CLOSED

Tesco F&F are looking for 300 Mumsnetters with a child in primary school aged 5-10 to try out their school uniform range. Each tester will be given a £20 voucher to spend in their local Tesco to buy and test out their school uniform range in the last few weeks of term. Save’s having to do the back to school shop at the end of summer!

Here’s what Tesco F&F has to say: “Tesco uniforms are our best uniforms yet and with features such as reinforced knees on trousers, As-New technology, Teflon coating (eco-friendly) and much more, we’re confident that they will last and last and last.”

Testers will be sent their vouchers w/c 2nd July and will be required to go to a Tesco store that week to buy a new set of school uniform for their DC, including shirts/polo’s, trousers, skirts, shorts, dresses, and jumpers - whatever your child wears to school! We will need testers to try out the new uniform at school w/c 9th and 16th July and to leave their feedback on the uniform on a thread on Mumsnet and by filling out a short survey w/c 23rd July. Please only sign up if you are able to test the uniform in this timeframe.

All testers who complete all forms of feedback will be entered into a prize draw where one MNer will win a £300 Tesco voucher.

If you’re interested, and would like to take part, please sign up here.

We will be in touch with selected testers soon.

Thanks and good luck,
MNHQ

Feedback so far. Went to Tesco’s with voucher in hand. Sadly I struggled to spend it as there was one set of shorts and one pack of polo shirts in the right size. This is reminiscent of every time I try to buy school uniform. I end up trudging around all the supermarkets getting one pack here and another there...safe to say that I have no brand loyalty as I just buy it where I can find it.

I’m slightly baffled by the girls polo shirts having little scallops on them (I guess it means you have to buy twice if you have a boy and a girl?). But I have sons so having worked out that most of the polo shirts in stock were ‘girly’ I didn’t worry too much more. Lady who searched the stock room for me was lovely but came up empty handed. I went back a week later. Nothing at all in age 6-7. Sigh!

The ones I did manage to find (there were no grey socks at all in the right size) have worn fine. Like all his uniform they come home looking like he’s cleaned the floor with them (and then wiped the whiteboard with his white polo shirt) so they get washed frequently. A little too soon to tell if they’ll last longer, I fear.

For me availability is key...this is a large Tesco Extra and the same was true all through last August. When we needed new tshirts at Xmas (he’d grown) I couldn’t even order them in.

SmileAndNod · 14/07/2018 17:08

My voucher only arrived yesterday so I went into our nearest tesco extra and was very disappointed with the choice.

I have 3 dc between 5 and 10 and struggled to find anything for any of them. Ended up buying trousers for eldest (the only grey pair in age 10-11 so may not even fit) and a pack of polo shirts. Nothing for the girls in our school colours and only a grey skirt in age 3-4 or black trousers.

First impressions are not good. Relieved to see that it appears to be a nationwide issue though.

Otterspotter · 15/07/2018 11:48

Have managed to buy a 2 pack of boys shorts and trousers in the correct size. No polo shirts available in the right colour. My son has worn the shorts already and though I think they will be quite hard wearing, I don’t really like the ‘texture’ of the material and prefer the M&S/Sainsbury’s one’s we have bought previously.

BrieAndChilli · 15/07/2018 13:09

Our local Tesco although does sell some clothes (mainly pants, socks and tights and then about 2 items of actual clothes) didn’t have any uniform so I went to the massive Tesco extra in the nearest city.
They have a bigger clothes department but thier uniform selection was appalling.
DD wanted boys white short sleeved shirts as the girls ones have capped sleeves that restrict movement when doing cartwheels!! Nothing in her size, no summer dresses in her size, no shorts or cullottes which I was really looking for in this weather.
No polo shirts in her size.
I also looked for DS1 age 11 and DS2 age 7 and there was barely anything in thier size either.

DD is a very active (but girly girl) so she wants nice shorts, playsuits, Colluttes and comfy tops.

Without going much further afield (which I haven had the time to do) it not sure what we will be able to test!

tinkerbellemum · 15/07/2018 22:31

2 wasted trips to Tesco and the only girls uniform was long sleeved white shirts for aged 13. The store said they won't be putting stock out till the 3nd of the month.

TARNYS · 16/07/2018 11:12

Hi can anyone help me. Where do we give feedback on the clothes. Ty

mrsoutnumbered · 16/07/2018 12:27

@TARNYS I think the feedback thread goes live next Monday, so we'll probably be emailed a link once it's up!

TARNYS · 16/07/2018 12:36

Thank you for your help.

PooFlower · 16/07/2018 14:29

I have also struggled to get the uniform.
I got a skirt, dress and some polo shirts but the choice was poor and I am worried I have ended up with old stock as the dress and skirt were very crumpled.
DD has worn them to school today so I will do a full review once I have washed the uniform.
Could someone from MNHQ please clarify if there has been a problem with the product test. It seems likely that many of us have got old stock due to the new stock not yet being available?

Doobedo · 16/07/2018 15:48

I purchased the uniform and compared it to a competitor’s uniform. I picked the extra sized uniform as my son is not a lightweight and noted that it’s much more roomy than the competitors, which is great as I really don’t want to be buying 2 sizes plus bigger than his age. Also my son has sensory issues and doesn’t like scratchy textures. I found both the tops and the trousers to have a soft smooth texture, again superior to the competitor. My son wore the items and the top being thin and light is cooler than previous tops. Trousers are comfy and have plenty of room. They appear to be well made and robust too. Thank you Mumsnet and F&F!

CremeDeSudo · 16/07/2018 20:50

I had a mailshot advertising the new uniform today..is it only just in stores?

PickledWilly · 16/07/2018 21:40

SO, as there is a lack of a feedback thread at the moment I will begin here. The dress is lovely - sizing great, nice material. Washed well and didn't need to iron - pleats looked great. My daughter loves it. Socks are her favourites (she has sensory issues and the frilly socks in a size smaller are our go to sock!). Unfortunately the t shirts have not fared well. Shrunk in the wash and stained badly - even vanish and sunlight isn't shifting it. Cycling shorts good however come up a bit small (sizing was either 5-6 or 7-8, went for the 5-6 for my just 6 year old but should have sizes up). They have washed well

Lovelydovey · 17/07/2018 06:55

Three times I’ve been to Tesco and failed to spend my voucher. No black shorts at all, no white polo shirts aged 6-7, no white short sleeved shirts aged 7-8. No black socks (except ribbed) size 9-12. Not impressed - while these may be good value and quality, I prefer to shop where I can actually get what I need.

soma13 · 17/07/2018 11:57

So annoying I went 3 times to Tesco’s nothing there. They are putting it up next week when we have to give our verdict. Anyway I managed to get some socks and some polo shirts. That will have to do for now.

Tefiti2 · 17/07/2018 15:48

Glad it’s not just me who has struggled! There isn’t even anything online - it seems such a waste of Tesco’s money! I managed to get some socks and a pack of polo shirts in my DCs size, couldn’t even spend the whole total of the voucher due to lack of stock..

Batmum33 · 17/07/2018 20:03

Was disappointed in tescos online site and delivery which is shutting down;however ordered skirts and trousers. Both had nice detail with buttons or charms. Material seemed nice and my daughter was comfy in them.

WindyWednesday · 17/07/2018 20:27

It’s a bit confusing that we are testing before the product is launched.

Elliejojo · 17/07/2018 23:35

I’ve also struggled to find what I need and I’ve been to Tesco twice. Only 2 pairs of grey tights in store and not in the right size, nearly every school in the area uses grey tights so I am not surprised there aren’t any. No blue summer dresses left in the right size.
The uniform I bought last year was great though and has washed well...

MimsyBorogroves · 18/07/2018 16:09

Any feedback thread yet?

I've also not been able to get anything.

stresshead84 · 18/07/2018 20:52

Ended up taking the shirts back for a refund. Before I did, I compared them to the Asda ones I had bought. The Tesco ones are a lot slimmer fitting so I didn’t bother buying the next size up. Seemed ridiculous to be buying my 5 year old 8-9 years shirts when he’s by no means the tallest or biggest in his reception class. They weren’t available in 8/9 in our local store anyway.

Also decided to take the trousers back as they were ridiculously long in order to fit around the waist. Couldn’t be bothered to take them up, would rather buy the right ones in the first place.

Went to another Tesco for food shopping, found a similar selection of uniform. Lots of trousers in black and grey (seems very dark grey) and lots of white shirts. They did have a better selection of blue shirts, but still limited. We did manage to get plimsolls in the right size - success!

The shorts are not ideal at the moment, too big really, but sizes were extremely limited. They feel thinner than the usual brand I buy, but seem to be wearing and washing ok.

stresshead84 · 18/07/2018 20:56

Also bought my 3 year old red polos in Tesco a few months ago, in age 5-6 even though he’s of average size and slim build. Got them big as I know polos often shrink. They shrank so much they were same size as his 2-3 t shirts at best. Colour faded after a few washes too. Wouldn’t buy polos at Tesco again. The boys now have to have logo embroidered anyway for school so not an option anyway.

CremeDeSudo · 19/07/2018 11:27

I went back today. Doesn't look like they've restocked since I bought stuff a couple of weeks ago!

IVEgotthePOWER · 19/07/2018 12:54

Went back today also and they have full range of new uniform

Feel like the £20 gift card for the trial was just a waste

Didnt have much cash on me so didnt get anything hopefully they have sizes i need next time i go in

SmileAndNod · 19/07/2018 19:53

Tried again tonight as had to return the items I bought as didn't fit. Went to a smaller tesco and even less choice.
They did seem to be clearing the garden aisle so winner if they're getting ready for back to school?

In any event they couldn't refund on to my gift card so now have cashConfused

IVEgotthePOWER · 20/07/2018 11:28

smile It seems to be the new stock is out this week! Badly timed trial.
