NOW CLOSED

Tesco F&F are looking for 300 Mumsnetters with a child in primary school aged 5-10 to try out their school uniform range. Each tester will be given a £20 voucher to spend in their local Tesco to buy and test out their school uniform range in the last few weeks of term. Save’s having to do the back to school shop at the end of summer!

Here’s what Tesco F&F has to say: “Tesco uniforms are our best uniforms yet and with features such as reinforced knees on trousers, As-New technology, Teflon coating (eco-friendly) and much more, we’re confident that they will last and last and last.”

Testers will be sent their vouchers w/c 2nd July and will be required to go to a Tesco store that week to buy a new set of school uniform for their DC, including shirts/polo’s, trousers, skirts, shorts, dresses, and jumpers - whatever your child wears to school! We will need testers to try out the new uniform at school w/c 9th and 16th July and to leave their feedback on the uniform on a thread on Mumsnet and by filling out a short survey w/c 23rd July. Please only sign up if you are able to test the uniform in this timeframe.

All testers who complete all forms of feedback will be entered into a prize draw where one MNer will win a £300 Tesco voucher.

If you’re interested, and would like to take part, please sign up here.

We will be in touch with selected testers soon.

Thanks and good luck,
MNHQ

@AWhistlingWoman with shoes it seems to depend on the child, well for me anyway! My 8 year old daughter can make a £12 pair of Asda shoes last all year, but my 6 year old son seems to wear holes in the soles within weeks!

CremeDeSudo · 07/07/2018 19:49

I've had my voucher thank you. I went today to purchase some uniform but there was v limited stock in DS's size - t shirts, one jumper. I didn't look at trousers as I'm not going to make him wear them in this heat and I already have some for next year. For some reason you have navy trousers but don't stock navy school shorts, only sports ones? So I've bought 2x packs of T shirts and the one jumper. Not sure what else to do really!

AWhistlingWoman · 07/07/2018 20:37

@mrsoutnumbered I'm sure you're right! DD1's clothes were always in such lovely condition, I could give them away to friends after she'd worn them. DD2 . . . not so much!

LyndaLaHughes · 07/07/2018 21:41

I've had the same issue as others. Went to my local store today and there was very limited stock and not in sizes I need. Managed to grab a few bits to fit across my children to try as that was the best I could do.

torthecatlady · 07/07/2018 23:12

Managed to get some trousers and polo shirts. Not a massive selection in store yet.
Some good prices I must admit, however the polo shirts look really thin.

mummyofcutetwo · 08/07/2018 00:09

I also had issues buying more than a 2-pack of trousers for my DS so I had to buy a 2-pack of trousers for elder DS too and went over the £20 😕

The racks were awful - everything was mixed up, half of the things were missing the cardboard thingy saying what they were and price etc and there was a v poor choice (unless I’d wanted polo shirts, which I didn’t).

Also, not convinced there was any new stock to choose from in trousers and shorts.

I’ve done my best Tesco!

SouthwarkSkaters · 08/07/2018 00:36

Ha, found the thread! I hadn’t really commented before, but I was selected and received my voucher on Friday. Went straight to my local Tesco, which is one of those massive, 24h beasts (extra?). When I got there, I was thoroughly disappointed: there was very little in stock, I really fancied trying some polos but no red in stock below size 10-11. (By the way, what’s the story with polos marked as ‘boys polos’? Is there any difference?)

In the end I managed to find one skirt, one pinafore, a summer playsuit and a couple of cycling shorts, but only because I picked some stuff in 7-8 and some in 8-9 (DD is a tiny, only just 9 year old). The boys side looked better stocked - and I’d have no trouble buying boys’ uniform for DD - but the majority was trousers and it’s a bit too hot for trousers here.

Looking forward to testing what we’ve got, even though I’m not convinced it’s the new and improved range.

Hi, I was lucky enough to be selected to get a voucher to try the uniforms and received it on Friday. I only applied because I had seen uniforms in my local Tesco before and didn't think it would be difficult getting what I needed.
Not true. My local didn't seem to have anything on display and the larger Tesco I went to was very limited no shirts or cardigans and the trousers were both the wrong size and colour :

I'l have to see if I can try further afield Sunday but so far doesn't look promising.

Scoleah · 08/07/2018 11:22

Just went to The Merthyr Tydfil store.
Only Looked at girls Uniform, couldn't get anything for this Warm Weather though! They had lots of white plain Polos (2 pack for £3.50) I managed to Get a pinafore, not the type I normally get with the permanent pleats, it was a soft jersey which I don't normally pick as nightmare to iron, And a Pair of Trousers!

(They did have red gingham dresses in very limited sizes if anyone was needing them, and some blue cardigans , also in small sizes! )

glenthebattleostrich · 08/07/2018 13:23

I've just tried 2 Tesco's and there was almost nothing in my daughter's size. I would have been able to get a long sleeve shirt and a skirt. So I've left it and am happy to post the voucher back.

Scoleah · 08/07/2018 13:55

Sorry forgot to add I had 2 packs of the White Polos, so will test these this week with own Shorts! (As couldn't get skirt or Shorts in her size)

Sairelou · 08/07/2018 14:01

Ah we found some! I managed to get polo shirts, shorts, some pe shorts and socks. I really hope these Teflon coated polo shirts are more stain resistant than last years!

WindyWednesday · 08/07/2018 14:23

I’ve had a bit of a trek to find a Tesco that sells uniform. Very small selection and not in the size I need. Managed to get polo shirts and PE shorts. No dresses or skirts. Asked if they had anymore sizes and was told no, and we aren’t getting anymore.

So I have washed the polos to see how they wash. Will test the pe shorts in the week. Will see if I can find a skirt to go with the polos.

Meinthecorner · 08/07/2018 14:43

Thanks for the voucher. I've been into our superstore today and only found two stands of school uniform and amongst the jumble of shirts no short-sleeved shirts in the size my son needs for next year. I've bought the only two shirts that were available in his current size and we'll see how we go. Bit disappointing already!

TheTurnOfTheScrew · 08/07/2018 16:19

We went to buy uniform today. We'd been to Blackpool this morning, so stopped at the Blackpool Clifton Extra on the way back, assuming it would have a bigger selection than our local regular Tesco. Unfortunately there wasn't much at all in grey, which is our school colour, as opposed to black, where there seemed to be a lot.

We have come back with polos shirts, a skirt which might be a bit on the small size, and a culotte dress. I must say that DD2 is THRILLED with the latter - she's previously worn M&S boys school shorts, and has been Hmm that we've not seen shorts in the girls' department. She's just bounced into the room modelling it, and loves how practical it is.

PS I need to confess that I spent the change on a pack of chocolate ice creams. I hope I haven't breached the terms of the deal too much. They were very nice though. Lots of chocolate sauce hidden in the middle.

TheTurnOfTheScrew · 08/07/2018 16:21

update - skirt fits, and is a smart cut. DD2 is very pleased with her new stuff. thank you. She's very happy to test it next week.

IVEgotthePOWER · 08/07/2018 16:30

Like the sound of the culotte dress! Will be having a look myself tomorrow.

Not the point of the thread i know but my dd has both girls school shorts and a skort. i think both are from next

Bringmewineandcake · 08/07/2018 18:21

I’m glad to hear others are struggling! I went to a big Tesco store a week ago, before I received the voucher because of the time constraints so I wanted to make sure I had some items. The only thing I could get was a 2 pack of polo Tshirts!
I’m planning to go back tomorrow but just had a look on their website to see if I could get it online instead. There is nothing online other than 1 yellow pinafore and 1 navy skirt - neither of any use to me.
I will go back to the store tomorrow and see if they have restocked, otherwise this seems a very oddly timed product test when there are no products available.
I’ll report back tomorrow...

mrsoutnumbered · 08/07/2018 19:02

Yes it is a bit odd. I did a Sainsbury's Tu uniform test a few weeks ago and that went very smoothly - I just ordered online and got it delivered to my local store. The stock was low on a few things but nothing like Tesco.

Perhaps Tesco would've been better off posting the garments to us? If we told them what we wanted? Oh well, can't complain when we're getting something for nothing I suppose!

Toadsrevisited · 08/07/2018 19:53

Received the vouchers but no email. Went to Leeds Roundhay Road but they had hardly any stock, and almost all in black not grey sadly. Much more expensive than Asda too. Do we put all feedback on here please MNHQ or is there a separate thread?

Shraz · 08/07/2018 21:21

And there's hardly anything online. I'm a bit stumped. Will try again tomorrow. Those of you have got the uniform is it old stock or new?

CremeDeSudo · 08/07/2018 21:57

How do we know if it's new or old stock?

Shraz · 09/07/2018 10:08

I'm not sure. Just this was to review new stock. So just wondering if the new stock was being purchased or old, especially as so many of us are having trouble getting anything.

WindyWednesday · 09/07/2018 10:28

I think I had old stock. I don’t know how I’d tell really. But I’m sure if was new it would be labelled as such. I got what little stock they had. I agree it does seem an odd time to do a product test if they don’t have the stock.

The assistant I spoke to said they weren’t getting more stock in, so don’t know what that meant as it was very limited.

IVEgotthePOWER · 09/07/2018 10:49

Well ive been

I managed to get a 2 pack of trousers, some socks and pe shorts for ds1. And some school bobbles for dd with the change.

There were no boys polos in the sizes i needed. No blue jumpers or cardigans. No skirts or pinafores to fit my dd.

I also noticed the white polos they did have, the collar was a dirty yellowish colour. Not nice.
