NOW CLOSED

Tesco F&F are looking for 300 Mumsnetters with a child in primary school aged 5-10 to try out their school uniform range. Each tester will be given a £20 voucher to spend in their local Tesco to buy and test out their school uniform range in the last few weeks of term. Save’s having to do the back to school shop at the end of summer!

Here’s what Tesco F&F has to say: “Tesco uniforms are our best uniforms yet and with features such as reinforced knees on trousers, As-New technology, Teflon coating (eco-friendly) and much more, we’re confident that they will last and last and last.”

Testers will be sent their vouchers w/c 2nd July and will be required to go to a Tesco store that week to buy a new set of school uniform for their DC, including shirts/polo’s, trousers, skirts, shorts, dresses, and jumpers - whatever your child wears to school! We will need testers to try out the new uniform at school w/c 9th and 16th July and to leave their feedback on the uniform on a thread on Mumsnet and by filling out a short survey w/c 23rd July. Please only sign up if you are able to test the uniform in this timeframe.

All testers who complete all forms of feedback will be entered into a prize draw where one MNer will win a £300 Tesco voucher.

If you’re interested, and would like to take part, please sign up here.

We will be in touch with selected testers soon.

Thanks and good luck,
MNHQ

Went to Tesco on Saturday. The uniform section seemed to have shrunk a bit but still looked like there was plenty there. Unfortunately lots of trousers in the same sizes and style, so not much choice in the size we needed but we did find some in an alternative style to what I would usually opt for. The fit well around the waist now and have a bit of room for growth. A bit long in the leg, but I’ll just turn them under and re-hem.

Grey shorts were particularly sparse, could only get a bigger size than we wanted, but the elastic adjustable waist will means they can be made to fit and will be fine by next summer. Both the shorts and trousers feel thinner than our current brand but I’m hopeful the reinforced knees will mean they last!

Blue shirts were extremely limited too with only a couple of packs compared to rack after rack of white ones. We found one pack to try though. Expected them to fit as they are age 7-8 and DS1 is 5, but they are tight across the top of his back. Compared them to the Asda ones I bought a few weeks ago (as DS1 has to wear a proper shirt and tie next year) and the Tesco ones are a much slimmer fit across the chest/back. Going to return them and try and order the next size up.

Might try the shoes for my DS (3) who is starting school nursery in September as I liked the ones with the toe bumper, but will probably stick to M&S for DS (5) as he’s really tough on shoes and they are the only ones we’ve found that last. Couldn’t find plimsolls in the right size which was disappointing as they were something I intended to buy as his feet have grown.

So far, a mixed bag!

Will see how they wear and wash next...

Well I managed to get some bits today but it’s more wintery than I’d have liked! No red summer dresses so I’ve got a pinafore, a pair of trousers and a couple of cardis. Will have to hope for some rain between now and the end of the testing period!
The trousers were absolutely filthy, like they’d been dragged round the stockroom floor but it was the only pair in her size so I’ve taken them anyway.

Sixgeese · 09/07/2018 20:39

I went to the massive 24 hour Lea Valley store over the weekend, there was nothing that was the right colour or size for DD(9). I found a member of staff, asked if they had anything else and was told no and if I wanted I could drive around a few more stores.

I went today to a slightly smaller store and found a playsuit in a size that just fits (no growing room), so managed to get that, a cardigan (they had 1 fortunately the right colour and size) and ankle socks.

It seems really strange we are being asked to test this week but there is little or no uniform to test.

WindyWednesday · 09/07/2018 21:19

I know this isn’t the feedback thread, but I’ve washed on pair of the pe shorts and compared to the other pair in the pack and they’ve shrunk 1cm in the wash.

fraggle84 · 09/07/2018 21:33

I’m not impressed

Stock levels in store are awful, no red jumpers or polo shirts, 1 pack of white polo shirts in his size (7-8), no grey shorts so ended up with trousers but had to buy 8-9 as no 7-8 and they are far too big. Drove 25 miles each way to the superstore.

Would Tesco consider sending us what we need in the correct sizes? Seems like no ones getting the uniform that’s appropriate for the weather in the correct size/colour in stores

WindyWednesday · 09/07/2018 22:12

Don’t look like anyone’s impressed yet! I’m guessing that Tesco want the mumsnet rated logo on the uniform.

Maybe Tesco will send us some uniform that is the new stock, in a size we need?

Shraz · 09/07/2018 23:57

Had better luck today. Went to a smaller express store and they had shirts, polos and trousers. I was able to get dd size. They had the teflon technology stamp on the front.
The trousers have come up really big. She's wearing the same size in a different brand but these literally are falling to her ankles and no belt hoops either.

KellylMetcalf · 10/07/2018 20:07

I went to Tesco over the weekend and managed to easily get my daughter a pack of polo tops, a skirt and new shoes. They had lots of choice in my store, Iv never before managed to go in and buy everything I needed in one go! Let’s hope it all stands the test!

RandomUsers · 10/07/2018 20:50

Very limited school uniform in my local Tesco metro. Seemed as though my dd's school colour (yellow) wasn't even in stock.
We finally got a pair of school shoes, cycling shorts and socks.
She's got assembly tomorrow so she'll be putting these on.
Hopefully the shoes will be as good as the ones we get from Asda

FlowerPotMum · 10/07/2018 21:05

I received my voucher promptly .. thank you.
I went to our huge Tesco Extra and the range of uniform was shocking.
My daughter is age ten and I found literally one pleated skirt to fit her. It feels thinner than our usual Asda one, but fits well both in waist and length (she's 10).
I also found a lovely playsuit in blue Gingham. Bought age 10-11 ( no bigger ones there). I asked the changing room assistant if anymore were in stock, she wasn't very keen to look, and none could be found. I refuse to pay for click and collect so we opted for the 10-11.
It fits ok, no growing room, DD is average size, but I've had to snip the arms to make them wider. It's also snug across the shoulders. DD was gutted that she can't reach the monkey bars in it!.
We found a pair of plain black trousers aged 10-11. Not tried these yet.
Not that impressed so far, sorry Tesco.

babycakes1010 · 11/07/2018 07:42

So far I've been to 2 stores and haven't found anything in my dd size am heading into a different town today so fingers crossed they have more of a selection.

Sairelou · 11/07/2018 08:15

Is there a feedback thread yet?
The top polo shirt I washed and tumbled according to instructions. LOOK HOW MUCH IT HAS SHRUNK!
And I'm not sure what the "Teflon coating" was meant to do, but it hasn't come out that clean either.
If I had paid for it then I would be taking it back for a refund!

@Sairelou !!!!!

Papu5000 · 11/07/2018 11:56

I went to 3 Tesco in my area, and the only thing I could find was some school socks,

There was lots of stock for boys, but for girls not much and not in the right colour, the ones in the right colour were in small sizes or much bigger than needed (we need 7-8)

Socks do seem good though

babycakes1010 · 11/07/2018 11:58

I have managed today...after driving to a different town...to get a pack of polo shirts a skirt and some tights! But after seeing @Sairelou picture of the polo shirts I'm already dreading washing them!

fraggle84 · 11/07/2018 12:01

Ive had the same problem with the polo shirts

Washed at 40 and used vanish, definitely shrunk when put next to an unwashed one and stained with suncream, gravy & grass

WindyWednesday · 11/07/2018 13:03

I washed the pe shorts and measured against the unwashed pair and they’d shrunk by 1cm. Going to test the polo shorts in the same way.

That is shocking after one wash.

The feedback thread is going live in the week of the 23rd I think.

Sairelou · 11/07/2018 13:31

@WindyWednesday it's awful isn't it?! It's the least I would expect to be able to wash and tumble dry according to instructions without shrinkage!

TheTurnOfTheScrew · 11/07/2018 13:49

I hate to join the chorus of griping, but the playsuit that DD2 loves so much has already bobbled considerably after one wear and wash - standard 40 degree synthetics wash and line dried. It's a shame, as it was both smart and practical and I would otherwise have bought more out of my own pocket.

WindyWednesday · 11/07/2018 14:44

@Sairelou If it’s like that after one wash it’s not going to last the term. I was shocked the pe shorts have shrunk so much in one wash, they were line dried.

FamilyLawAdvice · 11/07/2018 20:45

Been to two Tesco's no blue polo shirts

No pe kits

So we came away with some shorts, Trousers and a jumper

Trousers and shorts will be jumping in the wash soon dreading the shrinking that may happen

WindyWednesday · 11/07/2018 21:04

I’m going to take a photo of the Polo shrinkage.

Sairelou · 12/07/2018 07:41

Another photo to show shrinkage (I didn't quite line it up with the one underneath, so you could see I wasn't pulling it down too far!) This was yesterday's wash

That’s shocking. Also it looks so grey. Mine has shrunk a bit, but not as much. I’ll post a photo.

WindyWednesday · 12/07/2018 09:24

Washed at 40, line dried.
