This is the feedback thread for the Mumsnetters who have been testing monthly subscription boxes Pink Parcel and/or bettybox with their daughters.

Here’s what Pink Parcel and bettybox have to say:

Pink Parcel: “Pink Parcel is the UK’s No1 period subscription box that unites periods and pampering to make your time of the month fuss-free and fabulous. Delivered to your door monthly on a day of your choosing each box contains over £40 of tampons, pads and beauty products including a mix of cult beauty brands, herbal teas and artisan chocolates. You can select your choice of tampons, pads or a mix of both from all your trusted brands. This convenient box ensures you’ll never run out of products again.”

bettybox: “bettybox is the perfect pick me up for girls. As well as all their trusted tampons and/or pads, they can expect sweet treats, make-up, stationery and more all from brands specially selected for teens. Choose from your favourite tampon and pad brands and receive your monthly box with treats worth up to £30 delivered for free directly to your door. You’ll never have to worry about running out of pads again!”

Testers, please give your feedback by answering the following questions, as well as completing the survey we’ll be sending you via email shortly.

  1. What did you think about receiving your pads and tampons directly to your door each month?
  2. Do you feel PinkParcel/bettybox is good value for money?
  3. What one thing - if anything - would you change about the box/es?
  4. Would you recommend Pink Parcel/bettybox to a friend/family member?
  5. Did you find you had too little, too much or just enough pads and tampons and how did you find the mix of tampon and pad products?

All testers who give the required feedback will be entered into a prize draw where one tester will win a £300 voucher.

Thanks and good luck!

This is without doubt a luxury item. The idea of having sanitary products sent through my door I'm not really bothered about. My daughter loved it though.
Again I say it's a luxury extra. Truly I don't think it's value for money as of course it's cheaper to go out & buy a box of towels/tampax But as something nice for my daughter who has only just started her periods I would consider signing up.
Im not sure if I would change anything about the boxes. It did make me feel a little guilty though all those mini cardboard boxes although they were well presented.
I would recommend this product to others for their new to periods daughters. As a nice 'yes periods are cack but here's a treat' thing.
I thought there was just enough of everything. & there was a good variety.

  1. What did you think about receiving your pads and tampons directly to your door each month?

A great idea although they were not the ideal tampons/pads I would have chosen myself to buy. Also didn’t come to the door as it wouldn’t fit through the letterbox!

  1. Do you feel PinkParcel/bettybox is good value for money?

Yes It was good value when you added up the value of some of the products included with it

  1. What one thing - if anything - would you change about the box/es?

I would label the individual towels/tampons it was unclear which was which. And use less card- there was way too much and this has put me off subscribing for my daughter.
Also it didn’t fit through my letter box.

  1. Would you recommend Pink Parcel/bettybox to a friend/family member?

Yes I would for a teenager but not for an adult. My daughter loved hers and the extras were good quality and were “cool” to a brand obsessed teenager.

  1. Did you find you had too little, too much or just enough pads and tampons and how did you find the mix of tampon and pad products?

Too little of everything for me as they sadly don’t offer super plus absorbency. The Mix was about right. For DD (pass only) there was just enough.

SirTrumpalot · 28/03/2018 12:37
  1. What did you think about receiving your pads and tampons directly to your door each month?

It’s a good idea for a novelty for tweens/teens who have just started their periods but for older teens/adults it’s a very expensive way to get your sanpro

  1. Do you feel PinkParcel/bettybox is good value for money?

I really don’t. The gifts are just free sample type things and a pack of body form is usually on offer for £1

  1. What one thing - if anything - would you change about the box/es?

I have a good sized letter box and the box doesn’t fit

  1. Would you recommend Pink Parcel/bettybox to a friend/family member?

Maybe as a one off but not a subscription

  1. Did you find you had too little, too much or just enough pads and tampons and how did you find the mix of tampon and pad products?

Only pads in both boxes but the right amount

The whole name data breach mix up was a complete farce and the promised box turned up later than stated. My daughters (10 and 11) loved it but it’s just so expensive for what it is. There is too much packaging and I was very underwhelmed by the adult box.

FoxTeaParty · 28/03/2018 12:53
  1. What did you think about receiving your pads and tampons directly to your door each month?

-The idea itself is a good idea but in practice it didn't work for me. I use a specific type of pads and tampons, neither of which were an option. I don't use them for any other reason than they are the only products that I dont leak with. Not worth leaking just to have pads delivered.
I did try to use the alternatives I ordered as they are the same brand but it just reminded me why I use the ones I do.

  1. Do you feel PinkParcel/bettybox is good value for money?

-Not really. For the price I could buy alot of the items I need and a few treats that I would use.

  1. What one thing - if anything - would you change about the box/es?

-The treats are obviously not tailored to the individual. I think that would be a good idea considering the cost.

  1. Would you recommend Pink Parcel/bettybox to a friend/family member?

-No. It didnt make enough of an impression on me to recommend it.

  1. Did you find you had too little, too much or just enough pads and tampons and how did you find the mix of tampon and pad products?

-The amount seemed fine. Unfortunately because they aren't the ones I use I cant say for sure. My daughter seemed to have more than enough though.

DD’s second BB box has arrived with her actual name on so she will be really pleased to see another one when she gets home from school!
The Nip+Fab moisturiser is a particular highlight, her skin looks much less greasy and has cleared up since she’s been using it so I would have definitely repurchased that item off the back of receiving the free sample.

madeyemoodysmum · 28/03/2018 14:19

I really enjoyed the concept of the boxes particularly, my teen who was very excited by her free products. I felt the products were well matched for the age of the recipient.

The sanitary products are good quality, it would be nice to know which brands they were because the packaging was very generic.

I am not sure I would go ahead and subscribe however as the survey price of £12.99 seems a lot to me when you're basically getting a few free samples and a couple of nice small beauty products. You have no say over shades, so who knows what colours you will end up with if you are receiving make up.
My usual sanitary ware only cost me a couple of pounds a month so it seems a massive jump. But the concept of getting a treat every month appeals and I could see how it would particularly appeal to teenagers dealing with their first year of womanhood and the trials and tribulations that would bring.

If the cost came down to under £10 I feel it would be more appealing to myself.

DiabloKitten · 28/03/2018 14:20

What did you think about receiving your pads and tampons directly to your door each month?
Great idea! Not like I've a set date when I come on 😅 I'm used to it though which is lucky!

  1. Do you feel PinkParcel/bettybox is good value for money?
A little steep but for convince of delivering to your door and a few treats to help its great!
  1. What one thing - if anything - would you change about the box/es?
Not as such, maybe not the tea samples add chocolate would be a great one for the pink box 😊
  1. Would you recommend Pink Parcel/bettybox to a friend/family member?
I already have!! I have a friend with four daughters I think she already ordered!
  1. Did you find you had too little, too much or just enough pads and tampons and how did you find the mix of tampon and pad products?
I only had the pads as I've never like tampons and never will.
BookShop · 28/03/2018 14:42
  1. What did you think about receiving your pads and tampons directly to your door each month?

This is so convenient. I know it is cheaper to purchase them elsewhere but I don't care. I liked opening the surprises in the box. My DD enjoyed receiving her box and it gave us a springboard from which to talk about the products more and be open our these intimate products. I do my best to encourage an open environment to talk but sometimes, especially for younger girls, it is hard to openly talk about personal issues such as periods. The boxes normalised periods. I wish I had this product when younger. The box felt well thought out and gave us enough of all the products.

  1. Do you feel PinkParcel/bettybox is good value for money?

They are OK. You can buy the products cheaper elsewhere but the little gifts that came with them made them feel special. I am not sure I would continue with my box but for DD we are going to sign up.

  1. What one thing - if anything - would you change about the box/es?

Nothing. We loved them.

  1. Would you recommend Pink Parcel/bettybox to a friend/family member?

Absolutely.

  1. Did you find you had too little, too much or just enough pads and tampons and how did you find the mix of tampon and pad products?

Surprisingly I had enough. I suffer from heavy periods and was rather concerned when I saw the months worth. Despite my fears, there was enough of everything!

BookShop · 28/03/2018 14:44

The box was a delight to receive and it’s contents cheered up DD.

  1. What did you think about receiving your pads and tampons directly to your door each month?
It sounds more convenient than it really is, as the boxes are way too big for our letterbox. Tesco can deliver than directly to my door too, with gin and everything else I need :)
  1. Do you feel PinkParcel/bettybox is good value for money?
It depends what's in the box, really. Dd liked the first bettybox more than the second in terms of gifts. I thought the PinkParcel was good value for money.
  1. What one thing - if anything - would you change about the box/es?
Too big, and why so many boxes?
  1. Would you recommend Pink Parcel/bettybox to a friend/family member?
If they had money to spare and enjoyed treating themselves. perhaps, but I don't really talk pad shopping with my friends and family.
  1. Did you find you had too little, too much or just enough pads and tampons and how did you find the mix of tampon and pad products?
It was a good mix - just enough.
scotchpie · 28/03/2018 15:02
  1. What did you think about receiving your pads and tampons directly to your door each month?

Goodidea and great selection of products to use.

  1. Do you feel PinkParcel/bettybox is good value for money?

Not really, when you add the cost up excluding the gift box it was no more than £3/4.

  1. What one thing - if anything - would you change about the box/es?

Firstly, make the box smaller so it actually fits in the letter box and use alternative inside for each section. Too much waste.

  1. Would you recommend Pink Parcel/bettybox to a friend/family member?

Yes I would, if it was much cheaper half the price

  1. Did you find you had too little, too much or just enough pads and tampons and how did you find the mix of tampon and pad products?

Definitely needed more products, especially night time when I change at least 3 times.

I cannot comment on DD's box yet as the first one arrived in the wrong name and was sent back and the replacement hasn't arrived.

Intotheclouds · 28/03/2018 15:08
  1. What did you think about receiving your pads and tampons directly to your door each month?
I think the idea in general is good but like others have said you can have them delivered too your door with the rest of your shopping. Also the inconvenience of having to go to the post office to collect it defeat the object.
  1. Do you feel PinkParcel/bettybox is good value for money?

-Not really. For the same price I could get the same pads and a few treats/beauty products that I could actually use/eat.
I'm allergic to coconut so couldn't eat the treat even if I wanted too. I think it would be a good idea to ask about allergies for this reason.

  1. What one thing - if anything - would you change about the box/es?

Being more individualized with the treats and less boxes.

  1. Would you recommend Pink Parcel/bettybox to a friend/family member?

-No. It didnt make enough of an impression on me to recommend it.

  1. Did you find you had too little, too much or just enough pads and tampons and how did you find the mix of tampon and pad products?

No, although I'm not a heavy bleeder my periods do last quite along time so I had nowhere near enough.

athingthateveryoneneeds · 28/03/2018 15:15
  1. What did you think about receiving your pads and tampons directly to your door each month?

It's fine, but of the 3 boxes we received no postman attempted to put the box through our letterbox. So a missed parcel would need to be collected, making the entire experience a hassle rather than a convenience.

  1. Do you feel PinkParcel/bettybox is good value for money?

Not for me. I am too particular over what snacks/treats/beauty products I like to use.

  1. What one thing - if anything - would you change about the box/es?

Size of the parcel.

  1. Would you recommend Pink Parcel/bettybox to a friend/family member?

I would possibly mention it as an option but in a neutral way. I've been put off by the name and address mix-up tbh

  1. Did you find you had too little, too much or just enough pads and tampons and how did you find the mix of tampon and pad products?

The combination was fine, we ticked no tampons and received only pads.

----

Like other posters I am unhappy that my child's name was mixed up with other people's addresses and have serious concerns about data protection that this company has utterly failed to address. What a shambles.

nerfqueen · 28/03/2018 15:21
  1. What did you think about receiving your pads and tampons directly to your door each month?

Great idea, even at my age (46) I find that some months I run out as ive forgotten to stock up

  1. Do you feel PinkParcel/bettybox is good value for money?

Not really, I only spend about £10 a month for myself and daughter, 2 boxes a month would cost over double that. I guess if you wanted all the little gifts then cost wise its fair value. But the extras weren't something we would buy monthly

  1. What one thing - if anything - would you change about the box/es?

The size of the box to fit through the letterbox. Also the option to not have the extras so cost would be less

  1. Would you recommend Pink Parcel/bettybox to a friend/family member?

Maybe, its a nice idea for young girls just starting their periods

  1. Did you find you had too little, too much or just enough pads and tampons and how did you find the mix of tampon and pad products?

Not enough pads

MumofthreeandBean · 28/03/2018 15:31
  1. What did you think about receiving your pads and tampons directly to your door each month?

I think my daughter liked the idea more than me, she also liked my treats more than I did.

  1. Do you feel PinkParcel/bettybox is good value for money?

A little expensive for me personally, I shop around for deals so would never pay that much for sanitary wear and a few treats I may or may not use

  1. What one thing - if anything - would you change about the box/es?

Size - didn’t fit through my letterbox
Plastic packaging made a reference to being fragile this month - postmen are not stupid and would guess at what was inside, I know my postman so we discussed what it was but I don’t think many want people knowing when they are in their period

  1. Would you recommend Pink Parcel/bettybox to a friend/family member?

I wouldn’t but I think my daughter would recommend the Betty box to her friends

  1. Did you find you had too little, too much or just enough pads and tampons and how did you find the mix of tampon and pad products?

I think there were about the right amount, maybe a few too many towels as neither of us use many of those.

I am also worried about the mess up on addresses ☹️

SweetMoon · 28/03/2018 15:56

Here is our feedback:

1. What did you think about receiving your pads and tampons directly to your door each month?
Me: I really like this idea actually. Its something to look forward to.
DD: I liked receiving the box, it was exciting to see what was inside.

2. Do you feel PinkParcel/bettybox is good value for money?
Me: yes, I thought they were.
DD: Not sure, I don't know really as I don't buy these usually, mum does.

3. What one thing - if anything - would you change about the box/es?
Me: They don't fit through our letterbox, so would like them smaller but thats just being picky.
DD: I'd prefer a more interesting drink than tea. And more chocolate! And probably more age appropriate gifts. I don't wear lipstick for example, I'm only 14.

4. Would you recommend Pink Parcel/bettybox to a friend/family member?
Me: Yes
DD: Yes

5. Did you find you had too little, too much or just enough pads and tampons and how did you find the mix of tampon and pad products?
Me: The right amount, I have a couple left over but another month I would likely need to topup.
DD: Not quite enough.

AnneOfCleavage · 28/03/2018 16:05

My feedback re Pink parcel:

  1. What did you think about receiving your pads and tampons directly to your door each month? The box did not fit through the letterbox despite us having quite a decent sized one so the hassle of having to go to the P.O to collect and queue up every month is not particularly appealing. It was a treat not having to go out and buy them last month.
  2. Do you feel PinkParcel/bettybox is good value for money? I believe the box would cost c£12.50 a month and bearing in mind I would usually stock up on sanpro when on offer it is quite expensive especially as the extras aren't always going to be things i would generally use e.g bright red lipstick
  3. What one thing - if anything - would you change about the box/es? I liked the main box and the little boxes inside although it does create a fair bit of recycling. I would also include chocolate as that is what I crave each month and didn't have that - DD did though but she wouldn't share.
  4. Would you recommend Pink Parcel/bettybox to a friend/family member? I already have recommended it to my sister however because of the size of the box not fitting through letterboxes she probably wouldn't sign up and it is quite pricey for sanpro.
  5. Did you find you had too little, too much or just enough pads and tampons and how did you find the mix of tampon and pad products?
I ordered a mix of both and thought it was a good mix but not quite enough for me of normal pads. I don't use the night time ones over a couple of days as find the flow subsides to use normal at night after 2 days or so. Also i found the pads quite "plastic-ey" feeling and I most certainly do not like perfumed ones which is what all these were - I am sure i ticked non deo ones. I ended up using a few of my DD's to try as hers were softer so a different type and also non deo. I also found the liners quite small and so didn't use them and so if they come as part of the order i would accumulate too many and would end up chucking them. I gave them to my niece.

DD's feedback re BettyBox 1 & 2

  1. What did you think about receiving your pads and tampons directly to your door each month? I loved getting my first box and was so excited to get one for the next month too.
  2. Do you feel PinkParcel/bettybox is good value for money? I think it is good value as i loved all the extras but it's not me paying for it. If i was paying then it would be too much to pay.
  3. What one thing - if anything - would you change about the box/es? I would put more chocolate in. I had truffles in the first box which I LOVED and a hot choc type drink sachet but in the 2nd box it was a tea sachet and cocunut snack which was meh for me (I am 13). Most definitely prefer chocolate.
  4. Would you recommend Pink Parcel/bettybox to a friend/family member? I would.
  5. Did you find you had too little, too much or just enough pads and tampons and how did you find the mix of tampon and pad products?
I had just about enough pads and I liked how they felt; they felt soft. i didn't really need the small liner ones so if they come every month i would gather too many so would be a waste. I also didn't need all the night time ones either so perhaps more of the normal may be better.
KitNCaboodle · 28/03/2018 17:29
  1. What did you think about receiving your pads and tampons directly to your door each month?

Good idea - means that I’m unlikely to run out or get caught short.

  1. Do you feel PinkParcel/bettybox is good value for money?

On face value, yes. But you’re paying for beauty products that you may not want or get along with.

  1. What one thing - if anything - would you change about the box/es?

I would label the individual towels/tampons as I can’t remember which I chose for myself and DD and it’s hard to tell from looking at the packet which are normal/heavy flow etc.

  1. Would you recommend Pink Parcel/bettybox to a friend/family member?

My DD enjoyed receiving hers and I would consider getting it for her for a few more months.

  1. Did you find you had too little, too much or just enough pads and tampons and how did you find the mix of tampon and pad products?

I had enough of each - just. If I had a longer cycle then this may not have been the case.

bertdynamite · 28/03/2018 17:38
  1. To be honest I wasn't bothered about having the towels and tampons delivered. It's no hassle buying them in the chemist or supermarket and I always stock pile them. However it was a total treat to get the little gifts, and my daughter loved that aspect of it.
  1. It probably is good value with all the extras, but that isn't what I'd buy myself, so it would work out more expensive.
  1. I would label the tampons and towels, so that if people decided to change their subscription they could easily know what they had already tried.
  1. Yes, I would, if they did have disposable income.
  1. We had just enough. I would always want to be sent too many though. My periods can be erratic, and I would not want to be caught out.
PutYourBracesTogether · 28/03/2018 17:53

DDs second box turned up this evening.
Box was broken and order was wrong but she was pleased with the blemish wand.

I have the Trifle lipstick if anyone wants it?

FartAtTheMaddingCrowd · 28/03/2018 18:36
  1. What did you think about receiving your pads and tampons directly to your door each month?

This is a good idea and saves buying them in advance.

  1. Do you feel PinkParcel/bettybox is good value for money?

Yes, more so BettyBox as daughter l8ked all the treats. Not so much in Pink Parcel that I would use (herbal tea bags for instance).

  1. What one thing - if anything - would you change about the box/es?

Daughter said the name sounded like ‘Sweaty Betty’
A bit over packaged but I liked the colours of the BettyBox in particular. Would have been nice to have something that wasn’t pink for girls.

  1. Would you recommend Pink Parcel/bettybox to a friend/family member?

Maybe

  1. Did you find you had too little, too much or just enough pads and tampons and how did you find the mix of tampon and pad products?

There were enough, although a variety of tampon sizes would have been good.

ailsasheldon · 28/03/2018 18:40
  1. What did you think about receiving your pads and tampons directly to your door each month? I think it’s a fabulous idea. Takes away form the stigma of buying products when you are a tween/teen and gives you a treat to boot,
  2. Do you feel PinkParcel/bettybox is good value for money? I think it was good value. Sanitary products are pricey and they were packaged in a lovely way
  3. What one thing - if anything - would you change about the box/es? The betty boxes arrived very battered
  4. Would you recommend Pink Parcel/bettybox to a friend/family member? Most definitely
  5. Did you find you had too little, too much or just enough pads and tampons and how did you find the mix of tampon and pad products? I thought it was a good mix and perfect amount for some at home and some to take out and about.
We have made some videos, so I will post those on twitter.
Miaow1234 · 28/03/2018 19:20
  1. A great idea as sanitary products aren’t something I remember to buy.
  2. I don’t think so as I can buy the pads cheaper. The products were nice but some a bit random like a blackhead remover was in the Betty box.
  3. Products based on a brief questionnaire you fill in so you get treats suited to you like they do for the Birch boxes.
  4. A great treat for when you first start your periods but not a ongoing service.
  5. Amounts were just right. An option of organic/eco friendly pads/ tampons would be good too.
