This thread is for the 250 Mumsnetters who are trying out the new silicone c-section gel from Kelo-cote.

Below are the first set of feedback questions, more will be added at a later date. Please answer the questions below and add any other comments you may have.

Q1 How easy or difficult did you find Kelo-cote to apply?

Q1 - I found it very easy to apply and it has become a very quick and simple part of my daily routine.

Q2 - Not very long at all - about a minute maybe up to 2 minutes on occasion if I had applied it slightly thicker. It was quicker that it seemed from the directions.

Q3 - It was quite thick and sticky - I found I had to apply it to my scar straight away or else it become almost too thick and sticky to apply.

Q4 - No

I find it easy to apply, just seem to use a lot of it each time as it states not to rub in (c section scar quite long)

Q2. On average how long did you find it took Kelo-cote to dry? Was this a longer or shorter time than you expected?

It takes about 5 mins to dry, which was a bit longer than expected, but not a problem.

Q3. How did you find the feel of the gel? e.g. texture, stickiness etc

The gel feels quite strange, a little sticky and dries to a kind of coating over scar.

Q4. Before taking part in this product test, had you ever tried Kelo-cote or any other scar reducing product before? If so, which one(s)?

I've never tried it before. I used BioOil before but it just seemed to moisturise, rather than fade scar. This definitely works better.

I'm 18 weeks post c section and have been using kelocote gel since the 22nd December.

Q1. The gel is easy to apply just squirt on your (clean) finger and apply along the length of the scar. It's stickier and thicker than I expected and I find that it's not as easy to spread as I thought it would be.

Q2. It takes a few minutes to dry around 3-5 to be completely dry. This is a bit longer than I expected is not really a problem I just factor it into my morning/nightime routine.

Q3. As I said in q1 it is a lot thicker and stickier than I expected.

Q4. I've never used any scar reducing product previously.

Q1. To begin with, I found it a little hard to apply the gel because my scar was red, bumpy and raised, so I had to use a little more and rub it in. It is now easy to apply because my scar has started to flatten.
Q2. It did take 10mins to dry for the first week because of the slight difficulty in application, but now takes 5mins.
Q3. The gel can be a little sticky, but it's fine once dry. As above, once the texture of the scar improves, the gel feels quite smooth.
Q4. I have not tried any other product for scars before Kelo-cote.

My scar has improved so much already since using the Kelo-cote gel. It was itchy, sore, red and raised. My scar is less bumpy, smoother, not itching and has turned a pale pink colour. It really was taking far too long to heal before starting the trial. I'm very grateful to Mumsnet and Kelo-cote for giving me the opportunity to try this.

I should add, I am now 5 months post-c-sec

Oh fab - I've been waiting for this thread to begin! I've been reviewing Kelo-Cote for some time now and applying twice daily on my scar. There's is definitely a visible improvement and the soreness (scar is only 8 months old) has abated entirely. It's no longer red and bumpy and has turned a nice silvery shade which is barely visible. I'll be continuing with the product over the next few months to see if it continues to get better.

Q1 - Application is fairly easy. As you have to apply directly to the scar and not rub in - it can be a bit tricky to see what you're doing if you have a flabby pouch (like me).

Q2 / Q3 - The gel is greasy but then it should be. Having said that it dries within 2 minutes and doesn't leave a sheen so it's entirely invisible with no smell.

Q4 - I've tried Bio Oil before but find it takes ages to dry and gets on your knickers / clothing. It's also very expensive as you find you have to use lots per application to get any benefit.

First impressions (at this stage) are 9/10. It's certainly improved my body confidence and there's no more uncomfortable rubbing against my knicker-line.

Q1 How easy or difficult did you find Kelo-cote to apply? Very easy - it's not too thin that it runs everywhere like a bio oil type product but its not too thick that you end up over-applying and waiting ages for it to dry without rubbing it in.

Q2. On average how long did you find it took Kelo-cote to dry? Was this a longer or shorter time than you expected? I found it did take a while at first but then tried using less and it took around 5 minutes to be completely dry

Q3. How did you find the feel of the gel? e.g. texture, stickiness etc. I really liked it, it felt a bit like thin glue product - it wasn't greasy and didn't leave me feeling hot or oilly but I could tell it was there without it being uncomfy - like an extra layer of skin.

Q4. Before taking part in this product test, had you ever tried Kelo-cote or any other scar reducing product before? If so, which one(s)? I tried applying bio oil but found it far too greasy and it made me break out in spots (which my whole body is probe to if I use the wrong product!) plus whenever I use bio oil I find I'm agitating my scar by rubbing it in for ages so it can become sore, I like this gel because you just apply, wait for it to dry and then you're done.

Just to add - I have a scar on my fore arm which I have been using it on as well and have found that has softened some of the scar tissue around it, it has also reduced the redness in it - I know that wasn't really the point of the gel but thank you! I hate this scar and the idea of it reducing is brilliant! Plus I still have loads of gel left - you really do only need the tiniest bit, even on my massive c-sec!

1 - very easy. I just paint a line a bit like nail varnish and wait for it to dry.

2 - only a minute or so; much less time than I expected.

3 - quite sticky but it applies easily and once it's dry it's unnoticeable.

4 - no, never.

Q1 Application is a bit tricky as my scar is quite long. Need a couple of fingertip blobs usually to cover the scar. I have found it best to wax/shave as the product didn't really seem to reach the scar otherwise!

Q2 Usually 3-4 mins which is fine at night but can be a rush in the morning with showers, school run and sandwiches to fit in! I expected the gel to be a bit thinner and quicker drying. However it is already improving the redness and irritation from my 2 year old scar.

Q3 The feel of the gel is quite thick and sticky, more so than I expected. Fine once dry.

Q4 Had tried Bio Oil before on chicken pox scars and stretch marks but not tried any product on my c-section scar as would have worried about fragrance and irritation.

1 - Application is easy, but took a few goes at first to get the right method

2 - a few minutes, I dont really check the clock, but it doesnt seem excessive

3 - Stickier than I expected, but fine once I was used to it. From the look of it I expected it to me more like bonjela?

4 - No nothing

Hi, I'm 10 months post-scar, which is still quite red and raised. My old scar (now almost 7yrs old - birthday on Sunday!) is also still visible above it.
Q1. It was really easy to apply, as the silicone made it glide across the skin, so it didn't pull, which wouldn't have been nice for the delicate skin.
Q2. I didn't really monitor this, as I tended to be straight off to do other things.
Q3. Feel was nice, almost too lightweight, as it was hard to be sure I had spread it well enough over all the scar lines
Q4. No, I had looked at the information on Bio-Oil, then dismissed it as hype & marketing without scientific backup, and read some scientific papers on the internet about moisturisers improving scars.

1 - very easy though I had to use more than I thought I would have to (I am not sure the tub will last!)
2 - I didn't always have time to wait for the recommended 4-5 mins but it always seemed to dry quicker than that
3 - slightly hard to control as a bit oily & sticky
4 - nothing except bio oil & Shea butter

I found it made my scar slightly tight & pulled it a bit once it had dried sometimes.

1. Gel is easy to apply, although in the early days it was a bit difficult to estimate how much was needed to cover the scar and it was easy to apply too much. You get used to that though.

1. If you apply the correct amount, about 3-4 minutes, which is manageable and in line with expectations.

1. i liked it - a bit sticky when applying but formed a nice 'seal' over the scar.

1. Nothing.

Q1. Really simple to apply but I definately use more then the 'recomended' amount although my scar is not particularly large.

Q2. I didn't wait 4 or 5 minutes because having that amount of time spare would be a luxury, I would estimate that it dried in less time then specified.

Q3. It's got quite a silky feel to it upon application and gets a little sticky whilst drying. Once dry it feels a little rubbery to touch although not in an unpleasent way.

Q4. No.

1. it's easy to apply once you get the hang of it. Needed to do it in front of a mirror though due to flabby tum obscuring my view downwards.
2. to start with it took longer than expected to dry as I was applying too much. Once I'd sussed how much to apply it just takes a few minutes.
3. quite sticky
4. used some wheatgerm oil very early on (it's 27 months since c-section)

Q1 Really easy

Q2. A few minutes - probably a bit quicker than expected

Q3. Quite sticky, but not too bad

Q4. Bio-Oil - unsure if this did any good or not.

1 Very easy

2 A couple of mins

3 Too sticky for me. I really don't like the feel of it once it has dried.

4 No

1 - very easy to apply if standing in front of the mirror, 11 weeks post section number 2 there is no way I could actually see my scar :(

2 - dried quickly if not applying too much, I'm a little heavy handed so its easy to squeeze out too much.

3 - once completely dry it felt like a very thin layer of glue, not sticky at all.

4 - none

A couple of minutes, could have done with it being quicker to be honest, I am up and out in 20 minutes in the morning.

Did not like the stickiness, it felt very much like the liquid skin spray you can get instead of using plasters.

Q4. Before taking part in this product test, had you ever tried Kelo-cote or any other scar reducing product before? If so, which one(s)?

Have used bio oil (in fact use it still but not on caesarian scar which gets very itchy.

Did find some relief from the itching once it had dried but for those two minutes had to sit on my hands to stop me from scratching.

Could have done with it drying quicker but its no worse than a normal moisturiser.

Wasn't overly keen on the thick stickiness of it to be honest. Had to have a "trim" downstairs so that I could apply it without making it uncomfortable as my scar is very very low down.

Q4. Before taking part in this product test, had you ever tried Kelo-cote or any other scar reducing product before? If so, which one(s)?

Only Bio Oil but not regularly enough for it to have made a difference.

1. Very easy once got hang of how much to use

1. About 5 minutes, bit longer than expected.

1. I've used one of the specific c section silicon sheets before, that I got from Boots. It was rubbish and wouldn't stay on so ended up taking it back. This gel is much easier!

Marking place, am waiting for infection to clear up then will start to use the gel

1 application is easy once we worked out how to get the gel out of the tube!

1. Drying time for me seems slow - at least two mins but I hot used to it .
2. Once dry it does stay as a noticeable entity on the skin - slightly sticky as others say but not unpleasant - just a reminder .
3. Used clarins and bio oil in all pregnancies and post partum .
