This thread is for the 250 Mumsnetters who are trying out the new silicone c-section gel from Kelo-cote.

Below are the first set of feedback questions, more will be added at a later date. Please answer the questions below and add any other comments you may have.

Q1 How easy or difficult did you find Kelo-cote to apply?

Q1. It was easy to apply but being so close to the pubic region it does get ahem caught up a bit

Q2. It takes about four minutes to dry which i was quite surprised at. Its not ideal when your rushing to get ready cos baby is crying to be picked up!

Q3. It does have a slighty tacky feeling almost like egg white has dried on your skin. However its not unpleasant and its reassuring as you know the product is still in place.

Q4. I used clarins oil before but it was too perfumed and agitated the area.

I should add that i had a four year old scar but dd2's was cut straight over it 11 months ago and it was really red and quite sore to touch in places. Its improving hugely far less angry looking and less uncomfortable to touch.

My scar sits under my knickers so I didn't notice to be honest, I just bunged it on and forgot about it

It is quite sticky but not problematically so.

Hi I'm not part of this trial but the gel sounds fab. I had a cs 7 weeks ago and am looking for a product to use on my scar, please can you advise where I can get this from?

Q1. I found it very easy to apply, more so than other products i have used as it is thicker so i can be more accurate.

Q2. It takes about 3 or 4 minutes. This is about as long as i expected, although when I'm rushing it can seem too long!! Its worth it though as the results are great so far.

Q3. It is thicker than i expected but i like that as it doesn't go all over the place like bio oil or other oils.

Q4. No, i have never tried anything other than bio oil or normal body moisturisers.

Hello, I had my dd 9 months ago and started the trial of Kelo-cote just before Xmas. I have religiously used it and only forgotten once or twice after too much Xmas wine

It took a bit longer than the few mins but I may have used a bit too much

Very sticky but once dry it was fine.

Q4. Before taking part in this product test, had you ever tried Kelo-cote or any other scar reducing product before? If so, which one(s)?

I has tried bio oil but not really noticed any changes. My scar has improved drastically, from feeling red, itchy and lumpy to very white soothed and smooth. Very impressed so far and so glad I was able to do this. I would never have bought something like this gel as I didn't really think it would work. Brilliant, thanks!

1. Application is easy, the gel was abit thicker than expected, but this made it easy to apply.

1. Takes about 5 minutes to completely dry.

Q1 Easy to apply but (and this is probably just me being very dippy) it took me ages to work out how to get into the tube. There are no instructions on the box/in the leaflet inside so I just ended up cutting the end off!

Q2 I don't count, I just factor it into my routine in the morning/evening. Probably about 4 mins but what I expected after reading the email.

Q3 It felt ok, as I expected. Not too sticky or greasy.

Q4 Had used Bio oil before don't feel it did anything for me.

I did think the instructions on the email and leaflet with the sample on it were good but the ones on the box/inside were rubbish. I have been impressed with the results so far - my scar does feel better.

1)I found it very easy to apply.

2)I only found it took a minute or two to dry as its a thin layer and dried almost instantly as my scar is pretty long it takes a min to apply.

3)I found it a little uncomfortable to apply at first as my scar was still very red, raised and sensitive despite being 16months. It has become easier as its feels less sensitive already.

4)I have never used anything on my scar before.

I have used the gel a few times but I think I won't be continuing with it. I'm 5 months post section and the area around the scar still has the numb feeling and I actually hate touching it, it makes me too squeamish. From the few times I did use it I can say that there needs to be instructions on how to open the tube in the packaging, as well as better instructions for application - if I hadn't read in the email that I should use a rice sized amount I wouldn't have known how much I needed and would probably have used too much. It dried quickly and didn't feel sticky.

Sorry for pulling out but the product is not for me - which is an issue with me not it

Very easy. A small squirt from the tube and just straight over the scar. It wasn't too sticky.

I didn't find it too sticky and thought it had a good texture. It had an almost immediate effect on the itchiness of my scar.

I have tried Bio-oil before but found it very greasy and it seemed to take ages to dry enough to put clothes on.

My c-section scar is 17 months old. I apply the gel religiously everyday, twice a day. My c scar is very low on my abdomen, well below my bikini line.

Q1. I found it initially a little confusing as to how little/much to apply. The description says a very thin layer. But the gel is so light in texture it can rub to almost nothing. The initial few days of application I applied way too much, but after a few days I did literally just need a rice grain size for ech of application to my c section scar.

Q2. On average.. It took a few minutes to dry. The more attention I paid to the drying time the longer it seemed to take! So I just applied it whenever (and before) i put on/took off my makeup.

Q3. I found the texture of the gel v similar to other forms of silicon (the stuff one uses for DIY/building works lol!) it rubs to a very thin smooth consistency, and ever so finely. It dries to a tight transparent band that is invisible to see.

Q4. Before taking part in this product test, I used another type of silicon product - silicon sheets. I stuck them onto my scar pretty consistently for months and months. It worked rather well for the right half of my scar but I still have a keloid for a good portion of the left side of my c scar. With the sheets I stuck them on and forgot about it for a couple of wks at a time. With the gel the application is daily, however it is more comfortable, discrete and it just looks much much better because the gel is transparent (compared with literally a plaster!). Still early days for me to tell whether there are any improvements to my scar though. So watch this space...

Q1 Fairly easy to apply, as long as you don't use too much, can be sticky if you use to much and take longer to dry.

Q2. As above, it took longer than I expected esp if you use a bit too much.

Q3. Fairly sticky to be honest but okay when dried.

Q4. I've only used things like moisturiser and bio oil prior to using the gel.

My c-section was a year ago next Thursday.

Q1 - I found it very easy to apply but had to use the mirror as have a flabby tummy.

Q2 - Doesn't take long, on occasions I had to rush after my 6 month old and couldn't wait for it to dry but checked later and it seemed to have dried ok

Q3 - It is sticky but once dry felt completely smooth. I expected it to be thick and sticky anyway.

Q4 - No

1. Easy to apply, but only a very tiny amount needed. If you have hair around the area, it is best to part this away from the scar for optimum application.

1. Took around 5 minutes to dry. As others have said, you soon factor this into your daily routine. In the mornings, I use this time to blow dry my hair!

1. Texture of the gel was smooth. If you don't use too much, it doesn't feel sticky.

From the first day of application, my scar felt less itchy (this was a 4 and a half month old scar at time of starting the trial). I now notice that the scar feels softer, and a little paler I think. Am impressed so far!

It was easy enough to apply though certainly thick. Found it slightly creepy and would have found it much worse if the scar had been more recent ( have two caesearean scars one nearly 7 other 2 years).

Takes a while to guage how much to use. Found it easy to use too much and then took ages to dry.

Thick. Rather odd sometimes throughout the day feeling aware if it but no real problems.

Q4. Before taking part in this product test, had you ever tried Kelo-cote or any other scar reducing product before? If so, which one(s)?

Tried scar reduction patches (polyurethane) on different scar and also silicone gel. Preferred the patches because they could be cut to size and weren't messy nor did they involve touching scar when prone to creepy feelings!

Am 5 months post-section.

1. Simple to apply, tend to use a bit more than advised as I felt the scar wasn't really covered otherwise

4. I've used Scar Away silicone sheets which were a bit fiddly and moved around a bit under clothes but I do think these helped my scar a little prior to starting this trial. My scar was keloid and its my second section so although most of the scar tissue was removed I've still got some keloid scarring.

Q1: I found Kelocote easy to apply - the consistency is quite thick so it doesn't run down and it glides on. It's a bit like nail varnish.

Q2: As per instructions I apply a thin coat and find it dries pretty quickly- in about 2 or 3 minutes. This is slightly quicker than expected; I was expecting 5 mins.

Q3: I find the texture very good. At first I thought it was a little thick but realised that this makes it easier to apply to the specific area so it is a coating rather than a product you need to rub in. Until dry, it is more 'tacky' than 'sticky' and when dry it is nice and smooth. It does not feel tight at all when dry.

Q4: I have used Bio oil and Palmers cocoa butter before. Neither had a discernible impact on the scar (although I think they have both been good in my stretch marks).

It takes about 3 minutes which is fine and less than the 5 mins we were advised.

The texture of the gel is lovely and silky and is just right if you get it on quick enough as it starts to go sticky quite quickly.

Not on my c-section but on a scar on my wrist. I had tried bio-oil but didn't get along with it as it is too runny

Q1- very easy - although first few days of using it iI probably put more on than recommended. my section was on 14th December with twins so scar wasn't fully healed and had to wait until it healed. then the first few applications i was a bit heavy handed

Q2- takes about 5 minutes to dry completely

Q3- very thick and sticky but not a drama

Q3- only rose oil which I used to clear up a burn scar - was very effective.
