This thread is for the 250 Mumsnetters who are trying out the new silicone c-section gel from Kelo-cote.

Below are the first set of feedback questions, more will be added at a later date. Please answer the questions below and add any other comments you may have.

Q1 How easy or difficult did you find Kelo-cote to apply?

1. I found that the gel was really easy to use, the nozzle didnt dispense too much at one time and i could use the nozzle like a pen for application to my scar.
   

1. On average i would say it took few minutes to dry but no longer than the instructions stated.
   

1. The gel was light, it felt like it melted on to the skin when it came in contact with it, it did feel a little bit tacky when first applied but within a minute or so that was gone.
   

1. I had never used Kelo-cote before and the only other skin/scar product used was by palmers for stretch marks.

Q1 - Reasonably easy although probably I tend to put it on too thick to spread it along the length of my scar.Would be nice if it came out a little thinner

Q2 - up to 5 minutes or slightly more which to be honest I don't really have to sit and watch gel dry twice daily. I'll be honest alot of the time I have to apply and go. It takes longer to dry than expected and this is the worst thing about using it for me.

Q3 - Quite like the texture find it quite pleasant to apply and although it is tacky when wet don't find that off-putting.

Q4 - No. I have tried a couple of stretch mark products (bio oil, mamma mio) and found them pointless

Q1. Very easy.

Q2. About 3 minutes. This was shorter than I'd expected because of the thickness of the gel. It didn't cause me any problems.

Q3. The gel has a smooth, thick texture but is quite sticky.

Q4. I used bio oil throughout both of my pregnancies and didn't get any stretchmarks but haven't used any other products on my scar(s).

So far, I'm pleased with the results I've seen from the gel, the redness has definitely reduced and it all seems less lumpy.

1. once I'd got into the tube (I didn't realise you had to snip the end off) it was fairly easy to apply. I know it said in the email how much to use but it didn't on the box and the first few applications I must have put too much on
   
   
2. drying time took forever. Even with the smallest amount. Even at 10 mins it still felt 'tacky'
   
   
3. it felt ok to put on. Just like a gel. When it dried it felt tacky. When it did dry it felt odd. It makes the scar feel smooth. But in a really bizzare way that I'm having difficulty describing. Almost like it had a thin layer of cling film over the top

Very, very easy. The tube squeezes smoothly and despite being in a hairy area, it stuck to the scar easily.

Seemed almost immediately. It said to wait a couple of minutes, but seemed quicker.

It forms a sort of squeeky film, is slightly sticky when applying, but not in a bad way.

No, nothing.

Q1 Its very easy to apply

Q2. I found it dried almost instantly. I'm not sure if this is because I'm not using enough product or maybe rubbing in too much though.

Q3. The texture is just right, not too runny but not too pasty either. Makes a smooth application. has a strange talcy feeling on finger after application, but thats not bad.

Q4. I'd previously used bio oil on a different surgery scar but nothing on this c section scar or other kelo cote products

Only bio oil which smells lovely but didn't seem to do much to the scar

Very easy. It is stickier than you might think and you dont need as much as you think you do

about right, it can rub off on clothes if you put them on too soon after appying

stickier than expected but got used to it and didnt affect the ease of applying

After my first c-section I used Dermatix and bio oil but ended up with a very keloid scar.

Very easy. I kept forgetting after a shower so am now in a routine where I leave it on my bedside table and apply when I get into bed.

I apply when I am in bed so timing for the gel to dry has not been a problem. I think that the drying time for me has been shorter than the time expected.

Less sticky than expected, the gel feels very much like No7 serum! Much more gel is needed than the rice grain amount recommended.

No, I was wary of trying anything other than soap/water on my scar.

Q1: I found it easy to apply to my scar, which is now 2 years old (where did that go!?), but it took a bit of practice to get the right amount.

Q2: I applied too much at the start and found it took aaaaages to dry, this is a bit of trial and error really. One I got this sorted it takes a few minutes to dry.

Q3: I found it a little sticky but not too bad.

Q4: I've never used anything before to try and sort out my scar, I didn't realise there was anything like this!

It takes about 3 - 5 mins just like many other people have noticed. I did think it would be quicker.

It's fine, a little strange at first as it seems so thick and sticky but when you get used to it, it's fine. You do need to work quite quickly as it seems to get stickier as time goes on!

Nope I haven't tried any but I am impressed by this. I have noticed much less itchiness which is great!

The drying time depends on how thick you apply it. I find a thin layer will take roughly 3 mins (maybe 4).

7 months post c-sec and I have a redish, itchy and slightly bumpy scar.

Q1 How easy or difficult did you find Kelo-cote to apply?
Very easy, it slides on well even over the bumpy bit of my scar where it was a bit infected.

Q2. On average how long did you find it took Kelo-cote to dry? Was this a longer or shorter time than you expected?
I put it on first thing and then go about brushing teeth, make-up etc and it's dry by the time I get dressed. In the evening I put it on before my bedtime routine, so drying time isn't really an issue.

Pleasant, if a bit sticky.

Haven't tried Kelo-cote before but I have been using pure coconut oil, just because it's what I use for everything (including a very cute baby bottom!)

About five minutes, which is longer than I expected.

I tried bio-oil after my first caesarean four years ago but it was very expensive and the results weren't earth shattering so I haven't used it again this time around.

Couldn't be simpler. Although I had to use a couple of rice grains-worth to get coverage on my large and bumpy scar.

A couple of minutes, although it was difficult to tell as the scar is in such an 'overhang'. It seemed to dry more rapidly than expressed in the instructions.

No problem, as I would have expected. Felt fine, not too sticky, and texture and look of it was great.

Q4. Before taking part in this product test, had you ever tried Kelo-cote or any other scar reducing product before? If so, which one(s)?

On my first keloid scar (that was cut out on second c-section) i used raw cocoa butter and bio oil plus other moisturisers over 3 years with little effect. This second scar (now 2 yrs old) is keloid, but less severe than the first, but already looks to be slightly less red and less bumpy (or this could be wishful thinking!).

Q1 Very easy and straightforward to apply.

Q2. A couple of minutes - not long at all.

Q3. I like the fact that it's a clear gel. It's a little stickier than I expected. I've tended to notice the stickiness more after my night time application.

Q4. I smothered myself in Bio Oil and vitamin E during my pregnancy to avoid stretch marks. I haven't used any other products to deal specifically with scarring.

Ok but a bit messy. It's a bit too sticky for my liking. On the positive side it's not runny like some creams/oils so no fear of it running onto clothes.

Only 3-4 mins, about what I expected.

Very sticky. I feel like I waste a lot of it as it sticks to my finger.

Only bio-oil.

No change in the appearence of my scar yet but it hasn't become red or infected again since I started using this :)

Q1 Found it easy to apply once I got the hang of how much to use!

Q2. It took longer than expected, usually use the hairdryer now!

Q3. Texture was fine, don't have an issue with it.

Q4. I've not used other scar gel before

Q1 - Application was fine, only thing I don't like is putting it on the bit of my scar which overlaps with my bikini line (poss TMI but I don't like the sensation of the kelo-cote on the hair). This can't really be avoided though!
Q2 - It dries quite quickly - I tend to use before bed and before dressing in the morning, but haven't had to particularly wait to get dressed.
Q3 - Texture is fine imo, I'm not crazy about the feel of the remaining product on my fingers before I wash the excess off, but think that's more me than the kelo-cote.
Q4 - I used some Scar-zone (a silicone-based product sold in the U.S [I used to live there]) on my CS scar, but had not seen much improvement. I used Burt's Bees Mama Bee and some American oil for stretch mark prevention - I didn't get any but don't know if that is just because I'm not prone.

1. Though it is thicker than expected, I had no problems applying it. My scar though about 1 year old was quite prominent as had to be packed up and opened again due to excessive bleeding during delivery.
   

1. It took about 3 - 5 minutes depending if I put a little extra on.
   

1. It is quite thick and sticky but not uncomfortable.
   

1. I had used the Johnson's Bio oil.
