This thread is for the 250 Mumsnetters who are trying out the new silicone c-section gel from Kelo-cote.

Below are the first set of feedback questions, more will be added at a later date. Please answer the questions below and add any other comments you may have.

Everyone who adds their feedback to this thread will be entered into a prize draw where one winner will receive a £200 John Lewis voucher.

Q1 How easy or difficult did you find Kelo-cote to apply?

Q2. On average how long did you find it took Kelo-cote to dry? Was this a longer or shorter time than you expected?

Q3. How did you find the feel of the gel? e.g. texture, stickiness etc

Q4. Before taking part in this product test, had you ever tried Kelo-cote or any other scar reducing product before? If so, which one(s)?

The next set of feedback questions will be added around the first week of February.

Thanks,
MNHQ

Final Feedback

  • Overall, how satisfied or dissatisfied were you with the results?
  • I was satisfied with this product as I didn't really expect it to make a difference based on experiences from products in the past.

  • What (if anything) was the most noticeable effect?
  • The reduced itchiness - it was driving me mad!

  • Which three words would you use to describe Kelo-cote silicone gel?
  • effective, simple, smooth

  • The recommended retail price for Kelo-cote is £29.99. Would you be prepared to pay this amount for 3 month?s supply (equivalent to less than £10 per month)?
  • If I could afford it easily I would, but currently I wouldn't be able to justify it.

  • If it were to come up in conversation, would you recommend Kelo-cote silicone gel to friends and family? If yes, why? If not, why not?
  • Yes, if someone was having similar issues to myself, I would, as it has definitely reduced my problems.

Thank you Smile

Final feedback:

  1. Very satisfied

  1. The scar faded alot, it was very dark red to start with and has now turned a pale pink and skin coloured in parts.

  1. Easy, effective and fast-acting.

  1. In retrospect yes, but if I hadn't used it and saw it in a shop I wouldn't risk buying it at that price in case it wasnt effective.

  1. Yes definitely. I think it had a really good effect for quite a minimal commitment in terms of time applying it.

Overall, how satisfied or dissatisfied were you with the results of the gel?- I was reasonably satisfied.
What (if anything) was the most noticeable result?- It iis less red and itchy
Which three words would you use to describe Kelo-cote silicone gel?- sticky clear gel
The recommended retail price for Kelo-cote is £29.99. Would you be prepared to pay this amount for 3 month?s supply (equivalent to less than £10 per month)?- I would think about it. That is a lot of money for a very small tube, I wouldn't say it was actually 3 months worth. If it was on offer for less, or came in a bigger tube I would spend 30 quid on it. I don't think I would for such a small tube though.
f it were to come up in conversation, would you recommend Kelo-cote silicone gel - yes, it did work, so if you have the money it is definitely worth a go.
Thank you.

FINAL FEEDBACK:

Overall, how satisfied or dissatisfied were you with the results of the gel?
Fairly satisfied. My scar is now barely noticeable, but it's hard to know whether that would have happened anyway.

  • What (if anything) was the most noticeable result?

My scar was originally itchy and is not itchy anymore

  • Which three words would you use to describe Kelo-cote silicone gel?

Silky, effective, simple

  • The recommended retail price for Kelo-cote is £29.99. Would you be prepared to pay this amount for 3 month?s supply (equivalent to less than £10 per month)?

If I had another C-Section I probably would want to try and minimise the scar as much as possible again, so yes, £10 a month doesn't seem to bad for this.

  • If it were to come up in conversation, would you recommend Kelo-cote silicone gel to friends and family? If yes, why? If not, why not?

Yes, I would. I have already recommended it to my mother who has a recent facial scar and given her the samples that came with my tube.

  • Overall, how satisfied or dissatisfied were you with the results of the gel? Reasonably satisfied - I wasn't expecting miracles, so I wasn't disappointed that the scar didn't disappear

  • What (if anything) was the most noticeable result? Scars are more comfortable, the itching and discomfort has definitely improved

  • Which three words would you use to describe Kelo-cote silicone gel? expensive, different, gooey

  • The recommended retail price for Kelo-cote is £29.99. Would you be prepared to pay this amount for 3 month?s supply (equivalent to less than £10 per month)? probably not for a C-section scar, but that is mostly because in my case no one else but me and DH ever sees the scar and I just ignore it. But I think it would be worth the money if I was bothered by a more visible scar

  • If it were to come up in conversation, would you recommend Kelo-cote silicone gel to friends and family? If yes, why? If not, why not? I probably would recommend it. I didn't have miraculous results myself, but some of the other testers have found it fantastic, so on that basis I would say its worth a try if the scar is really upsetting/uncomfortable. And although I said that I personally would find it a bit expensive at £29.99, it is worth noting that you only need a tiny tiny amount, so overall its quite good value

  • Overall, how satisfied or dissatisfied were you with the results of the gel?

About 5 - I think it has made a bit of a difference, but I don't know how spectacular that difference is.

  • What (if anything) was the most noticeable result?

Not so red and I think it's smoother

  • Which three words would you use to describe Kelo-cote silicone gel?

easy, smooth, expensive

  • The recommended retail price for Kelo-cote is £29.99. Would you be prepared to pay this amount for 3 month?s supply (equivalent to less than £10 per month)?

I think it's very expensive for a c-section scar. If it was a more visible scar then it would be different.

  • If it were to come up in conversation, would you recommend Kelo-cote silicone gel to friends and family? If yes, why? If not, why not?

Maybe. If they had a scar that was really bothering them, then perhaps.

  • What (if anything) was the most noticeable result?

The scar is less red.

  • Which three words would you use to describe Kelo-cote silicone gel?

Scar improving gel

  • The recommended retail price for Kelo-cote is £29.99. Would you be prepared to pay this amount for 3 month?s supply (equivalent to less than £10 per month)?

No, maybe if the scar was somewhere noticeable I would.

  • If it were to come up in conversation, would you recommend Kelo-cote silicone gel to friends and family? If yes, why? If not, why not?

Yes, as it does quite a good job, but personally I wouldn't pay for it.

Overall, how satisfied or dissatisfied were you with the results of the gel? Reasonably satisfied

  • What (if anything) was the most noticeable result?

My scar appears flatter (if I had started using the gel a few months prior to when I did,I would have been more impressed but I noticed my scar improved dramatically by itself in the couple of months prior to starting the trial)

  • Which three words would you use to describe Kelo-cote silicone gel?

Clear scar reducing

  • The recommended retail price for Kelo-cote is £29.99. Would you be prepared to pay this amount for 3 month?s supply (equivalent to less than £10 per month)?

If I felt I was going to scar badly or in a more visible spot than section scar, yes but for another section maybe

  • If it were to come up in conversation, would you recommend Kelo-cote silicone gel to friends and family? If yes, why? If not, why not?

Yes,I think it helped and it did more than bio oil.

  • Overall, how satisfied or dissatisfied were you with the results of the gel?

I expected more of a noticeable improvement, and found having to wait for it to dry awkward. So overall not very satisfied.

  • What (if anything) was the most noticeable result?

No noticeable difference. I had a better result previously from using bio oil on a different scar. I did however use the bio oil sooner after the operation and more consistently (because of its ease of application)

  • Which three words would you use to describe Kelo-cote silicone gel?

Sticky, clear, odourless.

  • The recommended retail price for Kelo-cote is £29.99. Would you be prepared to pay this amount for 3 month?s supply (equivalent to less than £10 per month)?

Probably not, if I was a first time buyer a trial would be essential - I knew fairly early on the drying time would not fit my schedule. 3 months up front is quite an investment.

  • If it were to come up in conversation, would you recommend Kelo-cote silicone gel to friends and family? If yes, why? If not, why not?

I would mention it, but also both it's pros and cons. Drying time would be my biggest warning, but it doesn't have a strong smell and feels quite nice to apply (bio oil smells strong and is oily in comparison).

Apologies for the very late second and third feedback - I've been restricted to my phone while we moved house and waited FOREVER for wifi hookup...

Second feedback:

  1. Have you noticed any improvement in your scar since using Kelo-cote at all, if so in what way?

  • Yes, now at four months post-section and my scar has faded in colour and feels pretty flat and smooth. However - I'm not sure that this is much different to the progress of my first section scar, for which I used Bio-Oil.

  1. Have you found using Kelo-cote easy or difficult to incorporate into your daily routine?

  • Quite easy, though the drying time does make this something to think about. I started off doing it after the shower in the morning, but moved to last thing at night - clean area, apply gel, wait for it to dry while doing teeth etc. That worked fine.

  1. Approximately how much product do you have left (1/3rd tube / 1/2 tube etc)?

  • Hard to really tell but I'd say almost all tube now gone. I've applied it pretty sparingly I think.

Third feedback:

  • Overall, how satisfied or dissatisfied were you with the results of the gel?

-Pretty satisfied I think. It has definitely helped, but sorry -no miracle rave review from here! - I'd give it a 7/10 maybe?

  • What (if anything) was the most noticeable result?
  • I think the scar is more faded in colour than with the Bio-Oil I used first time around.

  • Which three words would you use to describe Kelo-cote silicone gel?

-Sticky, plasticky, effective.

  • The recommended retail price for Kelo-cote is £29.99. Would you be prepared to pay this amount for 3 month?s supply (equivalent to less than £10 per month)?
  • Probably, yes.

  • If it were to come up in conversation, would you recommend Kelo-cote silicone gel to friends and family? If yes, why? If not, why not?
  • Yes I would. I would say that I definitely found the gel to help with flattening and improving the scar.

Thanks!! I'm now off to check my gmail after what feels like an age and to post my feedback data there too hopefully!
