STOP PRESS! Live pre-wedding webchat with our very own Kate Middleton, TODAY at 1pm

Hello. We're extremely honoured (and just a little bit over-excited) to announce that royal bride-to-be Kate Middleton is coming to MNHQ for a webchat today at 1pm.

A while back, we put in a formal request for Kate to take part in a Mumsnet webchat (nothing ventured, nothing gained and all that) but, truth be told, we weren't that hopeful, given her other pressing engagements this week.

But then, this morning, the Buckingham Palace Press Office rang to say Miss Middleton had some time this lunchtime between her last dress fitting and her first palace-balcony-etiquette briefing - and would be delighted to drop in and chat to Mumsnetters. Apparently, she's been lurking on Mumsnet quite a lot recently and has been finding the Bridezilla discussions a real eye opener. Shock

So, quick, please post your (suitably deferential) questions for Miss Middleton here - and join us for our very first royal webchat at 1pm.

Who is Sheherererererezade Goldsmith???????

AccioPinotGrigio · 26/04/2011 18:39

moldiegate - don't lets go down that boring old road again or at least until somebody has answered my question about this S. Goldsmith.

MardyBra · 26/04/2011 18:40

I wondered who would be first Jenai Grin

Georgimama · 26/04/2011 18:41

She's Zach Goldsmith's (ex?) wife.

AccioPinotGrigio · 26/04/2011 18:42

Thank you.

Now, who is Justine's husband.

I know nowt me.

Northernlurker · 26/04/2011 18:47

I think the only funny thing about this thread is the number of deeply serious posters who were obviously so annoyed at falling for this that they have had their posts removed.
Other than that it's really very poor on the part of HQ. I'm sure it's jolly boring being the 'parents' all the time but that's what goes with all the nice fluffy bits as well.

PuzzleRocks · 26/04/2011 18:52

[links arms with Jenai]

Just need to face DH now. He'll get as much mileage out of this as I have from discovering he once took a girl to see Mamma Mia. Shit.

southeastastra · 26/04/2011 19:03

well people are already taking the piss that they fell for it so why should their posts remain if they don't want them to?

Rohanda · 26/04/2011 19:08

Yes Aitch, the "finished with dress off to Kentish Town" was more than a gentle clue that this was a spoof. And shorely no-one thinks KM would be popping in to see Justy and the crew 3 days before the event??

Foofffyy - shitly is an excellent adverb, isn't it!! Versatile, immediately understood and makes me proud.

Northernlurker · 26/04/2011 19:08

Because sometimes we all fall on our faces SEA. Goodness knows I do. Maybe the thing to do is just ignore and move on rather than take your bat and ball away. Itactually draws more attention to you - I would never have posted on this thread if people hadn't removed their posts.

Btw did 'palace-balcony-etiquette briefing'? Hmm not give anyone a clue at all?

southeastastra · 26/04/2011 19:14

i do actually think it's quite amusing but some viscious posts have made me effing mad about the whole thing. people don't have to be such arses just cause they guessed it was a hoax yet chose not to post.

and there is always the fact that some posters could be used on the daily mail site so they could be ridiculed even more. we all know some posters are journalists there - would make a great dm article wouldn't it

Ohforfoxsake · 26/04/2011 19:14

I'm not sure who you're taking the piss out of? Us or Kate M?

Anyway, it was a bit shit. Not impressed MN, but these days I rarely am.

MardyBra · 26/04/2011 19:15

TBH it's quite understandable that a lot of people were thinking it was true and are upset. This is exacerbated by:

a) the opening post from MN was so totally not tongue-in-cheek (before the insertion of "our very own")

b) MN has form of getting high profile webchats, including the Prime Minister ffs.

c) MNHQ let the thread run on for so long. If you look at the early posts most of them are Hmm but the longer it went on without MNHQ coming on and owning up that it was a spoof, the more lots of people were convinced that it could well be genuine.

But Justine has apologised and I guess it's time to move on...

Rohanda · 26/04/2011 19:21

fox - I don't think anyone was a target for having the piss being taken, least of all MNers. It just looks like a VERY light-hearted pretend webchat that had lots of clues to indicate it was a spoof. Bit like April Fools tricks where you can't blow the game totally otherwise there would be no point?

It backfired because some posters didn't register the spoof and genuinely got into the spirit of a webchat.

Bit like bad sex? You get all excited and then get left high and dry.....Grin

Ohforfoxsake · 26/04/2011 19:21

Gives the press an opportunity to point and laugh. Which isn't nice.

Ohforfoxsake · 26/04/2011 19:23

Rohanda - did they change the thread title after it started though?

Fuck it, we've still got our day off.

Ohforfoxsake · 26/04/2011 19:23

LOL at bad sex. Have forgotten what that's like. Sex that is. Bad or otherwise. Grin

Rohanda · 26/04/2011 19:26

fox - don't know about the title change - but as Aitch indicated, is KM really going to use her smart phone to text a post from the royal carriage twix palace and dress people, and say 'my good man?'......

but yes, fuck it indeed. Day off to go for a nice long walk.

southeastastra · 26/04/2011 19:28

oh come on that post was about an hour in!

Rohanda · 26/04/2011 19:31

52 mins in! take your point sea.

But still not a case for Justy off to the Tower........

Ohforfoxsake · 26/04/2011 19:34

It was just a crap joke. MNHQ - you aren't very funny. Don't give up the day job.

Northernlurker · 26/04/2011 19:36

The balcony etiquette was in the first post though! There are lots of troll threads on here - they don't make the national news. What will though is mumsnetters getting all uppity with HQ a la moldies. I think this thread was a bad idea, badly executed and badly followed through - but the thread isn't the story. The fall out (in every sense) will be.

Ohforfoxsake · 26/04/2011 19:39

could just delete it. no great loss.

Merrylegs · 26/04/2011 19:40

Yes. But.

The thing about the 'balcony palace etiquette' line is that it is the kind of thing one might say if one were trying to introduce a perfectly serious subject in a pithy way.

You know, sometimes it is just EXHAUSTING being witty and hilariously punchy and wise-crackingly snippy. I mean, right?

Sometimes it is just refreshing to be PLONKY.

A lot of posters were just being cheery and straightforward. And then got SNORTED at by the SNEERY crew.

StealthyKissBeartrayal · 26/04/2011 19:52

Thank you Merrylegs
If you look back at MNHQ's posts, they are quite tongue in cheek. If you take their every word literally you will find they 'lie' a lot I bet.
