DH says cat needs to show more gratitude

I’ve been away for a few days and DH managed the kids and the dog just fine.

He’s upset with our cat though and says he made a real effort to bond with him by giving him treats, protecting him when our dog had the zoomies and making sure his bedding was fluffed.

DH said the cat gave nothing back, blanked him and even swatted at DH when he tried to pet him.

DH wants to know why the cat doesn’t show any gratitude. I explained to DH very carefully that the reason the cat doesn’t show any gratitude is because it is a cat.

DH says that is illogical and there must be a real reason and “it’s a cat” doesn’t cut the mustard.

YABU- Deeper reason why cat won’t show gratitude
YANBU- it’s a cat.

Love the challenging expression on cat in photo 2. "I am looking interested in what you are doing what do you want me to do - give you a Blue Peter badge??

That's Ambrose. I have zero expectations, and he deliversGrin

As the cat has shat on the carpet, DS's shoes, the doormat and the new couch in the last week - not to mention racking up £15000 of vet fees so far - I have decided to take the OP's DH's approach and insist on some proper goddamned gratitude from the ghastly shit-fest currently destroying my house.

He isn't even the nice one. The nice one only ever poos in the litter tray and doesn't eat dodgy stuff he finds outside and do himself injuries.

@UngratefulFeline, could you check with your bloke for the going rate of gratitude for all this stuff?

ClaredeBear · 11/07/2025 16:27

It’s because a cat isn’t a dog.

Well, this one is currently on house arrest from late morning onwards because she cannot be trusted not to give herself heatstroke. She's hyperactive and loves chasing insects. She is also allergic to grass pollen. Many nanobugs and much catnip have been purchased. Her booster is Thursday, by which time temperatures should be moderate, but she's overheated in a car before and I'm so determined to keep her safe that I've booked an air conditioned pet taxi, bought her a personal fan and painstakingly acclimatized her to it, and added a cooling gel pad and muslin drap to her new ventilated plastic carrier.

To show her gratitude for me spending half my paycheque and annual leave keeping her safe, she has yelled at me several times and attacked my bare leg.
