DH says cat needs to show more gratitude

I’ve been away for a few days and DH managed the kids and the dog just fine.

He’s upset with our cat though and says he made a real effort to bond with him by giving him treats, protecting him when our dog had the zoomies and making sure his bedding was fluffed.

DH said the cat gave nothing back, blanked him and even swatted at DH when he tried to pet him.

DH wants to know why the cat doesn’t show any gratitude. I explained to DH very carefully that the reason the cat doesn’t show any gratitude is because it is a cat.

DH says that is illogical and there must be a real reason and “it’s a cat” doesn’t cut the mustard.

YABU- Deeper reason why cat won’t show gratitude
YANBU- it’s a cat.

This joke may help your DH to understand his place in the hierarchy ...

A cat and a dog both die and having made it through the Pearly Gates, have to present themselves to God to be vetted. When they do, God asks the dog, 'So, tell me, have you been able good dog?'

'Oh yes!' answers the dog, eagerly. 'I fetched, sat and rolled over whenever commanded. I was a good companion and loyal servant to my owners.'

'Very good,' booms God, approvingly. 'You're in. Now, what about you, cat? Have you been a good cat?'

The cat looks at him and says, 'You're in my seat.'

Your husband sounds like a right idiot.

To be fair to the small Velociraptors, they have to make those fluffy, clucky noises and pay protection eggs to the human because they know the threat of a packet of Paxo and half an onion shoved up the jacksie.

Absolutely need the laughing emoji back...

Witknit · 07/06/2025 14:15

Its your cat here.

DH who?

The fact that your DH is still alive means that the cat loves him. It is your DH who is being ungrateful.

Indeed. The cat could have eaten him whilst DH was asleep.

A colleague once told me she heard her DH saying to their cat "You're all take and no give."

SinnerBoy · 07/06/2025 16:41

I have another 16 pages to read, so sorry if it's already been said:

Does DH stand for Dozy Husband? Defective Husband?

fetchacloth · 07/06/2025 18:08

This made me laugh out loud 🤣 😂
This is totally normal cat behaviour and no amount of treats and fuss will change it.

Bunny65 · 07/06/2025 18:10

He needs to understand that he should show gratitude to the cat for being allowed to serve them and live in their house rent free.

No3392 · 06/06/2025 08:55

I'm sorry, what!? 😂

I know right ! 😂 😂

TiredAH · 07/06/2025 18:15

Maybe DH needs to sit down with your cat and have a chat heart to heart.
I might have to have a chat with the fat pigeon that keeps coming to my garden and makes a mess on the bird feeder, so inconsiderate towards the other birds… I didn’t raise him to be like that!

Wtaf…?

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 07/06/2025 18:15

Is this a joke lol. I have two cats and they act like I’m privileged that they let me live with them 🤣

MiloMinderbinder · 07/06/2025 18:16

I read your post to my cat. He just laughed. Arrogant little so-and-so

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 07/06/2025 18:17

StasisMom · 07/06/2025 18:28

I’ve tried so often to befriend cats and they won’t have it. I’m too needy for cats, so dogs it is.

Lizziespring · 07/06/2025 18:31

My cat was ungrateful; plus she used to sit on the corner of the bath and glower, clearly willing whoever was bathing to drown. Then a fox ate her. Don't tell your husband or the backdoor will mysteriously get left open at night...

loppity · 07/06/2025 18:31

I am an accidental cat aunt (providing foster care for my niece) who has previously only been around dogs and had to learn the blinks, etc. To be fair she will (usually) appear when I shake a tub of Dreamies at the door..

She was an indoor only cat who had a strong desire to escape;
when she inevitably did one of the people in my road found her under a container in their back garden. I can't describe the sight it must have been of me crawling down the path on my hands and knees treats in one hand and wet food pouch in the other because she had retreated under the container...Neighbours had a dog and stayed inside until I got her.

I had one of those 'play this sound for your cat' videos come up on FB and she did actually come to see what it was😂

What a beautiful mog!

(TBF - the ones on the thread are all bonny)

wellington77 · 07/06/2025 18:45

I hoping this is a joke thread! 😂, has he never met a cat before? Dogs have owners, cats have staff

MyLilacBeaker · 07/06/2025 18:47

Hahaha tell him to be a man and stop taking this so personally haha. Looking at my cat now who is staring at me as if to say 'if you touch me, your getting it' I said to her she needs to be more grateful. She didn't even bother with an answer just still sat there. Haha 😄 I might need to go and cry I think now 😅 it's a cat! 😂😂

nwh · 07/06/2025 18:49

I’m with your husband, I water our plants, give them food, move the potted ones around when the sunshine is too bright for them, never once have the said thank you, or expressed any sort of gratefulness.

they need to try harder

GoogolB · 07/06/2025 18:58

Which is exactly why dogs are better than cats. What is the point of them?

PersephoneSmith · 07/06/2025 19:04

Do chickens show gratitude?
really need to know!
