Here’s a spoon for scale. It’s a big teaspoon, but I’ve made a few different sizes now. This ones been back on the wheel and had its bottom trimmed now.
It’s difficult to judge shrinkage when you make something different! Anyway, I can glaze them in different colours and you can choose which you prefer. It’s been nice having something small to work out, it’s good to try something new!

Has the OP scarpered?!? If so, I will have to up my hot drinks game to find a use for a teaspoon rest!
Anyway, on the off chance it’s of interest, I’ve now made four of slightly different sizes and turned the base, so once dry the can go in kiln. The top one in photo is upside down, and the bottom one has lost its moisture and turned a paler colour because it’s been drying longer.

They are so lovely! If the OP has run away I would love to buy one, never knew I needed one but they're so cute, and I do leave my spoons laying on the counter, I think they would be much comfier in a rest Smile

2021ComeAtMe · 19/01/2021 12:19

They're lovely! Great job Smile

@PeaceLoveAndCandy are you still there? Will be handbags at dawn over these teaspoon rests if you don't return... Grin

Frownette · 19/01/2021 12:23

I'm looking forward to seeing the coloured glazes :)

I actually feel emotional right now. That is amazing @Sevensilverrings. An object of true beauty and so meaningful the way it's come to life. I am so grateful.

Awwww.....!

DPotter · 19/01/2021 13:53

Whittards

or ask a local potter!

Barmbraic · 19/01/2021 13:54

Fantastic thread and trinket and a lovely story when OP is asked where she got her beautiful spoon holder.

Time40 · 19/01/2021 13:56

Why does a teaspoon need a rest?

Because you can use them more than once. Put it on the rest, it dries out, and then you can use it again. Why make more washing-up?

TopBants · 19/01/2021 14:04

@Sevensilverrings Are you set up on Etsy? If so, I'd love to buy one of these because DH keeps leaving bloody tea stains all over the counter with the freaking spoon

It could be a proper Mumsnet thing. The Mumsnet teaspoon rest. Grin

ImAncient · 19/01/2021 14:04

@Sevensilverrings that’s so lovely of you. Do you sell any of your pottery? Would it be ok to put a link on here if you do?

Chambored · 19/01/2021 14:38

Not just teaspoon rest - tablespoon rest, for cooking etc...
I’d buy one!

Sevensilverrings · 19/01/2021 14:58

I didn’t in any way come on to sell stuff, honest!
I’m not selling just now....and when I do it’s through local craft fairs and exhibitions, so I tend not to post stuff. Kids still quite little, but plan is to do this properly one day. I can dream.
More than happy to post to you OP, I will post the finished things here (it will take a while because they need about two weeks to make it through my kiln twice. You can choose what you want, and how many as I have no use for them...(we are not so kind to our spoons in this house, they go straight in the sink). Just do some of the crochet for the hospital you were talking about, that’s be more than enough, just nice to pass on some cheer in these tricky times!

Barmbraic · 19/01/2021 15:06

A little nest of 3 or 4 different sizes. I'd love that.

I love this! Panic response that her tea spoon rests were going to be distributed to the vipers Grin
Housing101 · 19/01/2021 16:16

This is brilliant. I am so looking forward to seeing the final piece!
And the moment the teaspoon gets the hug it's been waiting for

RosyPrimroseDoll · 19/01/2021 16:24

I came in here genuinely wondering how a request to spice a tea spoon rest could generate nearly 100 replies- and I'm so glad I did! What a heart warming, simple friendly thread!

PeaceLoveAndCandy · 19/01/2021 16:29

@onyourway
I was properly panicked!!Grin

Lovely thread.

Barmbraic · 19/01/2021 18:06

@Sevensilverrings, so I know you say you aren't really selling at the moment, but would you consider commissions? Pretty please?
