Oh I LOVE this thread. Flowers

Saisong · 01/01/2021 11:10

If this thread is indicative of the spirit with which we all approach 2021, then I think we're going to be OK ♥️

Bezzi · 01/01/2021 11:19

I'm not crying, you are

BuggerOffAndGoodDayToYou · 01/01/2021 11:34

What a heartwarming thread!

GenderApostate19 · 01/01/2021 12:26

I bought my DD a beautiful Owl themed one from a department store in Venice, I’ve kicked myself ever since for not getting one for me 🙄
I use an oblong back dish that had pate in it, from Aldi. It’s big enough for used teabags as I don’t like putting hot ones in my food caddy.

Impatientwino · 01/01/2021 13:24

I bloody LOVE Mumsnet

What a kind person you are @Sevensilverrings

I'm always amazed how quickly Mumsnet can solve things. I'm reminded of when someone asked what the pen marks on the bottom of her husbands crumpets were and within about an hour someone piped up with the answer!

HNY you lovely vipers Daffodil

AlCalavicci · 01/01/2021 22:29

@Impatientwino
I remeber that thread , he was a lorry driver wasnt he ? and the crumpets were batch test ones that should not of got in to the food chain ( I think )

I am also don't understand the teaspoon rest thing. As soon as I use one it goes straight in the dishwasher. But my mum has a maddening habit of putting teabags onto a tiny plate until later in the day. I still don't know why she does that. Everything else she deals with straight away. I think teabags must be special!

grapewine · 01/01/2021 22:59

@Soutiner

“Why does a teaspoon need a rest?”

..........

Well if you spent your life getting into hot water and stirring things up you’d need a rest occasionally!

I love this answer 😀
grapewine · 01/01/2021 23:05

@Sevensilverrings - such a kind offer. I already feel a little better about 2021.

CatVsChristmasTree · 01/01/2021 23:05

@SWnewstart

Sorry, but I'm another one wondering exactly why such a thing is needed! Use the spoon for whatever then throw it in the sink, dishwasher or leave it on the worktop for next time? Same with tea-bags - why does it have to live somewhere special?
Because with 5 people in the house having hot drinks, yogurts etc and a not unlimited supply of teaspoons, I frequently find them all languishing in the sink by mid afternoon where I have to fish them out and rinse one (now I need a special rest for it!). We usually only wash up once a day, probably not alone in that.

DH gets frustrated with me doing this, I maintain that they need a little rest before being taken to the bin. They need to cool off and dry out so they don't melt the bin bag (i know they won't) or drip all over the floor when I move them. Neither of those things matter to him as he drinks his tea with the (Earl Grey) teabag in.

@PeaceLoveAndCandy

Thank you to everyone's who's made suggestions, I do appreciate it, but you're all missing the point. The teaspoon in my OP is not just resting, is also getting a hug. A hug! And that's what I want for my hardworking teaspoons. Happy New Year everyone!!
Oh that is lovely! I know a Potter in our village, I may have to commission one...
Crankley · 02/01/2021 00:51

Hello Twilight Zone. Never heard of a rest for a spoon, poor thing, is the spoon tired? Seriously, chuck it in the sink!

Twobrews · 02/01/2021 12:28

Ours get a rest in the dishwasher, if there's none left in the drawer then we just wash one. If anyone leaves one in the sink then I hunt the culprit down. No dishes get left in or near the sink, dishwasher or wash it and put it away.

Teabags rest in the teapot until cold.

nothingcanhurtmewithmyeyesshut · 02/01/2021 13:04

You mean some people don't just stir the drink and fling the spoon in the general direction of the sink? Blush

Sevensilverrings · 16/01/2021 19:52

Hi! Quick update...my kids finally let me do something on my own for an afternoon, so fitted your spoon rest onto the end. It’s not even dry yet, but when it is I’ll put it back on wheel to trim it, then first fire, then glaze fire.
Sorry it’s taken a while, but you’ll get it eventually!

Anyone know where in the UK I can get a teaspoon rest?
Someaddedsugar · 16/01/2021 19:57

That looks beautiful already @Sevensilverrings - what a generous and kind thing to do.

As a PP said, what a fab talent to have to just be able to make things yourself. Very jealous right now Smile

funnyoldonion · 16/01/2021 20:10

This whole thread is so cute. I now need a teaspoon rest Grin

peridito · 17/01/2021 10:19

sevensilver looking great .But...could you repost with something to give scale ? So I can crave it even more !

Sevensilverrings · 17/01/2021 13:46

Peridito, it’s about 8 cm right now, but will shrink down before firing, and then again in kiln when all the moisture leaves. Hopefully spoon size!
I might make some different sizes, just to hedge my bets....it’s a fun little scrap clay project, (but I have a feeling it’s a rather limited market)!

YippeeKayakOtherBuckets · 17/01/2021 13:49

I don’t know why this thread has made me well up, but I needed this today.

🥰

Fancycrackers · 17/01/2021 13:51

Use a saucer or little bowl??

Chambored · 17/01/2021 13:53

Love this thread. Can’t wait to see the finished tea spoon rest - it looks great already.

TheRealMrsJamieFraser · 17/01/2021 13:55

@Sevensilverrings that is beautiful already.
OP you are so lucky!

I'm dead jealous of people who are creative - but especially those who can create things that are actually gorgeous and that people actually covet instead of just being polite Grin

If you decide to make any more I'd definitely buy one!
