To realise I like old lady things

AiryFairyMum · 20/06/2020 15:13

I bought some Yardley perfume for my grandmother and haven't been able to give it to her due to lockdown. I really like it and am going to buy some for me.
Also, I've started looking at those pointy cross-your hearty bras and thinking they look comfy and I quite like the shape, without having to cope with underwires (which I hate).
I'm 37, not 73. Are there any other old lady things I might like please?

Just came on to say what a lovely thread!

VictoriaBun · 29/06/2020 09:28

What brand t-towels do people recommend ?

torquewench · 29/06/2020 09:57

Reading this thread and wondering if now's a good time to ebay the Royal Albert collection that I inherited from MIL 🤔😁

HebeMumsnet · 29/06/2020 10:03

This is a lovely thread, which has made us feel most cosy. We're going to waft it over to Classics now, in a cloud of Yardley.

Canklesforankles · 29/06/2020 10:08

Ooh we made classics Grin

Very exciting

alwaysreadyforablether · 29/06/2020 10:45

Has anyone tried Cyberjammies? I know pyjamas are maybe a modern abomination compared to Victorian ghost nighties but I like traditional style, button front pyjamas. They are quite expensive though so would love to hear any reviews.

BabCNesbitt · 29/06/2020 11:28

I’ve been a fan of traditional pyjamas for years, and I’ve just bought a pair of Cyberjammies from eBay. (I have no ick about used nightwear!) I’m pretty impressed with them - soft thick cotton and sturdy fabric-covered buttons.

Lottieskeeper · 29/06/2020 11:52

Oooh classics!
Let's celebrate with a cup of tea, made in a pot of course and a biscuit.

PeskyRooks · 29/06/2020 11:53

So happy that we've made classics! Going to have a cup of tea and a scone to celebrate!
Flowers for us all.

Lupellegrino · 29/06/2020 11:59

I think they are called 'Cyber jammies ' as they initially started selling only on line in early days.

ppeatfruit · 29/06/2020 13:08

Thank you Eve Grin I was imagining them with pictures of robots or whatever on them Grin

NannyOgg66 · 29/06/2020 13:50

@Lupellegrino I do cross stitch as well, I find it very mindful. Also, knitting which I have only just got into over the last few years, so easy to learn new techniques now with the internet.
@wildthingsinthenight if you like Audrey's cardigans in To the manor born, try The Crown series 2 has lots of cardis and twinsets and sensible shoes :)

SirVixofVixHall · 29/06/2020 13:54

I am laughing at robot pyjamas.
I am awaiting my beautiful new pale green nightie from Powellcraft, powellcraftboutique.com/products/ladies-green-nightdress

Scruffyoak · 29/06/2020 13:55

Some of my teatowels arrived. I was genuinely excited as I cleared a drawer for my teatowels. I dont iron my clothes but my teatowels look great!

NannyOgg66 · 29/06/2020 14:06

Does anyone remember Lux soap? Can you still get it? My grandmother used to keep it in her linen drawer to make things smell nice. Another old lady soap(IMO) is Pears transparent stuff, I love the smell of this. I bought some after not using it for many years and it did not smell quite the same. I suspect they had changed it slightly. I am not sure who it was that posted up the link to the beautiful french soaps but thank you! They look eco friendly as well.

Bioprepper · 29/06/2020 14:13

whooo i was going to recommend moving to classics. This is a lovely thread i dont want it to end! MY RINGTONS ORDER ARRIVED TODAY Grin

@NannyOgg66 you can still buy Lux soap but i havent seen the original in a while

SirVixofVixHall · 29/06/2020 14:23

They have changed Pears. The smell is not the same, and the soap is no longer aged, so falls into sludge v quickly.

SirVixofVixHall · 29/06/2020 14:24

I miss the big green bars of Fairy soap that my Grannie used on shirt collars.

wildthingsinthenight · 29/06/2020 14:26

Ooh Classics!! Amazing. I am celebrating with a cup of tea and a few violet creams
FlowersFlowersFlowers
