To realise I like old lady things

I bought some Yardley perfume for my grandmother and haven't been able to give it to her due to lockdown. I really like it and am going to buy some for me.
Also, I've started looking at those pointy cross-your hearty bras and thinking they look comfy and I quite like the shape, without having to cope with underwires (which I hate).
I'm 37, not 73. Are there any other old lady things I might like please?

Charity shops not open in Scotland yet. I wouldn't be surprised if some of our local ones struggle to keep the same long opening hours because many of their staff are older and may be shielding or living with someone who is.

wildthings sorry I couldn't remember the name of the account! On Twitter it's @LBFlyawayhome

I love everything she posts, basically, but my favourites are the Tunnicliffe scenes from nature/the seasons. Just lovely.

Sloth that bedding is beaut!! Duck egg is such a nice restful colour.

frugalkitty · 27/06/2020 22:18

Thanks for that Spidey I still have my childhood ladybird books and they're so well read they are beginning to fall to pieces. I read them with DD when she was little. You can order some of the illustrations as prints....I always intended to get some for DDs room but never actually got around to it Blush The modern versions are no where near as good.

SirVixofVixHall · 27/06/2020 22:22

PrivateSpidey I had an extra deep drawer built in my kitchen for tea towels and aprons, and an even deeper one for tablecloths.

SpeedofaSloth · 27/06/2020 22:23

Those Powell Craft nighties are beautiful. They look really comfy too.

SpeedofaSloth · 27/06/2020 22:24

I follow the Ladybirds illustrations account too, she's ace.

wildthingsinthenight · 27/06/2020 22:38

Found it! Thank you PrivateSpidey

I’ve thought of more...

Hornsea pottery. I have a little condiment set and I love it.

Toile du Juoy.

Deadheading my garden tubs so they look all fresh and lovely.

Homemade jam. A friend gave me a pot of homemade gooseberry jam yesterday and it is heaven.

Destroyedpeople · 27/06/2020 23:00

Ooh Hornsea pottery...my top charity shop find was three lovely terracotta hornsea storage jars. And one eggcup...

LunaNorth · 27/06/2020 23:02

Also Flower Fairy books. I still have my Autumn and Spring ones from childhood.

LunaNorth · 27/06/2020 23:03

@Destroyedpeople I recently walked into a charity shop and there was a full set - tea service, dinner service, storage jars, casserole dishes...must have been a house clearance.

I walked away, but it was so hard to resist.

Destroyedpeople · 27/06/2020 23:07

You walked away!! Mind you, we have to in charity shops sometimes or would end up with cupboards full of duplicate stuff....waiting to go the charity shop when we move....

Santasballsack · 27/06/2020 23:17

@1forAll74

Well yes, good for you. I am an oldie, (78). I don't say I am buying old lady stuff though, just good quality stuff, that has been around for many years. I buy quite a lot of Yardley stuff. and Taylor of London talcs etc. I still use Vosene shampoo, which I used when I was about 16.

I am just miffed now, as you can't get the little tins of proper germolene ointment, just the cream stuff now which is no good,
Proper Germolene ointment was fantastic, and would heal things very quickly. I believe that there was some ingredient in it, that failed modern standards these days.

I saw a few small tins on ebay once, and the asking price was £40 for one tin. !

Apparently one of the ingredients in the ointment became impossible to source.
wildthingsinthenight · 27/06/2020 23:43

I love Hornsea!!

TheRealMummyPig · 27/06/2020 23:46

I'm also a fan of big knickers, murder mysteries, anything rose scented, growing roses, tea rooms, garden centres, afternoon tea, comfortable shoes, cardigans, baths and early nights!
My 20 year old self would be in disbelief of my 38 year old self!

wildthingsinthenight · 27/06/2020 23:49

Flower Fairy books are lovely.
I love Brambly Hedge. I have them all and sometimes read one when I'm fed up

I am 39 but may as well be 79. I love a mooch around charity shops, I love garden centres and would rather a tea room to a pub. I already have sketchers go walk because of my arthritis.

I loved flower fairies too, I had the dolls as well.

It is my birthday soon and am seriously considering asking for a tea set.

Can't quite do big pants yet though Grin

Lupellegrino · 28/06/2020 07:34

I love the flower fairies too. I draw and paint botanicals and like to do my own version of the fairies with them Smile

Afishcallledbob · 28/06/2020 07:48

Nothing wrong with embracing your inner old lady. My 15 yr old told me this the other day. She loves puzzles, gardening, old tv shows, listening to 50s and 60s music on her record player and knitting. She also hates social media so old before her time.
