To realise I like old lady things

I bought some Yardley perfume for my grandmother and haven't been able to give it to her due to lockdown. I really like it and am going to buy some for me.
Also, I've started looking at those pointy cross-your hearty bras and thinking they look comfy and I quite like the shape, without having to cope with underwires (which I hate).
I'm 37, not 73. Are there any other old lady things I might like please?

I should have added I like vintage tea sets, proper leaf tea and going for afternoon tea, I always have even when in my 20s. I also like a nice twin set! They had a bit of a revival in the 90s when I was a lot younger and I used to wear them to work. I just got a strappy camisole version from ebay I think it was Damart make. As someone else said men wear comfy pants all the time and they aren't called "old man pants"!

Wildthings, those are lovely.

My great aunt bought me a teaset when I was a baby and packed it away in assorted textiles in her attic to ensure I would have a legacy from her should she perish.
She lived about 30 years after that.
But when I did get it, I did treasure the fifties apron that it was wrapped in.

My favourite teapot.

With the teaset from my great aunt in the background.

Lovely story about the tea set and that's a gorgeous teapot

wildthingsinthenight · 27/06/2020 18:17

Beautiful set Imissmoominmama
I'm looking forward to getting back to charity shops

Patterned china is the best.

I've lately been getting quite excited about repurposing things to avoid waste. Like making plastic bag dispenser out of a shirt dress sleeve and some elastic.
Or I've cut up an old dressing gown ds2 grew out of and I'm sewing along the pieces with blanket stitch to make flannels and make up remover pads for dd.

I think that is partly a lockdown thing and partly I love getting my sewing basket out.

I love the tea towels, teapot and tea sets! Beautiful.

Does anyone follow the vintage ladybird books account on twitter (and Instagram I think)? She often posts pictures of "Beautiful everyday Ladybird things" - lovely. Well worth following!

PeskyRooks · 27/06/2020 18:21

I went into a charity shop today!! It was amazing! Just got a couple of books. An Anne Cleaved and a Tracy Chavalier. There was a cake stand I wanted but bit pricey. (But might willgo back and get it another day!)

PeskyRooks · 27/06/2020 18:24

That's Anne Cleeves and Tracy Chevalier btw!

Inspired by this, I went on the Powell Craft site and ordered a proper Victorian style nightie!👻

woodhill · 27/06/2020 19:58

Are the charity shops open now?

KetoWinnie · 27/06/2020 20:07

I always use 4.7.11, a spray.
Ever since i smelled a new Tom Ford and thought hmm I have smelt that before.

Why do smelled and smelt both look wronh to be now.

wildthingsinthenight · 27/06/2020 20:27

PrivateSpidey I've tried to find the vintage ladybird books account on Instagram and had no luck. Any ideas if it's called anything different to that?

wildthingsinthenight · 27/06/2020 20:29

I can't find on Twitter either actually!

Scruffyoak · 27/06/2020 20:37

I love floral. I'm forever searching car boots for vintage (old) kitchen things etc. I am just obsessed with peoples junk they chuck out!

I am also embracing aging. I dont think its bad at all. I'm only 33 but I have found this thread makes me realise we can imbrace it!

Scruffyoak · 27/06/2020 20:38

I am missing car boot sales. The charity shops are not open here but the shop at the tip is (where I got a really cool(?) Breadbin.

ChavvySexPond · 27/06/2020 20:46

Beautiful bedding @SpeedofaSloth I'd love that.
