Can you please help me work out what animal I just saw

In the UK driving down the narrow country roads when this animal ran/waddled across the road.

It was bigger than a cat, smaller than a badger, slower than a fox.

It kind of waddled, was quite round and had no tail.

I really can't think what kind of mammal it was.

Any ideas?

Actually Photograph is my top favourite, but Animal is the one that got me into them.

I was going to suggest a Pygmy hippo but then I saw your update. Absolutely perfect diagram of said badger.

I once came across a guinea fowl in the middle of my street. It had somehow escaped from a wildlife place a few miles away and had wandered into town on a wee jaunt. My favourite part was overhearing a neighbour talking about the "weird spotty turkey" in the street.

No, that's a clockwise haggis; left legs shorter than right is an anti-clockwise haggis. It's explained in a post of mine upthread.

One of my colleagues has informed me that a short drive away is a pancake house with a nature trail including capybara. My weekend has planned itself.

Well I must say I deeply honoured, and may I say, slightly tearful for this thread to have been nominated for classics.

There's an option to get an email (I think weekly) which links to 'Hot threads' but also features excepts from a chosen one, usually funny.

No idea where the option is, I signed up to it aeons ago!

I know its a badger now but .. I thought capybaras were only Australian
