Can you please help me work out what animal I just saw

In the UK driving down the narrow country roads when this animal ran/waddled across the road.

It was bigger than a cat, smaller than a badger, slower than a fox.

It kind of waddled, was quite round and had no tail.

I really can't think what kind of mammal it was.

Any ideas?

Actually Photograph is my top favourite, but Animal is the one that got me into them.

For the purposes of the Birdie Friend thread, another great one is Armageddon it!

PenguinsOnParade · 06/02/2020 01:53

I was going to suggest a Pygmy hippo but then I saw your update. Absolutely perfect diagram of said badger.

I once came across a guinea fowl in the middle of my street. It had somehow escaped from a wildlife place a few miles away and had wandered into town on a wee jaunt. My favourite part was overhearing a neighbour talking about the "weird spotty turkey" in the street.

thehumblepotatoes · 06/02/2020 04:01

No, that's a clockwise haggis; left legs shorter than right is an anti-clockwise haggis. It's explained in a post of mine upthread.

I bow to your superior haggis knowledge Grin

Papergirl1968 · 06/02/2020 09:12

This thread ought to go into classics! Grin

GinnyStrupac · 06/02/2020 09:15

For the diagrams alone!

AlCalavicci · 06/02/2020 09:36

thekatydids · 06/02/2020 10:07

Yes, classics please

Papergirl1968 · 06/02/2020 10:16

I’ve asked Mumsnet HQ to do it

Papergirl1968 · 06/02/2020 10:21

Ohh, have had a very prompt reply saying they'll forward it to the Classics committee for consideration!

Gribbie · 06/02/2020 10:29

One of my colleagues has informed me that a short drive away is a pancake house with a nature trail including capybara. My weekend has planned itself.

AutumnRose1 · 06/02/2020 10:33

Gribbie that sounds amazing!

yy to Classics.

ASureSign · 06/02/2020 10:42

Great thread OP. 😊

DjMomo · 06/02/2020 10:43

Old obese fox.

MmeCamenbert · 06/02/2020 10:46

Could it have been a Coypus? They waddle and are quite like beavers but without the big paddle tail?

Can you please help me work out what animal I just saw

Well I must say I deeply honoured, and may I say, slightly tearful for this thread to have been nominated for classics.

15 years on this forum from the ante thread, post natal threads, starting school thread and god I hate teenagers thread! And the together 20 years and he's having an affair, thread!!

And first time EVER been nominated.

And to be nominated in such a worthwhile topic ... an unknown, waddling mammal! I suspect that it was the outstanding diagrams, nah works of art, that did it!!

And @gribble I think you should organise a MN meet-up here!! * Pancake house with a nature trail including capybara*

Can you please help me work out what animal I just saw
AlCalavicci · 06/02/2020 22:52

@ErrolTheDragon , what is this Talk Roundup Slot you speak of , I have never heard of it

ErrolTheDragon · 06/02/2020 23:03

There's an option to get an email (I think weekly) which links to 'Hot threads' but also features excepts from a chosen one, usually funny.

No idea where the option is, I signed up to it aeons ago!

MummytoCSJH · 06/02/2020 23:12

I know its a badger now but .. I thought capybaras were only Australian Confused

AlCalavicci · 06/02/2020 23:13

Thanks , I will have a look into that

PrincessFiorimonde · 06/02/2020 23:19
