Can you please help me work out what animal I just saw

In the UK driving down the narrow country roads when this animal ran/waddled across the road.

It was bigger than a cat, smaller than a badger, slower than a fox.

It kind of waddled, was quite round and had no tail.

I really can't think what kind of mammal it was.

Any ideas?

Could it not just be a juvenile badger?

YellowJellyfish · 05/02/2020 00:22

Hmmmm away to google what a juvenile badger looks like. The colouring wasn't the same .... hold on

Muntjac deer?

DecemberSnow · 05/02/2020 00:24

Wombat?

PointlessUsername · 05/02/2020 00:25

Beever?

exexpat · 05/02/2020 00:25

Muntjac deer? They are quite small and have very short tails that might not be obvious.

DecemberSnow · 05/02/2020 00:26

That suppose to of said Wallbies
They have been spotted in the UK...

Or a baby Deer?

puds11 · 05/02/2020 00:26

Muntjac aren’t very ‘waddley’ though. Beaver would have a very obvious tail.

YellowJellyfish · 05/02/2020 00:26

No wasn't young badger, they still have the black and white face, and this def didn't.

No not Muntjac deer legs were too short and it waddled, it wasn't graceful. It walked like a hedgehog. That waddley way.

Wallabies also have obvious tail.

OldHarrysGameboy · 05/02/2020 00:27

Are you in Bodmin? If so, panther. If not, Bigfoot. If you're in Scotland, loch Ness Monster.

OldHarrysGameboy · 05/02/2020 00:28

Or if in central London, de Pfeffel.

YellowJellyfish · 05/02/2020 00:28

No def not a wallaby. In sooooo stuck as to what it was.

OP posts:
puds11 · 05/02/2020 00:29

It wouldn’t be any other mustalid I can think of as they all have obvious tails.

DecemberSnow · 05/02/2020 00:30

Pregnant rottweiler

puds11 · 05/02/2020 00:31

Injured hare?

FruityWidow · 05/02/2020 00:31

Beever or a boar?

GothMummy · 05/02/2020 00:32

Cabybara escaped from somewhere?

GeePipe · 05/02/2020 00:32

What colour was it?

exexpat · 05/02/2020 00:34

Extra-large, pregnant, tail-less cat?

YellowJellyfish · 05/02/2020 00:35

There are both beavers and boar in parts of this 'Shire but don't think it was either of them.

Did look similar shape and colour to a beaver but I would have noticed that tail. And are they nocturnal?

According to this website, there are feral capybara in the UK: "The main hotspots for Capybara in the UK are Hertfordshire, Buckinghamshire, Oxfordshire, Essex, Norfolk and Suffolk." Are you in any of those places? A capybara would certainly fit your description.

Torchlightt · 05/02/2020 00:38

Fat dog with bobbed tail.
