Can you please help me work out what animal I just saw

In the UK driving down the narrow country roads when this animal ran/waddled across the road.

It was bigger than a cat, smaller than a badger, slower than a fox.

It kind of waddled, was quite round and had no tail.

I really can't think what kind of mammal it was.

Any ideas?

Yes!! I did look like a Cabybara, but have never seen or heard of them in this area. Not in list of counties posted by PP either.

I'm almost tempted to post in my local spotted! Hahaha more interesting the foreign men in white vans, parking or dog shit!!

Maybe it's one of those capybara's

Torchlightt · 05/02/2020 00:56

Injured hare? Large rabbit with myxamatosis?

OvenGlovesWillTearUsApart · 05/02/2020 00:59

Diagram or it didn’t happen.

I hope it was a capybara. They’re so lovely!

AutumnRose1 · 05/02/2020 01:09

Ooh if you get more sightings, let us know.

wheresmymojo · 05/02/2020 01:10

We have someone near us that has a couple of rescue Capybara's (rural Hampshire).

One, I think his name is George, likes to escape from his enclosure every so often and go on the run and we have a day or two of highly amusing posts of various sightings of George Grin

wheresmymojo · 05/02/2020 01:12

I just looked it up on the last Facebook posts and I lied...it's not a Capybara called George; it's a prairie dog called Rupert!

YellowJellyfish · 05/02/2020 01:15

Ok here's my diagram. I've uploaded from App so don't think you can see it if you're on a laptop.

It's smiling in the diagram .... artistic license! ;)

@wheresmymojo GrinGrin. Almost right then!!

tabulahrasa · 05/02/2020 01:17

Capybaras are way bigger than badgers...

AutumnRose1 · 05/02/2020 01:17

Oh, that pic makes me think it’s a boar.

YellowJellyfish · 05/02/2020 01:18

@wheresmymojo

Yes I always get my prairie dogs and catsa whotchamacallits confused!!

I've posted on my local Spotted page ... but it appears everyone is asleep!

Very lifelike. (I wonder if it was George or Rupert?)

In the thumbnail it looks like a hot air capyballoon on a string.

FoamingAtTheUterus · 05/02/2020 01:19

Otter ??

wheresmymojo · 05/02/2020 01:20

I mean...that looks like half a smiling Coronavirus but that's definitely smaller than a fox Grin

Taddda · 05/02/2020 01:20

@YellowJellyfish 🤣🤣🤣

YellowJellyfish · 05/02/2020 01:21

@AutumnRose1 Is it the smile that make you think it's a Boar? ;)

wheresmymojo · 05/02/2020 01:22

Just for prairie dog v capybara comparison. This is Rupert, his friend Claymore and the third one I don't know as it must be the laziest and hasn't made any successful attempts to escape.

The meerkats are also unknown to me, I guess they aren't the escaping kind.

wheresmymojo · 05/02/2020 01:23

Pic now attached!

Taddda · 05/02/2020 01:25

Theres 'artistic license' OP, then there's ☝️! Brilliant!Smile

AutumnRose1 · 05/02/2020 01:27

Perspective is a funny thing, I think it looks bigger than a fox.

No the smile so much as the nose. But I hope it was happy with its night wanderings 😂

YellowJellyfish · 05/02/2020 01:27

Wait? What? Which one is the capybara? The one with his back to us?

OP posts:
AutumnRose1 · 05/02/2020 01:28

Also on perspective, either your car is very small or you were very calm!!!

YellowJellyfish · 05/02/2020 01:29

Hahah yes on the diagram the animal is larger than my car.

That is my car at the bottom right of the diagram in case you were wondering. It's not smiling.
