Can you please help me work out what animal I just saw

In the UK driving down the narrow country roads when this animal ran/waddled across the road.

It was bigger than a cat, smaller than a badger, slower than a fox.

It kind of waddled, was quite round and had no tail.

I really can't think what kind of mammal it was.

Any ideas?

x post Fantastic news, OP! It was your waddle that made us sure it was a badger. We see lots around here, including one visiting us at home.

mine had ears and a smiley face
and was giant, bigger than your car. You were very bwave.

ErrolTheDragon · 05/02/2020 19:49

If (if? Who are we kidding - When, obviously) you do an image search for 'albino badgers', you may find some which look like miniature polar bears.Grin

GinnyStrupac · 05/02/2020 19:54

Or an erythristic one, maybe?

AutumnRose1 · 05/02/2020 20:22

OP

I never doubted your sketch.

I just hope you can get a photo of his smile next time 😂

Winesalot · 05/02/2020 20:33

yay! what a beauty.

TiddlestheCat · 05/02/2020 20:51

A beaver (yes, they are back in the UK), a juvenile badger, a pole cat, an otter or a stoat. Or failing that, a paper bag blowing across the road.

TiddlestheCat · 05/02/2020 20:55

Oh, I see that you've just solved the conundrum! An albino badger!! Yes, that was EXACTLY what I was going to suggest next! (Who the hell knew that such a thing existed).

NarwhalsNarwhals · 05/02/2020 21:05

What colour was it? And what kind of area? (As in Fields? Woods?) Why didn't you take a photo for MN?

Crunchymum · 05/02/2020 21:11

Uncanny likeness there @YellowJellyfish

Grin

Glad you got to the bottom of it.

LonginesPrime · 05/02/2020 21:15

I wonder whose foof that is in front of the albino badger in the original photo.

Perhaps it's like the Minotaur and the badger came out of it.

YellowJellyfish · 05/02/2020 22:27

@AutumnRose1 I have ordered a dashcam and will be driving up and down the windy country lanes until I get that smiling bugger!!

Loved your poem! All these years on MN and never had a poem about me. Shame I have to change my username AGAIN as have completely outed myself, in where I live!

A PP asked its colour, it was pretty similar to the picture I uploaded, although other villagers have seen the white polar bear Badger!

Thanks re poem

I will keep this thread on watch till I see the smiling not-haggis 😂

MNHQ can help with the stray name?

Thanks for giving us such a laugh! And lots of learning!

FlibbertyGiblets · 05/02/2020 23:05

Most excellent thread, got everything; drama, intrigue, a really super-real lifelike drawing, education, a pome and a satisfying conclusion.

Happy sigh.

milliefiori · 05/02/2020 23:10

Capybara are bigger than a badger though, aren't they? Sounds like a beaver to me. Maybe you didn't notice its tail in the dusk?

milliefiori · 05/02/2020 23:12

Oh wow, just read your catch up. I so want to see an albino badger!

Papergirl1968 · 05/02/2020 23:18

Well I’ve learned of some new species tonight, thanks!
This thread amused me as much as the picture in the paper of the “dead leopard,” someone came across on a (British) road the other day.
It turned out to be a discarded onesie! Grin

Legoandloldolls · 05/02/2020 23:19

After seeing your diagram, I'm guessing a grisly bear. Just a guess from the size compared to the car 😁

AHintOfStyle · 05/02/2020 23:22

@TwoHeadedYellowBelliedHoleDig

You've been here a long time!!

thehumblepotatoes · 05/02/2020 23:25

It's only a haggis if it's right legs are shorter than it's left legs.

ErrolTheDragon · 05/02/2020 23:29

It's only a haggis if it's right legs are shorter than it's left legs.

No, that's a clockwise haggis; left legs shorter than right is an anti-clockwise haggis. It's explained in a post of mine upthread.

AutumnRose1 · 05/02/2020 23:43

Paper 😂

OvenGlovesWillTearUsApart · 06/02/2020 00:36

”dead leopard”

Isn’t that an ‘80s metal band from Sheffield? Sad to see its demise.

OvenGlovesWillTearUsApart · 06/02/2020 00:36

Their best song was “Animal” of course.

AutumnRose1 · 06/02/2020 00:45

“ Their best song was “Animal” of course”

Closely followed by “Photograph”, adding irony to...irony.
