To say no to visiting pigs for Christmas??

PigAuntie · 29/11/2019 18:02

My sister wants to buy my niece and nephew micro pigs for Christmas. They are coming to stay with us for Christmas so she wants to know if she can bring them with her!!!
AIBU to say no because

  • we don’t want pigs running around our house partly due to we have no idea (and neither does she) if They will be chewers/poo everywhere/cry all night plus they are tiny and will be at danger of being stood on
  • we have a 3 bed semi, with 9 people, Xmas tree, extra chairs etc it’s already going to be crowded enough and we don’t have the space to put a pig pen anywhere - the conversatory is already taken over by the guinea pigs cage. (C&C open type)
  • I don’t agree with animals being given as Christmas presents as Christmas is busy and chaotic and full of noise and lights and wrapping paper and choas. I believe a new pet needs to be introduced to a family in a calm and serene environment where they can get used to each other and the animal can retreat to a safe place when they need too
  • I also don’t think any animal should go an3 hour journey unless absolutely necessary or they have got used to car journeys
  • you need a permit to move pigs to another premises and I think are them not allowed to move them again for 20 days!!!
  • Christmas is my favourite time of the year and I don’t want it overshadowed by pigs!
  • we will all be drinking (as is the nature of Xmas day) so I don’t think we should be in charge of tiny piglets when no one knows exactly what they are doing with them.

On a positive note I have found out that DH is the perfect mumsnetter husband, his response was ‘fuck no, that’s all you need to say, just no, don’t need to justify it, we say no that’s it!! So I’m happy to loan him to help people with CF’s!!!

No such thing as a micro pig , they’re just piglets. Why are people so stupid
It’s like calling a puppy a micro dog 🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️
I know, as I’ve got 7 rescue pigs that people bought as micro pigs that then grew too big and they end up in rescues

adaline · 29/11/2019 18:23

This is a fully grown "micro" pig.

@AllYouGoodGoodPeople no she wants the ‘glory’ of presenting them to her kids on Christmas morning I think!

YABU to even ask this question, YANBU to say no.

I hope your sister is winding you up.

PigAuntie · 29/11/2019 18:24

@Yarboosucks no she’s definitely serious, she’s been on about pigs for ages, she’s sent me photos and the exchange with the seller

They could however be very tasty.

messolini9 · 29/11/2019 18:25

Excellent notion.

Pop 'em in the oven at 200 degrees for about 90 minutes. Two micropigs should go round 9 of you quite nicely.

messolini9 · 29/11/2019 18:26

However, my cold, dead heart starts to thaw at thought of wee, pink piglets... 😢

Aaaaaw, @Butchyrestingface. Never thought I'd see the day ...

MaisyMary77 · 29/11/2019 18:29

Dd’s friend got a couple of micro-piglets about 13 years ago. They’re now absolutely huge! (they are kunekune-which apparently, are fairly small for pigs) Gorgeous though. Very friendly, clean and astoundingly clever. But they live on a farm. So lots of space and a lovely pigsty to live in. YANBU to say no! (But, wow! They were sooooo cute!)

Ellmau · 29/11/2019 18:29

Your sister is INSANE.

In every possible way.

Petrichor11 · 29/11/2019 18:29

YABVU for even giving this one second of thought! Of course she can’t bring pigs to your home at Christmas or any other time ! Your DH is absolutely right, just say no fucking way! She’s clearly batshit crazy

britnay · 29/11/2019 18:31

er has she got a CPH number from the RPA?

TheJoxter · 29/11/2019 18:34

Get her to google ‘sammy the hammy’ and ‘Esther the wonder pig’. There’s no such thing as a micro pig!

Whatisthisfuckery · 29/11/2019 18:35

This thread is the most batshit thing I’ve read in my two years of Mumsnetting. OP your SIL is a lunatic.

runningintothesunset · 29/11/2019 18:36

If you can see the exchange with the seller then ask to see where the seller’s and her CPH and herd numbers are on the paperwork. If the seller doesn’t have any then report them to animal health

messolini9 · 29/11/2019 18:38

PigAuntie, do your homework, paying particular attention from 1 min 49 seconds. This will be your home life on xmas day.

PS your sister is a thoughtless twat who clearly knows jack shit about the duty & responsibility owed to animals. She needs a kick up the arse.

DirtyBlonde · 29/11/2019 18:39

Tell her you've already ordered ordered a turkey and there will simply br insufficient room in the oven

Eustaciavile · 29/11/2019 18:41

www.estherthewonderpig.com/
Show her this...they grow 😮

ScreamingValenta · 29/11/2019 18:45

A micro pig is for life, not just for Christmas. YANBU.

FiveGoMadInDorset · 29/11/2019 18:46

Does she know she needs a holding number for her garden, and then you need a holding number for your garden, and then you need to fill out paperwork and send it off for the trip to yours and then back again

Bunnybigears · 29/11/2019 18:46

I agree with your husband just tell her no. Pigs are not house pets they are farm animals.

OrlandoInTheWilderness · 29/11/2019 18:46

Oh god she is batshit. Poor pigs!

ScreamingValenta · 29/11/2019 18:47

It’s like calling a puppy a micro dog

Grin That made me laugh.

Armadillostoes · 29/11/2019 18:47

Your DSis is being grossly irresponsible All of the reasons why getting a puppy for Christmas is a VERY bad idea apply even more strongly to a piglet. A house full of over excited.people plus a baby animal in a strange new environment is a terrible plan. Added to which it sends children the message that animals are toys and possessions rather than living beings with needs and feelings.

I hope that your DSis is committed to giving these pigs a loving home for the rest of their natural lives, and understand what they means in terms of trh practicalities and money involved. If not, she is beneath contempt.

QueenoftheBiscuitTin · 29/11/2019 18:48

Micro pigs are as real as Santa.
All you need to say is no.
