To say no to visiting pigs for Christmas??

PigAuntie · 29/11/2019 18:02

My sister wants to buy my niece and nephew micro pigs for Christmas. They are coming to stay with us for Christmas so she wants to know if she can bring them with her!!!
AIBU to say no because

  • we don’t want pigs running around our house partly due to we have no idea (and neither does she) if They will be chewers/poo everywhere/cry all night plus they are tiny and will be at danger of being stood on
  • we have a 3 bed semi, with 9 people, Xmas tree, extra chairs etc it’s already going to be crowded enough and we don’t have the space to put a pig pen anywhere - the conversatory is already taken over by the guinea pigs cage. (C&C open type)
  • I don’t agree with animals being given as Christmas presents as Christmas is busy and chaotic and full of noise and lights and wrapping paper and choas. I believe a new pet needs to be introduced to a family in a calm and serene environment where they can get used to each other and the animal can retreat to a safe place when they need too
  • I also don’t think any animal should go an3 hour journey unless absolutely necessary or they have got used to car journeys
  • you need a permit to move pigs to another premises and I think are them not allowed to move them again for 20 days!!!
  • Christmas is my favourite time of the year and I don’t want it overshadowed by pigs!
  • we will all be drinking (as is the nature of Xmas day) so I don’t think we should be in charge of tiny piglets when no one knows exactly what they are doing with them.

On a positive note I have found out that DH is the perfect mumsnetter husband, his response was ‘fuck no, that’s all you need to say, just no, don’t need to justify it, we say no that’s it!! So I’m happy to loan him to help people with CF’s!!!

@PigAuntie any update yet!?

Mrsmummy90 · 17/12/2019 23:35

I'm the nicest way possible, your sister sounds a bit mad 🙈 I really hope you're able to talk her out of getting pigs. Taking on animals isn't something you do without proper knowledge of how to care for them. It sounds like she has no clue what she's doing.

thenightsky · 17/12/2019 23:44

Where is the OP?

PigAuntie · 18/12/2019 14:57

Hi
Sorry no real update yet, have asked the question which was ignored! i'm assuming shes not getting them. Will try and fine out...

My work mates wrapped my birthday presents up in wrapping paper of pigs wearing xmas hats!! I also found a oxfam poverty pig charity gift which im toying with giving her for christmas!

Sorry its not more exciting but real life often doesnt work like a film with a satisfactory exciting ending!

Yes yes, you must give her the charity pig gift, with a smile (& a bottle of something to ease her pain) - I hope the real ones aren't joining her, so she instead can enjoy someone else having real ones instead. That would be a good outcome.

Perhaps a pack of scratchings would be a generous addition, too??

Drizzzle · 18/12/2019 23:02

Haven't read the whole thread, but does she have a CPH number? Is she aware she will have to register the fact that she is bringing them to you! That she needs a licence to walk them? And that she has to follow the same rules as pig farmers do?

Inkstainedmags · 23/12/2019 10:51

All I want for Christmas is a pig update.

Boristhecats · 24/12/2019 11:36

Ha. Me too

BrieAndChilli · 24/12/2019 17:41

She has texted to say she’s an hour away, she did say no pigs but DH says it’s possible she might still turn up with them!! I think no but will update when she gets here

TreeTopTim · 24/12/2019 18:52

I have a feeling that the lack of response means that she got them and is bringing them. Well you can't possibly say no when they are in the car now can you. She is that batshit that she would probably try that stunt.

GrannyBags · 24/12/2019 18:56

Any pig appearances yet?!

AllYouGoodGoodPeople · 24/12/2019 19:18

Oink oink!

WitchDancer · 24/12/2019 19:28

Oh no, I bet she's going to turn up with them 🐷🐷

BrieAndChilli · 24/12/2019 20:39

So......
No pigs!! She hasn’t explained why not as kids still up and she doesn’t want them to know that pigs were a possibility. I’m assuming landlord said no.

bathorshower · 24/12/2019 20:47

Oh, that's a shame. Not for you, or the pigs obviously. But those of us enjoying this thread were looking forward to the carnage the pigs would have unleashed Xmas Grin.

BrieAndChilli · 24/12/2019 21:31

Yes it’s a bit of a rubbish end to the thread, sorry real life tends to fizzle out rather than end with a big finale!

WitchDancer · 24/12/2019 21:43

I'd call that a result!
