To say no to visiting pigs for Christmas??

PigAuntie · 29/11/2019 18:02

My sister wants to buy my niece and nephew micro pigs for Christmas. They are coming to stay with us for Christmas so she wants to know if she can bring them with her!!!
AIBU to say no because

  • we don’t want pigs running around our house partly due to we have no idea (and neither does she) if They will be chewers/poo everywhere/cry all night plus they are tiny and will be at danger of being stood on
  • we have a 3 bed semi, with 9 people, Xmas tree, extra chairs etc it’s already going to be crowded enough and we don’t have the space to put a pig pen anywhere - the conversatory is already taken over by the guinea pigs cage. (C&C open type)
  • I don’t agree with animals being given as Christmas presents as Christmas is busy and chaotic and full of noise and lights and wrapping paper and choas. I believe a new pet needs to be introduced to a family in a calm and serene environment where they can get used to each other and the animal can retreat to a safe place when they need too
  • I also don’t think any animal should go an3 hour journey unless absolutely necessary or they have got used to car journeys
  • you need a permit to move pigs to another premises and I think are them not allowed to move them again for 20 days!!!
  • Christmas is my favourite time of the year and I don’t want it overshadowed by pigs!
  • we will all be drinking (as is the nature of Xmas day) so I don’t think we should be in charge of tiny piglets when no one knows exactly what they are doing with them.

On a positive note I have found out that DH is the perfect mumsnetter husband, his response was ‘fuck no, that’s all you need to say, just no, don’t need to justify it, we say no that’s it!! So I’m happy to loan him to help people with CF’s!!!

It is a stupid present to give, unless the person wanted them

And knows how to care for them, and has an appropriate filed with wallow and shelter for them, and is prepared to FEED THEIR HUGE APPETITES for the NEXT TWENTY YEARS.

Damntheman · 02/12/2019 14:04

This thread is hilarious :o :o In a kind of horrifying way.

My BIL runs a pig farm and hoooooly pig that smell hits you like a brick wall from several meters away.

BBInSleepsCounting · 02/12/2019 15:05

I think the pigs and DSis should go and stay with the 1% who have voted YABU. Or is that DSis voting?!

Pigs are for life. Not just for Christmas. As they say.

A friend with a petting farm took in some micro pigs some years ago when they first became fashionable. The person who had foolishly bought them could not cope with them in the home environment, especially when they turned out not to be micro at all. The pigs suddenly got a field to churn up, fresh air, other pigs to socialise with, a shelter, the right food, regular access to the visiting vet, and most of all someone looking over them who understood their needs. They were lucky and got their happy ending eventually, but I doubt other pigs bought as pets do.

ForalltheSaints · 02/12/2019 15:08

The 3 hour journey was enough for me to say YANBU.

Littlemissdaredevil · 02/12/2019 15:22

Is your sister telling porkies pies?

Sorry I couldn’t help it!

Who are the 1% that have OP IBU??? It’s mad to get a pig!!!

Toooldforthissortofmalarky · 02/12/2019 15:28

This is fucking hilarious.

I'd be inviting a film crew in for the day.

You've made my day, OP.

BBInSleepsCounting · 02/12/2019 15:54

Will they be able to pull crackers at the Christmas lunch table with their little trotters?

coconutpie · 03/12/2019 19:14

Your sister is insane. Any word from the landlord yet?

PigAuntie · 03/12/2019 19:27

No sorry no need yet!! I know it makes a frustrating thread but things don’t speed along in real life! I promise I will update as soon as anything happens!!

YANBU.
Also your sister needs a licence to even walk the pigs.

tillytrotter1 · 03/12/2019 22:57

Repost on Archers Addicts, Jill or Neil would know what to do!

Lotus90 · 03/12/2019 23:00

YANBU. She sounds like such an idiot!

beingchampion · 03/12/2019 23:27

Just read the OP to my DH (which I know infuriates mn, but he''s a pig farmer). In between calling her sister a fucking mindless idiot, and a stupid twat, he's now ranting about how knobheads like her are responsible for the spread of pig disease through ignorance and twattish behaviour.

The breeder is worse as they know (or bloody should do) the restrictions and strict regulations about housing and transport, and you can't just chuck them in the car, and certainly can't travel without a movement license to registered premises.

He's now threatening to sell his 200 weaners as micropigs to all of the fucking idiots out there. Probably should've done this in the morning rather than just before bed. Angry

Unsurprisingly he thinks the OP is NBU in banning the pigs (and sister) from the house.

How annoyed is he this morning on a scale of 1-10? WinkGrin

HebeMumsnet · 04/12/2019 12:59

Afternoon, everyone. We're moving this thread over to Classics now.

PigAuntie · 04/12/2019 16:17

Ok. I’m going to text my sister now and see if there’s any news. Shock will report back when I hear (she does take 2 days to reply to a text even when I can see she is commenting on Facebook etc!!!)

We are all on tenterhooks!

Winterdaysarehere · 04/12/2019 21:24

Don't you mean meat hooks?

AnxiousandExcited · 04/12/2019 22:02

@BBInSleepsCounting, @Littlemissdaredevil ,
If you read all the previous 12 pages of this insane story, you will see that part of the plot is that someone by mistake clicked on YABU, on about page 2 or 3 I think...
Truth is Stranger than Fiction and this is my bedtime story.

MsAdorabelleDearheartVonLipwig · 04/12/2019 22:36

It made classics. Brilliant. Grin

TheHootiestOwl · 05/12/2019 12:40

This is in classics now? Excellent! Great work OP!

RebootYourEngine · 05/12/2019 15:13

Did I miss it or has your sister actually said anything about not being allowed to take the pigs?

Fingers crossed that she comes to her senses or the landlord says no

BeginningToLookLikeChristmas · 07/12/2019 19:23
