My first parking thread!

So, I'm off work on annual leave with DS. Just been out for the day and just got home to find that it's school run time. We live near a first school so obviously the streets are lined with cars. Someone has parked on my drive and someone else is blocking them in!
Now I imagine that as no one is ever here during the day, these people have been doing this for some time (we've only lived here 3 months and the house was emtpy for a year before that). I've squeezed in beside the car blocking the drive so they won't be able to get our (remember the scene from Friends with Ross's sports car?) and therefore the car on my drive can't escape either.
AIBU to just sit here with a cuppa and watch this all play out while pretending not to be in?

I'm a bit worried that this truly excellent thread will fill up overnight before OP has the chance to update after 10am (ish.... Smile) tomorrow

OP - it might be worth setting up a new thread before you and DP retire for the evening Grin

And well done you ! We ended up getting residents-only parking in our road as everyone was so sick of people leaving their cars here while they went to work/went away for the weekend/ went on holiday for 2 weeks ! which meant there was nowhere for the residents to park.
Where we live, if anyone parks across any part of your dropped kerb, the local council will issue them with a parking penalty.
The CF's only do it once, plus seeing a car with a big yellow penalty notice makes others think twice about parking in the general area.

Maybe your local council have a similar dropped kerb enforcement scheme?

I love that your DH listened for ages then just called for you and walked away. Grin

NoLongerAskedForID · 15/06/2018 23:01

Amazing. Great work OP, DH and NDN

I'm not remotely surprised they didn't apologise-the type of person who thinks it's OK to park on a driveway is also the type who never thinks of others or apologises for their actions.

Bastards. Got what they deserved Grin

BlondeB83 · 15/06/2018 23:02

Best parking thread ever!!

Otterseatpuffinsdontthey · 15/06/2018 23:05

Well done OP, OP's DH & OP's NDN.
Hope you get your (well overdue) apology tomorrow.

SteamTrainsRealAleandOpenFires · 15/06/2018 23:11

I wonder if the CFs' insurance companies would be interested about them parking on private property (without permission) & in front of dropped kerbs? Hmm

FASH84 · 15/06/2018 23:14

OP you are my hero

LexieLulu · 15/06/2018 23:15

This is the best parking thread I've read!

BetterEatCheese · 15/06/2018 23:18

Loyaultemelie · 15/06/2018 23:19

Respect!!

Tiredtomybones · 15/06/2018 23:19

Well done all involved.

TreasureInMyTummy · 15/06/2018 23:22

Fantastic, reading this in hospital and really cheered me up.

Silly question but what does CF stand for?

@kwick - thank you for introducing me to parking threads! Hope you have seen this.

NotMyFinestMoment · 15/06/2018 23:26

Your neighbour deserves a standing ovation. Just brilliant.

Austenlove · 15/06/2018 23:33

OP you're my inspiration

SneakyGremlins · 15/06/2018 23:36

@Treasure Cheeky Fucker

cherish123 · 15/06/2018 23:39

Well done OP and husband for standing your ground. I cannot believe that someone would have the brass neck to park on your drive. What's more, I can't believe the entitled way they behaved when they knocked on your door.

Notthemessiah · 15/06/2018 23:42

Much braver than me op. I'd be too worried they'd be the kind if vengeful arseholes who would come back at 3am one night next week and key my car, or similar.

Hippee · 15/06/2018 23:43

They probably read this article (which spookily popped up on my Facebook this week) and thought they were entitled www.thesun.co.uk/motors/5902531/the-bizarre-law-which-means-anyone-can-park-on-your-drive-and-it-could-end-up-costing-you-money/ - well done OP for finding a solution to this ridiculous situation!

Knittinglikemad · 15/06/2018 23:46

Congratulations OP !! Standing up to these CF’s & their neanderthal partners, they could have been polite & apologetic but no they think they are entitled..... well done to you, dh & very fast thinking ndn ( you need to show her this thread & have a good laugh over a glass of wine 🍷 lol ) Looking forward to tomorrow’s update!

IggyAce · 15/06/2018 23:51

Epic parking thread, definitely needs moving to classics.
Do not move the car is the new stop the cheque.
They are complete cf, can't believe they didn't apologize.

MsAdorabelleDearheartVonLipwig · 15/06/2018 23:51

Well I’ve just read through all that and it was AWESOME!! Op you are brilliant. And your Dh. Grin

Never seen such an unanimously YANBU!!

bunbunny · 16/06/2018 00:02

Brilliant - well done OP and Mr OP!

And make sure that when you report them to the school, on facebook pages etc, that you mention that you had no idea they wanted the car moving as nobody knocked on the door.

Then when they mention that there was a note, point out that as there was no knock to the door (or doorbell rung etc) you didn't hear a note arrive or see it as you were upstairs... I often leave junk mail on my mat rather than pick it up immediately - if I'm walking past and in the middle of doing something or carrying something etc - picking up junk mail isn't an urgent job. So perfectly reasonable to not pick it up even when you eventually did see it... whereas if only they had knocked like sensible grown ups you would have been able to deal with the matter at the time. It's their own fault for not knocking on any doors!

Sunflowersforever · 16/06/2018 00:13

Only 10 hours to go ... Wink

Giraffey1 · 16/06/2018 00:14

Brilliant thread! I’m on awa of you and your H, OP! You must report this to the school and you must get an apology from the CFs. I can’t believe they didn’t say sorry!

IShouldntPostBut · 16/06/2018 00:19

Answer the door tomorrow morning with a glass of wine in one hand. "Apologize or I drink it!"
